What grooming do you generally not give a rat's arse about

I am pretty well turned out - make up every day, well dressed (albeit conservatively for work), polishes shoes, hair washed and styled every day, eyebrows plucked etc.

But I never, ever paint my nails. I buff them and file them, but never paint them. Or my toes.

I also never wear earrings, although I wear a necklace every day.

And I only ever wear matching underwear the day it comes home from the shop. the rest of the time it is what is clean and comes out of teh drawer first.

I don't think I'm high maintenance, though I have just ended things with my bf of 5 years because he doesn't get my liking for looking nice.
I'm gutted, but will buy a new nail varnish and pretend it doesn't matter.

That's what I do.

FellatioNelson · 07/06/2010 17:56

Muggg - send him to live with me for a bit, that'll cure him.

Pluto · 07/06/2010 18:07

Hair gets coloured every 12 weeks, wash and blw dry every day.

Legs waxed every 4 - 6 weeks

Facial hair plucked regularly

Undies rarely match

Eyebrows never done. I wouldn't know where to start but wouldn't mind finding out what's involved.

Make for going out. Just lipstick and perfume for work.

I try to moisturise legs, hands and face every day.

Nails and feet get no attention but I want to work on that.

I have just turned 40 and I think I'll be paying more attention to grooming over the next decade.

expatinscotland · 07/06/2010 18:11

self-tanning lotion.

i can't be bothered.

FellatioNelson · 07/06/2010 18:13

I may have an poorly tended fanjo but I have very immaculate eyebrows and toenails. I do paint those, because it doesn't chip down there for some reason.

The secret is to do them slowly. Base coat, then wait at least 3 hours for the first coat of colour. Then do second coat of colour next day, wait at least three hours and do top coat. It sounds faffy, but it never smudges, and lasts weeks.

FellatioNelson · 07/06/2010 18:20

Forgot the tanning. Don't do that either. I'm working the pale and interesting look.

cyb · 07/06/2010 18:25

LOVE your name

who were you

FellatioNelson · 07/06/2010 18:28

I'd love to tell you but I have to kill you. The answer can be found on a thread about the political fallout from MamaG's cake induced swearing frenzy.

cyb · 07/06/2010 18:29

oh I hid that it was boring

ThingOne · 07/06/2010 18:33

Never match undies, although I make sure I'm wearing the right ones for whatever I'm wearing.

Clearly need FN's tips for painting nails as mine chip within seconds. And then I just leave them. I saw a three year old with better toe nail varnish than me yesterday.

I pay most attention to my hair and my skin.

AlaskaNebraska · 07/06/2010 18:42

erggh goml at least do your toes

cyb · 07/06/2010 18:46

I am lax about armpit grooming and shin hairs if I am wearing longer garments

and I never wash my fanny

yama · 07/06/2010 18:51

I don't wear deodorant.

I haven't seen my bikini line in months let alone keep it kempt (am pregnant).

No nail polish on fingers.

Everything else I do. I think.

MlleB · 07/06/2010 18:54

Pre-baby:

  • shower, blow dry, hot rollers everyday
  • laser hair removal every 2 months
  • full make up everyday (but made it look "natural")
  • facial every month
  • killer heels M-F
  • eyebrow tint every month
the list goes on...

Now:
I'm "done up" if I put my contact lenses in, hurry on some mascara and don't have my hair in a ponytail.

And DH thinks I look better. I assure you, I don't.

notquitenormal · 07/06/2010 19:12

I rarely shave my legs. Once a month maybe? I go bare legged all the time, but am very blond and the hairs are usually brushable before they're visible. My bikini line says within the bikini on it's own.

I keep my nails clean and they're generally long, but I don't file or polish them. Every so often I trim them to the same length but that's it really. Have never painted my toenails.

The only make up I wear is tinted moisturiser and a bit of powder to take the worst of the shine off.

I do shower, wash my hair and blow dry every day. I wax my chin and lightly pluck my brows once a week.

orienteerer · 07/06/2010 19:21

Nails
Earrings
Bikini line (& associated area), except when swimming/holiday.
Make-up
Eyebrows (except grey ones & stray ones!)
Matching underwear
...and much more....

MummyTo2MonkeysAnd1Bug · 07/06/2010 19:22

I shower twice daily.

I wash, dry and straighten/style my hair daily
underwear never matches - its clean - who cares??

Moisturiser all over from head to toe twice daily.

Exfoliate, shave and fake tan every other day.

Make up - foundation, concealer, bronzer eyebrow pencil, mascara and lipstick everyday.

Toenails and fingernails always painted - colour depends on outfit/mood.

Eyelash tint, hair tinted and slices weaved 6 weekly, (or more often if a new colour collection comes into work...) haircuts are free for me so whenever i fancy one!!

Outfits alkways decided the night before... purely to satisfy the crazy organized voice in my head but also so i can ensure its ironed!!

