are they TOO forgiving? are they the jeggings of the summer season - do you get them as you know they will give and therefore put up with an increasing wasitband?

Mil going on and on about linen trousers and I thought - its only beaucse they GIVE

I think buying new each summer helps, I know the sort of linen trousers you mean though, baggy, saggy, out if shape at the knees... They do lose their shape easily.

I think there must be a few things worse than wearing linen trousers (as long as they're not cropped) so I'm sticking with mine! Hey ho.

Have just been on M & S website looking for elasticated ones ......they were all sold out. I obviously need a style overhaul

I have never bought or seen an nyone wearing a pair of flattering linen trousers.

Within a half hour of putting them on they look shapeless rumpled and decidely bedraggled.

Not a good lok, however big your arse is.

I ahve a grey pair and a navy pair and look crap in both, i feel so matronly in them

FFF - I think hhe may be right!
I have some lvoely red linen crops that start the day off snug, by the time I leave work I am hoiking them up with bulldog grips!

yes, I remember that from Fat Land ... also that more sizes are available so you;re never stuck for something to wear ... you'd not have got XXXL in the menswear dept 30 odd years ago - now, you get big, you go up a size, no biggie.

TBH ... and sorry to those who own them ... I think linen trousers are a disaster, full stop.

In the book 'Fat Land' Greg Critzer blames loose linen trousers (among other things like big restaurant chairs) for the rise in obesity in America.

fatzak · 11/04/2010 19:35

Especially if you get ones from Next. I spent weeks last summer thinking I had miraculously lost pounds as they were so slack ... then tried my jeans on Mine are more comfy than my pyjamas now!!

Please don't say you bought the white Primark ones, mummyloveslucy?! They are the most see through ever, I always buy lined White linen or those with big pockets on the bum.

They aren't stretchy as such, but there is 'give' as you wear throughout the day. I always buy longer than I need too because they shrink like hell in the wash, over time.

I thought linen trousers were ment to be baggy and not stretch at all, but then I'm no fashion guru.
I do like them for the summer, in fact I've just bought 2 pairs from primark £6 each (bargain)

Oh yes, drawstring ones are a bit like tracky bottoms in that respect, I stick to the smarter cut.

Report
traceybath · 11/04/2010 18:14

I think you are definitely onto something - especially the drawstring waist ones. But I don't do linen trousers really.

However I notice I eat less/more restrained on the days I am wearing my 'thin' jeans.

Never thought about the give in linen trousers! I certainly don't buy mine with that in mind, I just love them for summer.
