We do recover

There's been a few threads lately about people struggling with someone in addiction and a lot of negative experiences posted about it. I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we could share positive recovery stories because there is hope and we can recover! Definitely in early recovery I needed to read/hear that there was a way out and it wasn't the end of everything.

I'll start....

I spent 10yrs in active addiction and it destroyed my life and significantly impacted the lives of those around me. I'll be the 1st to admit I left a trail of carnage wherever I went. I hit my bottom and from that point made more serious attempts at getting clean. I now have a really good life and a professional career. I have a wonderful family and have been able to rebuild some of the relationships I ruined through my addiction. I'm able to support family and friends and be present for them when they need me. I've learnt to be able to manage my emotions in a healthy way and understand that an emotion never killed anyone and whatever im feeling will pass. I dont have to run and hide from me. A bad day in recovery is still so much better than a good day in addiction.

I guess to anyone who is struggling or feeling hopeless I just want to say it is possible if you want it.
