A potentially really stupid question about pony tails...

ok. You know those "double" hair bobbles? The ones that have some form of "thing" on either side with a wee metal bit in the middle? Well, is there a secret to how you put them in? How DO you put them in? Do you just double it over and treat it like an ordinary hair bobble??

DD2 has loads of them and is yet to wear one because of her inadequate mother (these things should really come with instructions...)

Looking forward to the wisdom of MN to help DD enter a whole new world of hair accessories!

lal123 · 09/05/2010 21:24

How can we share this wondrous news with more mums????? There must be hundreds of thousands of little girls going round with their hair done WRONG!!! I feel a MN campaign coming on - all we need is a snazzy slogan

I've been using them wrong for years too! I've always hated those bobbles but now i curiously want some to try on dd's hair the right way.

lal123 · 09/05/2010 21:36

badgermonkey - Only 30 and didn't know this?
I'm 38 and had no idea! I feel so ashamed

TheCrackFox · 09/05/2010 22:21

I never knew that.

I bloody love Mumsnet.

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 09/05/2010 22:27

I am so lost - are you talking about the ones that are like two normal bands, but linked on the metal bit and they have plastic balls on them? This is mind boggling!

CrispyTheCrisp · 09/05/2010 22:28

Phew, only 37

Yes - SecretLemonadeDrinker

Trikken · 09/05/2010 22:29

thanks for that. I've had a few of them in my time but have always used them wrong!!!

Hulababy · 09/05/2010 22:31

Do you know how to cheat with ribbons too?

Tie to ribbon in a know onto a plain elastic. Put elastic in as normal. then tie the ribbon in a bow.

Looks the same as hand tied (you can always wrap once round hair to get ful effect) put so much easier and stays in.

Bobbles. . . shudder. Can't believe they're back in for little girls (hopefully not big ones!) -- or did they never, in fact, go out of fashion.

Did anyone else wear lace in their hair to primary school c. 1983? (and get it confiscated!)

Hulababy · 10/05/2010 16:49

Not sure bobbles ever went out of fashion for little girls did they?

ruddynorah · 10/05/2010 17:29

bobbles are surely compulsory for any discerning little girl

diddl · 10/05/2010 17:44

Am I the only one who had them in my hair as a little one, then?
(And hence how I know how to use them!)

englishpatient · 10/05/2010 17:51

No diddl, I had them too - and so I know how to put them in too!

diddl · 11/05/2010 09:21

Phew!

Thinking I must be really old or something to remember them from the "first time around"

Think we used to call them "go-gos"(?)

Flamesparrow · 11/05/2010 09:37

I'm stunned by how many people didn't know how to use them!!
