I've been doing all the exfoliation thing and normal moisturiser but think I need something more heavy duty!

It's not!!

CoteDAzur · 24/04/2010 10:16

What is it, then?

Urea = main component of mammalian pee.

Chandon · 24/04/2010 10:17

The Eucerin brand is very good, it´s German I think and contains Urea. It is PH neutral, and works well on my DSs sandpaper eczema prone skin. (E45 is useless, just petroleum jelly in water!)

Sun helps too, somehow.

After applying my night face cream or serum, I just wipe off what's left on my hands on my arms.

I do this mechanically and have just realised my arms are smoother!

I use a clarifying/whitening lotion in the evening and I recently started wiping my arms with the cotton ball when I'm done on my face.
Again, skin is smoother.

DermaDoctor KP Duty is the one I have, and it really does work. But I got it in the US. Basically you need something with a mild acid in it (glycolic, salicylic, etc) to help with exfoliation.

omnishambles · 24/04/2010 19:41

As said before - the gloves that you use in a moroccan hammam are really good - you just have to scrub really hard - then just some oil afterwards...

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 24/04/2010 19:42

Soap & Glory - scrub for the nose gets rid of arm spots straight away.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 24/04/2010 19:43

scrub your nose in it.

TheCrackFox · 24/04/2010 19:44

I started taking cod liver oil last year because I had sore joints and they made the spots on the top of my arms go.

lovingthesun · 24/04/2010 19:48

omega 3's to treat & prevent + exfoliation & moisturiser, something like a good virgin olive oil.

brockleybelle · 24/04/2010 19:56

It's called Keratosis pilaris and is the bane of my life. I have it all over my thighs, all over tops of arms and on hips. I went to doc and he prescribed me diprobase, a heavy duty cream. It helps. Have read too that, as others have said, creams with urea are good.

brockleybelle · 24/04/2010 19:58

I find it gets much better in the summer, as there's more moisture in the air. I look horrendous in the winter.
I read somewhere that it particular affects those of celtic ethnicity - dad's irish.

AuntieMaggie · 24/04/2010 21:18

I thought urea was urine???

HellBent · 24/04/2010 21:21

If you have these bumps at the top of your arms you should increase oils/fatty acid in your diet and they will go away. fish, nuts, seeds etc..

AuntieMaggie · 24/04/2010 21:24

I heard that about the omega 3 oils too

My sister also swore by soap and glory scrub and body butter, but I don't know which one.

CrankyTwanky · 24/04/2010 21:51

So glad for this post! I can ignore it in the winter, but remember how miserable it makes me in the summer.
I haven't worn a short-sleved top for years

foureleven · 25/04/2010 10:58

Step daughter gets this and after researching i found alot of people who beleive it is a vitamin D deficiency - hence why its worse in winter because the sun helps our bodies absorb vitamin D. A big glass of milk a day was reccommended and I have to say it has really worked for her this year... worth a go?

bluebump · 25/04/2010 11:04

I get these although they tend to get better in the sun. I won a free sample of this from Lush and they vanished. Unfortunately at that price I can't afford to actually buy any more but I know it works!

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2010 11:08

I ahve this
bought scrub your nose in it so will try that - do I just use it like I would for the face - put it on, leave for 5 mins then wash off?

Also might buy flexitol and increase oils!

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2010 11:09

just to clarify - we're not talking about spots but little bumps of dry skin all over?

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2010 11:09

going int the shower ,will report back

Jacanne · 25/04/2010 11:14

Apparently it's a sign that you need more essential fatty acids in your diet - so some kind of fish oil supplement of DHA could help.

wigglybeezer · 25/04/2010 12:16

I read up on this (we all have it, DS3 the worst) and cream with lactic acid and urea was reccomended, I have found that Calmurid is available and very good tho' the chemist has to order it for me. Might see if the doc will give DS3 a prescription for it.

Mine has got a bit better since I started taking cod liver oil (we live in dark, unsunny Scotland and are so fairskinned we have to put sunblock on when the sun does come out!).
