are they TOO forgiving? are they the jeggings of the summer season - do you get them as you know they will give and therefore put up with an increasing wasitband?

Mil going on and on about linen trousers and I thought - its only beaucse they GIVE

Ha,I never thought that way about jeggings but you're right you know!

So they encourage you to be a bit less circumspect about what you eat?

I keep a pair of very old jeans in cupboard and try on occasinoally. If they are a bit tight,I know it's time to stop troughing.

Yes, linen very stretchy.I have just dispayed my knickers to about 30 open mouthed Bangladeshi neighbours as my newish pair more or less fell down. They were snug in t' shop.

I think if you like a particular fashion thing that really needs you to be in quite good shape then if you are wearing long things and scarves and bum hiding cardies etc eventually you cover the very thing you liked about it and it loses its 'look' iygwim

BUT if you have been wearing them and then try them on when thinner they look so much better and you won't want to wear them as fat hiders more as fashion.

Never thought about the give in linen trousers! I certainly don't buy mine with that in mind, I just love them for summer.

I think you are definitely onto something - especially the drawstring waist ones. But I don't do linen trousers really.

However I notice I eat less/more restrained on the days I am wearing my 'thin' jeans.

mangoandlime · 11/04/2010 18:17

Oh yes, drawstring ones are a bit like tracky bottoms in that respect, I stick to the smarter cut.

I thought linen trousers were ment to be baggy and not stretch at all, but then I'm no fashion guru.
I do like them for the summer, in fact I've just bought 2 pairs from primark £6 each (bargain)

Report
mangoandlime · 11/04/2010 19:26

Please don't say you bought the white Primark ones, mummyloveslucy?! They are the most see through ever, I always buy lined White linen or those with big pockets on the bum.

They aren't stretchy as such, but there is 'give' as you wear throughout the day. I always buy longer than I need too because they shrink like hell in the wash, over time.

I wsa thinking about this 'nobody tells you you're getting fat'
I told dh to tell me-he refuses

I blame him entirely for my gut

Especially if you get ones from Next. I spent weeks last summer thinking I had miraculously lost pounds as they were so slack ... then tried my jeans on Mine are more comfy than my pyjamas now!!

In the book 'Fat Land' Greg Critzer blames loose linen trousers (among other things like big restaurant chairs) for the rise in obesity in America.

I blame leggins.

LetThemEatCake · 11/04/2010 20:33

yes, I remember that from Fat Land ... also that more sizes are available so you;re never stuck for something to wear ... you'd not have got XXXL in the menswear dept 30 odd years ago - now, you get big, you go up a size, no biggie.

TBH ... and sorry to those who own them ... I think linen trousers are a disaster, full stop.
