oh florentyna dawn!!
those outfits are hideous!

IngridFletcher · 08/07/2010 16:20

My MIL buys most of her clothes from these type of emporiums. Well, thats not quite true. She hardly ever buys clothes but then she will go to one of these places every few years when she has an event coming up and stock up. I must admit she scrubs up well and some of the outfits they put together for her are lovely(if very matchy matchy). She is a large lady and they do know how to dress her to make her look her best.

However, she once told me how much one outfit cost and I had to have a sit down with a cup of sweet tea.

Jazzicatz · 08/07/2010 16:31

MrsBadger you must live in the same town as me? I think First Editions is far worse!

BrittanyBeers · 08/07/2010 16:37

yy, many here.
Annabel's; (£££, many frills etc, cruisewear.)
Moonaz; (yellow film on window)
Butterflies; (like a younger Annabel's. Small felt wooden-framed handbags with chuffing great corsages)
Magnum;(for fat chicks)
Mad Max;not bad actually.

saythatagain · 08/07/2010 16:47

We have:
Estelle (crinkly)
Dorotheas (actually ok)
Bella Domina (froth - think gypsey/romany)
Wots On (yes, that right) - frightening
...I could go on

stressheaderic · 08/07/2010 17:07

Rosalind is in a fairly affluent suburb of Merseyside. I know not if Rosalind herself is the proprietor or it was just a catchy name.
Nearly every other shop on this high street has changed hands in the last 20 years but Rosalind laughs in the face of the recession and continues to peddle overpriced floral box-pleated skirts to its non-existent customers.

CaptainWinky · 08/07/2010 17:10

There is one called 'Florentyna Dawne' near where i grew up. As school children we used to amuse ourselves by playing a game called 'spot the FD outfit'

WarrenPeace · 08/07/2010 17:11

lol at MOONAZ

what does that mean

CaptainWinky · 08/07/2010 17:13

OMG I see I am not the only MNer to have been enticed by the charms of FD!

jazzicatz we are in different towns - it seems there are four Mary Brooks in Oxon so they must be making money somehow

still, I have never seen anyone in ours...

JackieNo · 08/07/2010 17:38

I used to live near this one - 'Matching hats and handbags always in stock' !

tvaerialmagpiebin · 08/07/2010 17:42

Love this thread.

This one is near where I used to live.
Love that it advertises "cruisewear"...
and the mannequins are High Class Transvestite grade.

NotAtAllConvinced · 08/07/2010 17:58

BrittanyBeers I know exactly where you live! Look out for a red Bugaboo during August.

Mad Max is fab.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 08/07/2010 18:25

oh I can't tell you how awful Ruby Tuesday in Monmouth is

A mix of radley bags, horrid cardis, yes cruisewear, clanking jewellery (cheap looking but very spenny) and a vile coffee shop. snooty staff too

my mum loves it for some reason

MayorNaze · 08/07/2010 18:57

does anyone live in swanage? there is a corker by the station and i can't for the life of me remember what its called...

it is in 2 halves, the other half is for men and sells lots of tweedy jackets with patches on and loafers

PlumSykes · 08/07/2010 19:42

The one nearest to me-but there are many here-is called Poppers. Which always makes me shriek with laughter.

domesticsluttery · 08/07/2010 20:22

We have one called Cardigan House, which is hardly the most inspiring of names (I assume they mean the place rather than the item of clothing).

shandyleer · 08/07/2010 21:19

MrsSchadenfreude - I once nearly went into Gladys Falloon but I chickened out - I could feel the staff sending me "you do not belong in here" vibes. Sadly, Gladys is no more (the shop that is, no idea about Gladys herself).

ChallengingCitrusHalibut · 08/07/2010 22:01

I don't know if boutique is the right description for it but there's a clothes shop round the corner from us called, I kid you not, "Lookin' Trendy".

Obviously it's an ironic name.

ChateauRouge · 08/07/2010 22:23

tiredemma- I think we must be fairly close... my elderly colleague suggested I look in that shop for my wedding outfit when I was planning my wedding

rofl at cardigan house!

ILoveDolly · 08/07/2010 22:36

Britanny Beers and Notatallconvinced I am pretty sure I know where YOU live.............. wow who'd have thought it.
It was moonaz that gave it away!!

BrittanyBeers · 08/07/2010 22:51

Dolly & Notatall!
Who'd have thunk it!

I've recently left BW, but I'm only 5 miles down the road.

Notatall, look out for me eyeing up the penguins in the Co-Op and buying nice ham from Andy!

marialuisa · 08/07/2010 23:45

Ruby Tuesday....spent many miserable hours there as a child Boys. I have to buy my mother's birthday present there every year. If i'm really lucky we have to go to the one in Ross too.

ellaballoo · 09/07/2010 11:02

I think Florentyna Dawn deserves a special award!
