I can remember my mum buying me a batwinged grey boiler suit with yellow decorative piping.

errr, whoops, am wearing black linen skirt with bright pink top with orange trim. dd had similarly coloured shorts on earlier . is that a no-no then?

Nightynight · 11/08/2005 19:53

motherinferior, were you at school in Oxford?

TwinSetAndPearls · 11/08/2005 20:12

I never do black and a colour, but coming from someone who wore a batwinger boiler suit I am not sure if I shoud be offering advice.

motherinferior · 11/08/2005 20:16

nope, just the university. Sadly, I fear several MNers will remember me in all my multi-badged garb from then

MI, which college? mine was univ, also early 80's.

fashion highlights from that time and place included "sun in" in my (naturally) dark hair - it went orange - and wearing old mens' style pyjamas out in the street as clothes. thought was clever at time, now just cringe.

having no ability to dress self sensibly, T&S bless them, are my gurus. am about to dye most of my entire wardrobe on basis that its the wrong colour for my "type" and that, inevitably, i have been wearing a LOT of black with colour....... will find out if what you wear can really change your life. mind you, am also pregnant with twins and look like a beach ball do don't hold out much hope.

i have only seen T+Susannah once and on that basis wade in here with my big fat (bare) feet and almost complete lack of interest in what clothes i wear...

I saw the "what not to wear on holiday" episode where they took the enormously broad shouldered woman who dressed and looked absolutely like a dyke. I pegged her down as 100% hopeless but the transformation was amazing, she was beautiful when they were done with her. That earnt my respect.

But what Trinny & Sussanh themselves wear is hideous!!! i can't believe the impracticality & sheer ugliness of some of what they choose for themselves. Def. take with a pinch of salt.

motherinferior · 12/08/2005 21:01

Jesus.

The college, that is.

I remember those pyjamas...

Ha ha at these past fashion crimes! I wear a black suit to work every day with a white t shirt type top underneath, is that not on then according to T&S? What am I supposed to wear? Black would look funereal although I've just realised I'm wearing a black skirt and black top today.

I used to wear 4" heeled cowboy boots, under which were legwarmers pulled up to mid thigh and held in place with a suspender belt worn outside my incredibly tight jeans, ewww! I was a waif then mind you. I also wore lots and lots of black eyeliner like wossername, that fashion editor who wrote racy novels, who is she? It'll come to me. God, I must have looked terrible.

A colleague of mine went on Trinny and Susannah, and the change was amazing - on the tv that is. She doesn't look any different now. She was amazingly scathing about the 'dress/trouser combo!'

no! On the programme she did all the 'I have so much more confidence now' but actually looks no different whatsoever!
