Sugar

It’s embarrassing and ridiculous, but I am addicted to sugar. Had a massive binge yesterday, ate 100g of sweets, massive slice of cake, a pack of cookies and a scone with jam and cream. Now getting night sweats and massive energy slumps. I’ve been addicted to alcohol in the past, and the feeling of cravings is similar. The buck stops here. Please help support me and join me if you wish. This is day one on my sugar free journey.

Well done @Lazyi for avoiding a full-blown binge.

I'm still avoiding the worst sources of sugar, and having very small amounts on crackers, crispbread, and similar.

Today I went a bit off-piste with breakfast and had a poor choice if carb. Didn't stick with my sourdough bread. Then had a large twix for elevenses. Stayed away from sugar the rest of the day, but noticed a sharp drop in my patience and wanted to sleep in the afternoon. Also my hearing was a bit muffled.

There's plenty of good homemade meals in the freezer to keep me on the wagon into next week.

Had trouble with gallstones this weekend. Surfaced again this afternoon. Don't know whether it was caused by Saturday's cider, but it won't hurt to add that to the avoid list.

Tesco delivery tomorrow. Must resist last-minute temptation to add sweet treats to the order.

I cracked tonight and had a pack of Tony Chocoloney mini eggs. I haven't been feeling well since Sat and although I'm improving now, I feel sorry for myself so ate a (supermarket) veggie pizza and mini eggs tonight. No protein in sight. No gym. Quite a lot of self-loathing. Have promised myself I will start being healthy again tomorrow.

fivetriangulartrees · 13/02/2023 21:58

Day 9 done (more or less). I've been feeling rotten today, been coughing for months but today was worse and I'd had no sleep. I still resisted the junk sugar all day, but this evening I had some nice hot custard and I don't regret it at all.

Kids birthday party tomorrow and I am making the cake tonight. In the old days I would eat a large amount of icing, batter and sweets tonight while preparing for the party, and then tomorrow while the party is in progress. Help please on how to prepare!!!!!

So tonight I've eaten a chocolate brownie plus a small bag of Galaxy Enchanted Eggs and now I have quite the sugar rush. Fuck it. I've had a horrendous week so far. At 10.30am yesterday morning I was crying in the Ladies at work. I'm just doing whatever it takes to get through this week with some tiny remnant of sanity left and if that means using sugar as a crutch, it's a necessary evil for me right now.

FatLadyTriesAgain · 16/02/2023 11:17

Small change to my username.

Needed to change a tenner this morning. I went to the corner shop. It would have been easy to buy a bag of fruit or veg, except that it didn't even cross my mind until now to do so. I made a beeline for some biscuits and a bag of mini-eggs.

At least I've got the change I needed, and can go back to avoiding the street the shop is in, but what a stupid thing to do. I feel lethargic and shivery. Very thirsty and have a cough.

I've been doing quite well up till now. Able to deal patiently with teen drama yesterday evening. I'm determined not to repeat this.

fivetriangulartrees · 16/02/2023 22:12

I've been off sick from work and feeling rubbish, so I thought I'd give myself a break from resisting the sugar cravings. Had some sugary things. Realised they didn't actually make me feel any better, so I might as well go back to not eating them. Except custard. Custard is comforting. But I don't think it's going to be dangerously addictive because it involves so much stirring and washing up.

Lazyi · 17/02/2023 05:43

@fivetriangulartrees , sorry you have been off work, but that did make me chuckle!

@HundredMilesAnHour .. I’m really sorry you are having a tough time if it. Thinking of you!

@FatLadyTriesAgain … good on you. Stuff I have been reading says you need to treat willpower like a muscle and the more you use it, the stronger it gets, so awesome job at going into battle with a team sugar free.
and well done me. I lasted the birthday party despite the amount of chocolate ganache and party rings on offer! Go us

Op sorry if I've missed this, have you had your HBA1c checked at the gp?
Highly recommend requesting it if you were getting the symptoms you describe.

fivetriangulartrees · 17/02/2023 10:22

@Lazyi Kudos to you. Party rings are my downfall.

Lazyi · 18/02/2023 13:44

Hi @catfunk … I need to get my bloods done because I have low iron… do you think this will be included? Otherwise should I ask for something specific? Don’t want to bother the GP if I am now feeling much better.. any thoughts?
