I think it is a beautiful dress, but a bit too "look at me" for someone elses wedding? Also, it is all very well to email bride and ask her, but she may not feel comfortable asking you not to wear it, especially if you and she don't know each other that well (unless she is a bridezilla in which case no prob)

brimfull · 20/06/2010 00:30

wear what you like

am I the only one who doesn't like those style of dresses at all

Ronaldinhio · 20/06/2010 00:34

if you like it, wear it

the bride won't register what you are wearing unless it is a long white dress

t'would look crappola on me and so I am very jealous

MilkNoSugarPlease · 20/06/2010 00:38

BUY IT!

Those dresses are loovely! I often go to the shop to peruse

topsi · 20/06/2010 08:13

WOW the dress is FAB. I will depend on the bride though, why don't you order it and try it on then I think you will get a feel for the whole thing. I have book marked the site, I love their pencil dresses.

piratecat · 20/06/2010 08:23

depends on the wedding too.

I am all for expressing yourself and wearing what you like, but I think it's too much. Not into the spiderweb thing.

dinkystinky · 20/06/2010 08:37

It is a superglam dress and a very attention getting colour - I think its lovely but not really wedding guest outfit material (as you'll stand out almost as much as the bride, if not more, unless its an evening wedding and everyone is going to be dressing to the nines like that).

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/06/2010 08:43

Unless the bride is wearing red with black spiderwebs also I would say you were ok to wear it!
What's wrong with looking good at someone elses wedding??
As someone else said the only way it would be stealing thunder is if you wore a long white dress.

Just13moreyearstogo · 20/06/2010 08:49

If you don't know the bride well and you're not looking to have her as your new best friend it doesn't really matter. A wedding is a chance to splash out and wear something wonderful. I didn't notice what anyone was wearing on my wedding day until I looked at the photos later.

don't stand near a naked flame

Lequeen-you do realise I HAVE to see your dress now, don't you?

QualityTime · 20/06/2010 09:43

I think it's fab, I never got all this 'bride getting corss about others dress' until my (very small) wedding and my sister rocked up in a dress the exact colour and similar style that mine was (was not proper wedding dress). Which she knew. And had purposely chosen so we would match

So as long as she isn't getting married in a red and black dress I reckon you are safe.
Check bridesmaids colours though....

Gracie123 · 20/06/2010 09:49

Unless it's an evening wedding with a black tie dress code I think you massively run the risk of looking over dressed and out of place.

I don't think the bride would care, as it's not white or anything, she might just think you are a little odd.

Personally I'd go for one of the ones sleepless linked to. They are much more summer wedding wear.

BrittanyBeers · 20/06/2010 10:00

You are an adult ffs, you don't need permission to get dressed.

The bride is inviting people to her wedding, not accessories.

Flighttattendant · 20/06/2010 10:19

I don't really like it anyway but it is very showoffy and will likely get all the attention.

Sorry!

HurleySatOnMe · 20/06/2010 10:21

It's a very eveningy dress, and it will wash you out unless you are v exotic looking. I wouldn't mind if someone wore it to my wedding, I would just wonder if they had got dressed in the dark . I would go for the same style if you liek it, but more of the summery, daytime designs linked to further down. Polka dots, an updo and a flower in your hair would be fabulous.

traceybath · 20/06/2010 10:22

Quick hijack - Flight - are you ready for the toast sale?

Flighttattendant · 20/06/2010 10:41

Tracey! I was wondering when that was...any idea?

Actually there's not an awful lot I like this season, though their archive stuff is always thrilling.

traceybath · 20/06/2010 12:01

Flight - I had the print catalogue for the sale arrive on friday - will double check but think it starts online on tuesday.

ShowOfHands · 20/06/2010 12:17

I like it an awful lot.

I wouldn't have cared if somebody had turned up in a meringue with her dh in a morning suit and her children in bridesmaids dresses. I'd think her weird and socially unaware but I wouldn't have been bothered at all.

ItalyLovingMummy · 20/06/2010 12:30

I would think it was fab if one of my friends had worn that to my wedding. I would rather someone made an effort in a lovely dress than someone wearing some tarty short thing, which one of my friends did! Actually to be fair I had far too much to think about on the day so didn't really mind too much, but other friends didn't think much of her (especially our Italian mates who thought she was a brazen hussy!).

Flighttattendant · 20/06/2010 13:00

Thanks Tracey
