To think this is cocaine causing this?

I use cocaine recreationally about once every 3 months, often less. I have PCOS and go months without periods but the last three times I have used cocaine, my period starts the next day after. Very painful and very heavy.

Have googled it but no clear answers. Cocaine does effect your menstrual cycle but on Google it is saying that happens when used regularly. My usage is not regular. Could it be the cocaine causing my period to start or just coincidental?

Speaking as a former user (albeit an addict, not recreational) and someone with a gynae issue that causes menstrual problems similar to yours. If you drink more heavily than usual on the nights that you use coke (as often happens) then it's more likely to be that. Esoecially if you also binge eat on the comedown. Booze and coke both cause inflammation but booze especially and that can trigger things in your system. So yes, probably linked, although you shoudn't discount the possibility that it is coincidental and that you're just happening to take more note of it on these occasions.

Do you use the cocaine for a specific reason e.g. a social event

I'm wondering if your hormone levels are making you crave cocaine at the point before you come on your period, rather than the other way round iyswim

Maybe knock off the coke

newnamethanks · 20/06/2022 13:18

I'm assuming you're not using medical grade pharmaceutical cocaine but rather the stuff knocked up in grotty drums in S America, then cut with something else and resold through every dealer until it reaches your body. Who knows wtf is in it and how it affects you?

MiniTheMinx · 20/06/2022 13:22

I understand Cocaine can cause bleeds on the brain. So assuming it can cause bleeding, it may well cause any sort of bleeding.

Iflyaway · 20/06/2022 17:24

As a pp said, you don't know what the fuck else it's cut with, so apart from the coke itself you basically have no idea what you are putting into your body.

I took it a few times many years ago but the thought of that put me right off it.

I had acupuncture around that time for a medical thing and next time I was offered a line I declined cos all I saw in my mind's eye was a line of salt, and chemicals.

Not cocaine related, but i understand PCOS. I had a panel of blood tests before endo surgery that found my Prolactin was very high. Had an MRI which found a prolactinoma. After i started treatment for that it sorted out my periods. The prolatinoma was causing pcos. Before my periods were all over the place for 20 years. Now they are regular and the pain caused by pcos is minimal. Just a thought! Maybe worth researching to see if you have any of the symptoms. Made me realise that women are so overlooked and are just told to live with it when sometimes depending on the individuals situation there could be something that can be done. I speak from someone who at the age of 37 who thought they were 100% infertile is now 6 weeks pregnant, but thats another story!
With regards Coke, i have used it recreationally, in the past it would actually stop my period immediately, never understood why. I guess at the end of the day you never know what you are putting in your body.

Maybe ditch the coke, it's not rocket science 🙄

Oh dear how ignorant you are. Coming on to an addiction support thread and spouting nonsense. If only it were that easy - surely you know people struggle to give up an addiction, it's not rocket science. Idiot - get an education. You've truly embarrassed yourself

the OP stated they were a recreational user and not an addict albeit sometimes people can misjudge themselves

It’s an expensive drug, it sounds like if it’s 400 quid a month she’s just going for it at a weekend?

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 28/01/2024 05:55

Street prices are normally £40-50 for a bag (half a gram)
most dealers do a 3 bags for £100

thats based on what people tell me (I work with teenagers and talk about substance abuse with them)
