I've been doing all the exfoliation thing and normal moisturiser but think I need something more heavy duty!

marking my place for the pearls of wisdom...

what I don't understand is how I don't get them in winter when my arms are hidden from sight! Why only in the spring/summer?

MegSophandEmma · 23/04/2010 21:30

I get this at the top of my thighs. Tis gross!!

Marks my spot on thread.

LauraIngallsWilder · 23/04/2010 21:31

Me too, on the backs of my arms above my elbows

LadyBiscuit · 23/04/2010 21:34

Flexitol! It's the hard skin cream for your feet. I'm glad you raised this (ho ho) because my DS has it really badly but he's only 3. I need to google to find out if it's okay to put on him (it has urea in it)

LilRedWG · 23/04/2010 21:38

I have this and it's spread to my legs and I hate it. DD seems to have inherited it too.

Lionstar · 23/04/2010 21:38

Would be interested in knowing that too LadyBiscuit. My 3yr old DD has really bad skin on her arms and legs. Apparently it is common on DPs side of the family - keratosis pilaris I think. She doesn't seem too bothered by it, but I am as it looks so dry and rough. And I'm sure it will probably bother her as she gets older.

Sugarbomb · 23/04/2010 21:40

Are you body brushing Merlin? I found that really helped mine.

JeMeSouviens · 23/04/2010 21:42

Its Scrub Your Nose In It, works a treat.

cornsilk · 23/04/2010 21:42

flexitoland body brushing works for me.

LostArtOfKeepingASecret · 23/04/2010 21:43

Ohh, thanks for this info. Do they sell it by the bucket load?

Francagoestohollywood · 23/04/2010 21:44

Body brushing works for me. ANd getting a tan in the summer.

LadyBiscuit · 23/04/2010 21:44

Lionstar - just did a google because I've been using Eucerin/e45 etc for ages and it really doesn't make any difference. Rhere is a woman on a US KP site who reports miraculous effects through applying apple cider vinegar daily with a cotton wool ball! I might give that a go.

Lionstar · 23/04/2010 21:49

Interesting LB, might be worth a stab (E45, emollients etc. also have no effect here). Am damn sure she wouldn't let me within 5 feet of her with a body brush!!

merlin · 23/04/2010 21:50

Thnaks all - Flexitol? really? I use it on my feet and it's great for that - will give a go!!

Oh is it your daughter that has them? That changes things slightly! not sure the SS viewpoint on body brushing your kids...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/04/2010 22:02

I used to get this a lot. Sanctuary Salt Scrub followed by any moisturiser for extra dry skin works to keep it at bay. And the tan thing works for me as well.

LadyBiscuit · 23/04/2010 22:13

I exfoliate with those knitted nylon gloves and use a heavy duty moisturiser every time I have a shower and that's sorted them for me. I suspect that will go down less well with the 3YO

I am going shopping tomorrow am so will get some cider vinegar and report back

I have this too and got a cream from the doctors - if its keratosis pilaris, usual moisturisers just don't work that well - I think the one I had has urea in it.

Doodleydoo · 23/04/2010 22:33

I have one am just popping into the cupboard to find it - it is usually keratosis pilaris which is pretty tricky to get rid of but usually a cream with aha in it will do I have Environ ALPHA HYDROXY Derma - Lac lotion here

hugebelly · 24/04/2010 08:51

I always find that creams and oils penetrate my skin better when I'm just out of the shower and skin is slightly damp.

Not much help, but good luck, xxx

littledawley · 24/04/2010 08:53

Taking daily flaxseed oil does wonders.

cocolepew · 24/04/2010 08:54

Taking fish oils can help.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 24/04/2010 09:53

You need a cream with urea in it - eg. many creams for cracked heels like flexitol. There are some body lotions with urea in though - Aldi have one in at the moment with 10%urea which is nice and light compared with foot creams.

CoteDAzur · 24/04/2010 09:55

Please somebody tell me that "urea" is not "pee".
