Shopping addiction

So I have a shopping addiction. Have had it for many years and yes it’s interferes with my life and I’ve been in debt but I’ve also succeeded eg in buying a property etc.

I tried therapy last year for it but I know why I do it (to create an image, to buy love from family members etc) and don’t need/want to go into reasons why as I know why I do it. I haven’t always done it either in fact have been polar opposite up until 25 when I inherited money and got a credit card.

I do well with CBT etc.

So what would help me beat this addiction?

Do I have an addictive personality? I used to use ecstasy and coke recreationally and regularly in my mid to late 20s and I like a drink but it’s more socially.

Instead of thinking about why you do it and understanding how it’s happened, focus on getting out of the cycle of it and looking more long term. Whether you have an addictive personality or not doesn’t change things. I would go back to therapy or set up a support group. (Which I would join as I have exactly the same problem!)

Yes, what would it take to break the cycle? you're obviously capable of not-spending so what would help get back into the mindset? is there anything that would make it harder to spend (cutting up credit cards etc), or figuring out when you're vulnerable to shopping and planning ahead?

I tend to shop when I am tired/run down/depressed.
Knit wear is my downfall. Am dleting all sales apps immediately and really trying to stay in control of my spending.
