Hi folks.

I'm currently at the starting point of weaning myself off of painkillers used long term.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how life improved for them post addiction.

Would love to hear positive success stories.

Thanks for reading :)

Hi, well done for taking the step, it isn’t easy.
I’m currently at about 4 months in from when I stopped using Zapain. Was on 8 a day, for most days, pretty much for 21 years.
Prescription was 240 per month, some months I got through all of them, others less.
There are still days I want them and their familiar calming warm feeling, but was sick of being tied to them, and suffering usual side-effects.
Every once in a while, I’d pop a few extra in a day to take 5he edge off, this had my alarm bells ringing.
Now though, I’m over the biggest hurdle, most days don’t even give them a thought.
So it is possible, you’ll probably feel better long term, but it will be very easy to go back to them, so stay strong, and do what you’ve started here, and talk about it.

No experience to that addiction but I gave up smoking after smoking for 45 years until I reached 50 a day. Each addiction has it's own problems but life is much easier without them

I found myself relapsing on and off for a while before I fully broke free. Life is great now and I have much support in place and other coping methods which are much healthier (and work better!)

Have you got any professional support in place whilst you wean off?
