Bra problems

If your bra underwiring digs in under the armpits where it didnt before-does this mean I need a bigger cup size or to go bigger around the back?

Also going up a back size means that I am getting fatter doesnt it? Does it?

Impossible to get a proper fitting with 3 kids in tow. Also no tape measure in the house.

Butterpie, there are some gorgeous strapslike this that can be added to a strapless or multiway, they don't always have to be tacky
Hermya, good thinking. Try a 30FF in the same style. Any close fitting garment will leave marks from wear, think jeans and socks. As long as they are temporary and not painful it's ok.
Purplepeony, the strap problem is really common, especially as so many styles are balcony, but the smaller the back, the better the proportions should be. It's just a case of try try try on though

I'm a bit bra-obsessed so I want to join in this thread! I am lucky to live in a place where we have a shop run by someone who was the manageress at Rigby & Thing in London. The bras are ££s and they are mostly continental brands. I bought a Marie Jo one for £50, the style is Avero. The shop owner said that it is a good idea to wash your bras in the shower so that is what I do now. I swish it in the handbasin with some delicate fabric wash liquid and then take it in the shower to rinse along with me - IYSWIM. For a cheaper bra I like the Panache t-shirt one, with the moulded cups. The problem I have that as I am older my breasts are not so full at the top and Freya & Fantasie are too full at the top of the cup. I'm ballpark 30E for size. Any other suggestions for slightly cheaper than £50 styles which are small in the top of the cup?

marriednotdead · 24/05/2010 09:53

Hi Dorothy
Glad you're handwashing, it really makes a difference. Styles that might work for you are Charnos anais & cherub (both quite generous so maybe DD), any of the Masquerade balcony styles and Panache Tango plunge. All around the £25-£30 mark. Oh, and Lepel fiore for a real cheapie (@£20)but go down a cup as it's another stretchy one.
HTH. Off to paid work now

KittyTwoShoes · 24/05/2010 12:10

Thanks married and purplepeony! I shall go investigate.

BitOfFunInTheQuattro · 24/05/2010 12:55

I love the Lepel Fiore- it's a classic.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 24/05/2010 17:18

My new bra is loooooooooooooovelyyyyyyyy.

Thank you to VictoriaScrumptious for starting this thread as otherwise I wouldn't have known that my bras were not fitting correctly. I have been warm and sticky at times but my bra is still comfortable.

marriednotdead · 24/05/2010 20:58

Spread the word now you're a convert Fab Yes, nice one Victoria. It's very enlightening for me to hear what the women I don't get to see struggle with. I truly believe knowing how a bra should fit should be part of education at school- the long term suffering of many women would be avoided if they were taught properly from an early age

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/05/2010 13:02

Todays hasn't been so comfortable but has settled down now.

frakkit · 25/05/2010 13:15

I am also fanatical about bras fitting properly and have another name to add to the mix (it's £££ though). Aubade...beautiful, lacy, sexy, feminine scaffolding lingerie.

I went from a 36D to a 32F when I was fitted at 21 and the revelation - previously I'd thought I had huge boobs that were horribly saggy, had inch wind staps on all my bras to keep the hoiked up, wouldn't have dreamt of revealing any cleavage. It was stunning!

M&S were awful, I actually got fitted at HoF and tried 3 different brands before I managed to find one that fitted perfectly. Freya bras, for example, should come in half cup sizes as far as I'm concerned! Just too small/too big.

Then I discovered Aubade and now I have no money but a happy DH

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/05/2010 15:57

The one i am wearing today, I would not have bought if it had felt like this in the shop. It was the most expensive and my favourite so I hope it is better once washed.

TheHoodedClaw · 25/05/2010 20:27

Is it feeling tight? It will for a few days, Fab (BOF here)

marriednotdead · 25/05/2010 20:34

Which one is it Fab? After all that effort, I'd hate to think you're suffering

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/05/2010 20:35

It is a 36F I think. It feels tightish. I am because the other one I wore yesterday was a 36G and was perfect. Wondering about getting bra extenders like I wore when breast feeding. This bra was £32.

marriednotdead · 25/05/2010 20:37

What brand/style? If you've only had it on for an hour or so and you're not sure it's the right fit, take it back.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/05/2010 20:41

No, I wore it all day. Been busy and just kept pulling it away from my skin and then took it off at 6.

marriednotdead · 25/05/2010 20:44

I'd still be considering returning it.
It should not be that uncomfortable.
And £32 is another bra waiting for you that won't drive you nuts

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/05/2010 20:46

But won't they say tough as I tried it on? The girl did say she wasn't a fitter.

marriednotdead · 25/05/2010 21:04

Not really. If it's not fit to wear comfortably then I'd brazen it out and ask for your money back tbh. If there are no obvious signs of wear then they are highly unlikely to refuse. you sought assistance on the day so it's not like you didn't try IYSWIM.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 25/05/2010 21:08

And I did spend £162.

marriednotdead · 25/05/2010 21:09

Exactly Fab. Stand up for your boobs

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 27/05/2010 20:24

I could cry. Got another bra on today and have been pulling at it all day. It was fine in the shop. [fed up]

marriednotdead · 27/05/2010 20:33

Not sounding good at all Fab Could you call the store and find out when the fitter will be in so that she can work out what needs to change?

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 27/05/2010 20:35

They don't have fitters.

I made all the notes from the Bravissimo site and everything was as they said as well as feeling great.

Just been looking at bra extenders on ebay.

marriednotdead · 27/05/2010 20:59

Oh, it was going so well.
Extenders will hopefully be a short term solution while the bra 'gives' a bit.
Where does the bra irritate you most?

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 28/05/2010 07:58

The one I wore yesterday was the one black one I got and it is around the band.

The one I have on now is the one that is fine and I have worn it 3 times now.
