In reference to a question by ltec the other day.

Sympathies MM, it's so hard when people can't understand your need for personal space! I guess you will be spending all day outside though right? Perhaps you could buy a package at a spa nearby, leave dcs with the rellies and go there for a couple of hours every day. You'd get bathroom privacy and personal space!

Romanarama · 13/06/2010 20:58

I've just read through - thanks for your sympathies, lol at 'root canal surgery' tracey. She is doing loads of things around the house, and spending even longer telling me about them.

Lovely Tesco dress Cain, I'm impressed. That Burberry skirt is divine hells.

I'm feeling too poor to shop at the moment. Not because we are earning any less, but it's all the apocalyptic stuff we're hearing from Cameron et al. V.depressing. It's so hard to work out whether it's just typical Tories taking advantage of economic crisis to obliterate half the public sector or whether we really are on the slide into serious austerity. Any one else nervous?

monkeysmama · 13/06/2010 20:58

That is a fantastic idea Roma. Brilliant. Off to search internet.

eshermummy · 13/06/2010 21:01

MM - Roman's suggestion is a good one. Looks like you might have to put up with it but hopefully you will get at least a couple of eve's babysitting out of it.
Also, much better to have found out now so you can get used to idea. If you are anything like me it would have been awful if I'd found out when I got there as I am rubbish at hiding my disappointment

hf128219 · 13/06/2010 21:13

Roman I am a civil servant and dh is Army but hopefully our jobs are secure.

With my job I am a 'money generator' so hopefully I will be safe too.

Blossoming/Fritzi iirc I was recommended this one
but found this which gave information about which colours to choose without having to fork out $40 for a colour swatch.

Fleecy · 13/06/2010 22:12

bunjies I can take or leave the football - miss the camaraderie (sp?) of being with everyone in the pub and hope England do well but not too fussed about watching it all. Expect I will see plenty though as DH is watching every game! Sky+ for the lot. The joys of working p/t... Last time he was on study leave and watched everything too.

roma DH and I both have financial backgrounds and think it will be a tough few years. But not the end of the world. Not a good time to go racking up loads of credit card debt but no harm in buying things you can afford and enjoy.

He is an accountant so he should be fine - and as I'm freelance, I tend to do better when people aren't hiring permanent staff so hopefully we'll be okay...

FritziGreenEyes · 13/06/2010 22:19

Cain - thank you! Have bookmarked the links and will do the test tomorrow at work

AllBuggiedOut · 13/06/2010 23:27

Really pleased you enoyed your course evedrythng. That's a great part of London too, I studied and worked round there for years.

My new "autumn" (colours, not season...) wardrobe is lacking a maxi dress. I've missed out on the khaki tiered maxi tracey (I think) had from DP. Has anybody seen anything good in autumnal colours? This is a possibility but a bit dull. Would prefer a pattern.

OllieWollieWoo · 14/06/2010 07:46

Morning. Having my usual Monday morning cup of tea in a nice quiet house (sorry Roman!).

Hello KristinaM - liked both of the dresses you linked too.
Cain - that Tescos's dress is great - may try and track one down in the blue.
Dolcee - agree with Roman re not overloading kids in the holidays. Mine are going to do a couple of sessions at our nearest Little Gym so I can have the odd morning to myself. I've noticed that since DS has started school, he sometimes just prefers to stay home and just play rather than go out somewhere! From my point of view, I like some structure to the week so plan ahead re days out and play dates etc - also gives the kids something to look forward too. I have 5 weeks to sort once we get back from holiday - DH starts his new job so unable to take any time off.
Blossoming - creme brulee sounds lovely - do you think its on the GF website?
Helles - glad you enjoyed the meet up! Was it weird meeting the faces behind the names?!!!

Gotta run - painter is in this morning to start on our bedroom - finally getting the Laura Ashley wallpaper you lot helped me choose put up - and DH has said I can get a new armchair for the room too! Can't wait for it all to be finished!

DolceeBanana · 14/06/2010 07:57

ABO - Planning in advance for the holidays because I am usually rubbish at this and try doing things last minute only to find there are no places...! DCs 4, 3 and 8 months!

Roman - tricky! I really need personal space too...and your MILs behaviour does sound a bit claustrophobic! Poor you...Any good friends you know who's own Mothers she could link up with to take the focus off you? She probably loves you dearly and to her mind is enjoying time with you....but I do understand it can be stifling.

1/2 day events a few times a week for kiddies was what I was thinking of. I completely understand the need for holiday clubs, but it's DCs last summer before starting school and well, let's just say I feel guilty at the prospect of sticking him in a club! Won't be saying that when he's older I bet!