Oh crap dh is right i am high maintenance.!

orienteerer · 07/06/2010 19:24

Should add I DON'T do the things I listed (to avoid confusion).

Bobbalina · 07/06/2010 19:27

I have high standards on hair, natural look make up, clothes, accessories, feet and toe nails

I don't bother much with exfoliation, eye brow plucking or finger nails.

I diligently remove hair when clothes reveal legs / armpits/ bikini line but go for weeks not bothering in the winter.

I don't floss my teeth every single day although I really should.

Can't be arsed at all with fake tan or hair dye.

dylsmum1998 · 07/06/2010 19:39

hmm I'm quite lazy looking at this,
i do shave armpits/legs when on show
bikini line if swimming/going for smear
eyebrows when i can be bothered
I blow dry and straaighten my hair maybe once a week, it is washed most days
i do shower daily
i never dye my hair (when I begin to go grey this may change)
I haven't had my hair cut in about 6 months, maybe more
Toenails painted if on show
Fingernails painted for nights out.
Very rarely wear makeup
I do moisturise daily and use hand cream- very dry skin so needs doing
I don't use fake tan- if you don't like my milk white legs- don't look

Lynli · 07/06/2010 19:41

My DD and I had a conversation about this She always well groomed and fully accessorised. Untidy house. Me immaculate home but I look like the cleaner. Oh well can't have everything.

ruffletheanimal · 07/06/2010 19:43

i can rarely be arsed with make up, jewellery, nails, etc.

i try not to look too much of a scrag with my clothes, sometimes more successfully thaan others, and i find if i keep a low level of tan (garnier face spray) then i can get away without makeup most of the time.
i still have to do my hair, but the bare minimum goes into it. i wash it most days and then dry it and maybe squirt something at it, but i only ever take about 5 minutes to do it.

if im going out of an evening i make more effort, but i still rarely take more than half an hour to get ready. im quick about it !

EightiesChick · 07/06/2010 19:53

I'd categorise myself as low maintenance.
Don't dos

Gave up earrings years ago cos couldn?t be arsed
Always leave hair to dry on its own
Don?t do fake tan ? just looks wrong on me and I prefer looking pale anyway
Don?t shave legs/underarms that often, esp not in winter
Eyebrows are untouched
Bikini line likewise

Do dos
nails, both hands and feet, and moisturise face and hands regularly.
Wash and condition hair every day too ? at least now I am back at work. My alternative which was my saviour during mat leave was dry shampoo. The point is I do something with it every day to remove/disguise grease. No other products though.
Don?t do makeup as standard daily wear, but I will use it for some nights out and for important other events. It?s often done in the taxi on the way out, though.
Perfume every day unless I forget

halia · 07/06/2010 20:07

shower every day + wash hair
hair gets combed or finger combed when wet and then a bit of wax when dry but its very short so not a major hassle. Have my hair cut and coloured or colour it at home around 6-8 weeks.
NEVER blow dry!

eyebrows plucked about once a month cos they get awful and I like my eyes, think they are my best feature except for the shadows and bags!
eye cream - religously
nearly always wear mascara, usually wear a tinted foundation/ primer or a dab of concealor unless its a stopping at home day.
nails get black nail polish until its chipped or I have a 'suit' day when they are depolished and cleaned, nails cut very short once a week (guitar player)

usually take makeup off with toner becuase I suffer from that curse of mid thirties, wrinkles AND acne!
wash with olive oil soap or a exofliator in the shower and use a body brush and gel on my bum/ legs/ arms.
moisturise every day, usaully two types, jojoba oil for neck/ dry bits (£10 bottle lasts a year and is totally pure and non allergenic) and a light dermalogica one for spotty bits.
spot cream weekly/ daily as needed
body cream - as often as I can remember cos my skin gets relaly dry. i like the holiday skin stuff as it gives my pale limbs a bit of colour.

recently discovered waxing and now love having hair free legs! could never be bothered with shaving every day so had lovely hairy limbs.

Trim and tidy up bikini line once a month, more often in summer.

paint toenails in summer, often black or red.

All of the above applies for nights out as well except with the addition of piled on smokey eyes and possibly a dab of blusher or fake tan if I am feeling pale.

Its definitly got more, I used to hardly bother but now it takes me a good 10-15 minutes in the morning to get ready after I hop out the shower.

NormalityBites · 07/06/2010 20:36

I cleanse and tone, but I don't moisturise. I only use conditioner once a month. I don't exfoliate or use body lotion. I don't use soap.I keep my eyebrows plucked and shave legs/underarms every shower/bath, so they are always bare-able. I style my hair two or three times a week. I wear earrings on special occasions and try to match necklaces to outfits. I don't dye my hair. I wear varnish when I have a maicure/pedicure (three times in my life so far) otherwise I cannot be faffed. My nails are always far too long as I hate cutting them and they grow ridiculously fast and are stupidly strong. But I wear make up every day.
