Dis - I had my hair coloured today and mentioned what had happened to you to my colourist. He said you should sue though might be difficult when you didn't want a patch test. Did they even offer you one though?

Disenchanted3 · 15/05/2010 15:16

No they didn't mention a patch test at all.

I jus went and they say me down and put the dye on. They never uttered anything about it.

I'm not gonna sue, I haven't the money or the time to really.

I dunno what I'm gonna do when this fades in about a month though

I hope you don't think I was suggesting that I thought it was your colour that caused the reaction, as I was only pointing out what they might say to wriggle out of it.

Visit your CAB for advice about how to handle this. It probably wouldn't cost you a thing to sue, as they would have to pay all costs.

If nothing else you should explain to salon and at least expect your money back.

LIZS · 15/05/2010 16:59

but goober she has got her money back . I think it was bad of them not to have at least offered let alone insisted on a test to cover themselves but suspect you had booked it in such a hurry you didn't stop to think of any consequences, which they may then have gone along with. There should be a salon dye which would suit you, since you think the home dyes were ok, so let this one fade out and then think again , making sure you test before you go as you seem sensitive. Did you say your sister was a hairdresser, could she check the type used for you so you can know what to avoid ?

teta · 15/05/2010 17:20

Disenchanted i am not a hairdresser but the three lots of hair dye probably had similar chemicals in that wouldn't normally give you a reaction ,but by using it 3 times you are sensitizing your scalp. The 3rd time it is applied it will cause an acute burning sensation and cause redness due the the histamine produced by an allergic reaction. So not a problem with the dye as such just a progressive build up of sensitivity .You might be fine in future but you will have to be careful and always patch test.Hope your soreness goes soon!.

Disenchanted I'm so sorry for what happened, of course it would have been best to do a skin test, it is after all what we are trained to do as stylists but unfortunately it's not mandatory. Could you call and ask what brand of colour and volume of peroxide they used and write it down? That way you would be able to tell the next person to colour your hair so anything like this couldn't happen again.
Teta is right though, it may not have been the dye at all. I'm actually quite surprised that they agreed to dye your hair in the first place if you told them you had only just bleached and then recoloured?
What dye did you use after the bleach? It may have had metallic salts in it which would cause a reaction with the salons dye.
Just throwing some ideas out there.
Hope you feel better very soon.
