Valium and codeine

My sister takes Valium (7 a day) and codeine every day and has done for years. She has supposedly FND but that has never been confirmed. She’s convinced she’s had a stroke. No one has really confirmed this and feels she is losing her sight. I’m more worried that meds are causing all this. She takes Parkinson’s meds too for tremors. Could do with some advice on how to continue a relationship with her. She’s hysterical on the phone to me most days about something or other. Sees some sort of Dr regularly. Help!

FND is functional neurological disorder.

I have it. There is something wrong with the software in your brain, it varies from person to person what the symptoms are.

I have seizures, and problems walking - so often lose motor control in my feet.

It's quite a serious neurological disease.
She should be seeing a consultant and it's not usually GP led.

Painkillers are normal for this condition, I have used codeine in the past but prefer naproxen sodium now.

Her drugs sound ok.

If she's in need of more support there is a charity

Well it looks like she is being prescribed this so why is it a problem ? 35 mg diazepam a day isn't a lot

35mg a day certainly is a lot and would be extremely hard to wean off of ( not to mention becoming ineffective after a while due to habituation).

We lived in a small town.
Out by the River, there used to be a mental hospital.
My friend’s mum stayed there for a period of time, and afterwards, she told me how she carefully sewed all her Valium into the hem of her bathrobe because she “simply couldn’t function without it.”
