how long is the dress? is it knee length?

ifso yes

if full to the floor no.

personally if i saw someone wearing that at a wedding i'd think, hmmm

but everyone seems to like it

StarOfValkyrie · 20/06/2010 14:35

I'm a short arse so it probably is a bit long on me.

I have dark skin so it won't wash me out, but I do have some concern about the comment about the eye being drawn to red in the wedding photos. I wouldn't want that.

TBH I'm a bit of a tricky one. I don't like attention in public, but my figure is such that UNLESS I wear something like that I'll be totally ashamed of my body and hide in the corner all day with a big wrap on. I'm very very curvy as well as a large size and most clothes available cling far to tightly to my bust and hips and squash me and then sag all puffy around my waist creating an unfortunate look.

I suppose I could go for a different colour as sleepless suggested, although I don't like dots or patterns much. It isn't so much that I want to look great, more that I don't want to look awful I suppose.

Love it but red is rather dramatic and will definitely stand out in the wedding photos.

carriedababi · 20/06/2010 14:51

the shape is sort of bridal.

alot of wedding dresses with that overall shape.

ItalyLovingMummy · 20/06/2010 14:52

With your dark skin I bet the lemon yellow one on that website would look lovely - or what about a sky blue one? I know exactly what you mean about dressing for such events though, I am short with a big bust and hips, but a tiny waist and nothing fits me properly. I ended up wearing a wrap dress to my brother's wedding last year and hated every minute of it and tried to run away when it came to the photos!

purepurple · 20/06/2010 14:56

I love that dress. I wouldn't care if you wore it to my wedding.

ladysybil · 20/06/2010 14:59

isnt the entire point to upstage the bride?

its a gorgous dress. wear it.

StarOfValkyrie · 20/06/2010 15:15

No yellow doesn't go with my dark hair. It makes my skin all yellowy, - but perhaps I'll go for my second best (such a shame as it's a once in a lifetime purchase though)

this one?

Bride going ape.

FakePlasticTrees · 20/06/2010 15:28

oh wow - I much prefer the green one, that is fantastic!!! (might have to get it myself...)

And I think red is tradionally a colour you shouldn't wear to a weddding (groom's mistress colour) so unless you know the bride's family aren't traditional, you could get eyebrow's raised.

BabsH · 20/06/2010 15:39

Hey there,

I am getting married in July and have a second dress for the evening (why not, only going to get married once I hope!), by dollydagger, so if the bride can do it why not the guests?

So long as you love it, have a great time wearing it, if you dont have the petticoat underneath it won't be quite so "look at me"!!

The green one is lovely too, nicer than the other one IMO.

Here's my dress at Dollydagger, they were lovely and helpful and v quick with delivery too

StarOfValkyrie · 20/06/2010 16:35

Oooh babs That dress is gorgeous!
Hmmm, now I'm getting confused!

edam · 20/06/2010 16:36

Green one is gorgeous. Although you'll have to check the bride isn't superstitious. (No-one said being a guest was easy - traditionally green is bad luck at weddings as it draws the attention of fairies who can get up to mischief.)

MmeLindt · 20/06/2010 16:50

The Spiderweb dress is not really appropriate for a wedding guest, imo. I would not have been upset about a guest wearing one like that at my wedding, but I would have wondered why she was wearing an evening/halloween dress.

This is not quite as much of an eyecatcher, but more suitable for a summer wedding. Or in the darker colour if it would look better with your colouring.

purepurple · 20/06/2010 16:51

Green dress is fab.
But I am wondering what colours are left if you can't wear
white
black
red
black
green

HurleySatOnMe · 20/06/2010 17:04

I think if you are a larger size then satin might not be the best choice either. It will crease horribly and can look shiny and cheap, and will look awful on any hint of a belly. Do they do cotton ones?

thumbwitch · 20/06/2010 17:08

I love that dress! I think I wouldn't have minded if one of my friends had worn it to my wedding - would have been more pissed off if it was in white or cream, tbh!

thumbwitch · 20/06/2010 17:11

The navy one with gold stars on is nice too but might not suit your colouring so well - wouldn't stand out as much though.

thumbwitch · 20/06/2010 17:13

cotton print ones are nice too

ItalyLovingMummy · 20/06/2010 17:15

That green dress is lush!

sleeplessinsouthwark · 20/06/2010 18:18

I really like that green dress - far prefer it to the red one esp. given your description of yourself. You will look gorgeous in it but not in an upstagy way!

iCooed · 20/06/2010 18:19

i hate all of them
like fancy dress

activate · 20/06/2010 18:43

are you 6?

flibbertigibbert · 20/06/2010 18:57

The green dress is lovely and far more appropriate I think. The red dress is more suited to a winter wedding, and the spiderwebs are a bit Halloween-esque

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 20/06/2010 19:03

I personally think it is a fab EVENING dress, but not suitable for a wedding, esp if in a church (but this is my opionion only and I am quite old and traditional and catholic - as in covered shoulders in church!!!!)