Craft/creative things, swimming etc....what other pertinent things do you guys reckon...?

MM La Redoute have 30% off most of their range at the moment. Loads of strapless dresses/tops....might be worth a try?

Hells - Intrigued about this Dukan diet. Glad you had a fab meet up!

Right, off to get dressed - weather sunny at moment, but fear it won't last today!Oh, such a conundrum on what to wear....

blossoming · 14/06/2010 08:11

allbuggiedout, what about this one?

ollie, because the magazine is only just out, they wait a while before putting the recipes on the website, (or nobody would buy the magazine!!)

So, have been doing the shred for a week now. Yesterday at breakfast DH asked if I was wearing my spanx, or did I have a flat stomach!! First, I never wear spanx for breakfast, and second I've never had a flat stomach! So maybe working?? Weight is the same, but it's been a mad week with the Christening, birthday meals and parents yesterday.
Won't be able to do much this week as DH really busy. Thinking of doing the Shred twice a day to compensate. Also DC1 had a relapse of his illness last night, boiling up again, so I'm keeping him home. No school run (200 cals).

Any news on the Nap sale?

OP posts:
AllBuggiedOut · 14/06/2010 08:13

Check out local museums and libraries dolce; they often have free/cheap activities in the holidays you could book in for. Do you get any of those free magazines like Kidaround or Primary Times? There's usually listings of activities in them.

I find it really helpful to get my head round which friends are around when and book in playdates now - plan a trip to a park/beach/national trust property; you can always change the plan if the weather's not good but it's nice to have something like that planned maybe once a week.

Agree swimming good - maybe enrol the older kids on an intensive course (places near us to 1 hour a day for a week)?

Make dates to see friends who live a little way away; invite them to you or for a meet up somewhere.

I aim to plan something for 3 days each week. That way there's time to do spur-of-the-moment stuff, and it makes the odd day at home quite a treat. Do you have a garden? Make sure the paddling pool is ready to go! And this keeps mine entertained for ages

AllBuggiedOut · 14/06/2010 08:17

bloss sorry about your DS . And well done on the stomach! We saw that Phase Eight dress at the weekend, but don't like the fabric - it's that shiny/slippery polyester.

Just had an e-mail to say Selfridges sale starting online today.

hellsbelles · 14/06/2010 08:24

how weird. There is absolutely no sign of the NAP sale is there? I'll email the lady and ask her what's going on. She definitely said the 14th!!

blossoming · 14/06/2010 08:31

abo, what blue can you wear? Is it this one?
this one also nice.
Something here maybe?

Right, logging off..(for the moment!!)

RedBlueRed · 14/06/2010 08:34

For those of you looking for things to do with children, I really like this site

traceybath · 14/06/2010 09:14

Dolcee - school run lots of activities through the summer so DS is signed up for cricket, football and swimming - one week of mornings for each activity.

Will also fit some tennis lessons in too - sounds a lot but he's got nearly 2 months off which is a loooooong time.

NAP sale may just start in a bit I guess.

FritziGreenEyes · 14/06/2010 09:29

abo - I am not really sure about autumn colours, but maybe this in khaki?

hellsbelles · 14/06/2010 09:31

it does just seem weirdly silent though doesn't it?! How strange. Off to catch up.

OllieWollieWoo · 14/06/2010 09:33

Good point blossoming re magazine - have had a look online and found a blueberry cheesecake pot which looks good too: here.
DSs went off to school in their orange t shirts (Holland play this afternoon in World Cup) - the playground was awash with orange!

FritziGreenEyes · 14/06/2010 09:34

Or this?

Colour might be too pale?

Description says grey but I think it is definitely brown

Teal any good for autumns?

FritziGreenEyes · 14/06/2010 09:36

abo - The right colours for the French Connection one would be "tutti frutti" I think.

Right, back to work...

hellsbelles · 14/06/2010 10:00

MM - missed your mention of your sister the Spurs star!! Well done her!

Esher - I think we will find you something more spectacular than those wedges. House of Harlow are my favs so far

MB - at ipad teeshirt. I saw those too and did wonder what the world was coming too!

ABO - so sorry about the colour disappointment. But I love Esher's logic (about proper transformations being teh ones that are hardest) and I'm also very envious that you are allowed to wear those colours 'officially'...I'm not supposed to wear them but I do

Roma - goodness I don't know how you are managing to stay sane.

OWW - it was very weird but lovely meeting people. We'd all been chatting online for so long that there were no horrible surprises...just happy ones.

Right - DD is doing a sleep strike so better go get her.

LTEC - where are you? Are you still recovering from your Friday party? I need you to find me that skirt for £49.99
