What foundation do you use and what age are you?

I know there are loads of threads re foundations but I don't think I've seen any with ages attached! I'm curious really ... is a 40-something (me!) too old for Bobbi Brown (although I did try their foundation years ago and didn't like it). In the last few years I've gone through Laura Mercier, Chanel Vitaluminiere, Giorgio Armani, Guerlain and now Chantecaille Future Skin. The Armani is definitely my favourite but at £55 and with postage on top, being on maternity leave/career break etc, it was just too expensive. Yes, the Chantecaille is just as pricey but I don't like it as much.

So humour me please ... some foundations linked by age!!

I am 39 and at the moment I wear matlumiere (oily skin) but also really like lancome's color ideal

traceybath · 04/04/2010 20:49

37 - dry skin and vitalumiere.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/04/2010 20:49

I'm 44 and, like you, keep trying foundations but I think I may have found "the one" - Dior Nude. Very nice...

And, the shame, the shame, Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Foundation is pretty good too.

So, basically, foundations with moisturisers in. I have odd skin though. It used to be quite oily amd still is a bit. I still get spots for goodness sake!

Intergalactic · 04/04/2010 20:50

I'm 26 and I use Lilylolo mineral foundation. I really hope that by the time I am 40+ I'll be earning enough to spend your sort of money on foundation .

coolma · 04/04/2010 20:53

I'm 45 and I have recently started using l'oreal revitalist. It's luverly. For the past ten years I[ve used nivea tinted moisturiser but have suddenly started to - um - sag a little and the l'oreal covers it up beautifully - it's only about £15 too.

Millie1 · 04/04/2010 20:54

I found the Vitalumiere just too oily on my skin yet so many people recommend it.

I've seen ads for Dior Nude BDSM ... what sort of coverage does it give.

Haven't looked at Lancome.

Actually, given that I'm rationing mine at the moment I really do feel an urgent need to spend some time in House of Fraser!

Keep 'em coming please! Shall check back shortly ... Easter Eggs calling rather loudly

I'm 39 and also use Lilylolo mineral foundation. I have slightly dry cheeks, but if they're properly moisturised first it goes on really well and is brill. I used to have quite spotty skin and it's really helped.

bethjeff · 04/04/2010 20:55

estee lauder doublewear- im 24

quite pleased as most people dont realise i wear a lot of makeup but doublewear is like cement

albeit flawless cement

4andnotout · 04/04/2010 21:03

Virgin Vie - One Step Face Base.

Well I was until today when one of the dd's found it and smashed it

4andnotout · 04/04/2010 21:04

Oh and I'm 28

deliciousdevilwoman · 04/04/2010 21:06

I am nearly 41 and for many years used to wear Lancome's Teint Renergie Lift. I have recently converted to Chanel Vitaluminiere.

In my 20's it was Clinique Pore minimiser Foundation or various Rimmel, O'loreal, Leichner and No7.

bibbitybobbityhat · 04/04/2010 21:08

47, chanel mattlumiere.

purplepeony · 04/04/2010 21:10

Clinique Repair Wear and I'm early 50s. Love it.

Tortington · 04/04/2010 21:12

37 - i don't as a rule

but when i do ( twice a year maybe) i use a tinted moisturiser.

janeite · 04/04/2010 21:14
  1. I used to really like Prescriptives but of course, that's dead n gone now.

Clinique stuff is too pink/orange for me.

I have been using Max Factor Second Skin which is pretty good for the price and yesterday I bought the new Revlon one after a lovely lady tried it out on me in Boots.

Does anybody use Clarins because I'm tempted by theirs, since the colours seem suitably ghost-like for me?

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 04/04/2010 21:23

38 - dry skin - Some kind of gorgeous - Benefit. Tried Vitalumiere but didn't find it as good. Use a primer - makes a difference.

Bert2e · 04/04/2010 21:28

38, dry skin, just started using Maybelline Dream Creamy which I love - I was using Boots No7 Colour Adapt but I need more coverage. Slinks off now having admitted that I haven't heard of half the stuff some of you use!

hatwoman · 04/04/2010 21:28

on a good day I use a dab of touche eclat under the eyes and body shop face powder. on a not-so-good day I used the above with a body shop tinted moisturiser.

activate · 04/04/2010 21:36

40s and still don't understand the need for foundation

tethersend · 04/04/2010 21:37

32 and have just switched to bare minerals- it's a fucking revelation.

purplepeony · 04/04/2010 21:39

so why post activate?
everyone looks better with a bit of foundation. If you won't believe it no one can persuade you but it is true.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 04/04/2010 21:42

Tethersend - do you know whether bare minerals OK for dry skin?

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 04/04/2010 21:44

Slight hijack, but does anyone know of a decent foundation from a company who don't do animal testing?

I'm not a veggie or an animal activist, I just try as far as I can to avoid these products (although I know it's almost impossible to get oingredients that haven't been tested on animals historically.)

Millie1 · 04/04/2010 21:44

Think I tried a sample of one of the mineral foundations once upon a time ... not for me

OP posts:
Jewelsandgems · 04/04/2010 21:52

I am 32. For matt skin mood I use bare minerals. For ultra-dewy skin I use Mac tinted moisterisor and then posietint and/or highbeam (depending on day of evening look!)

I find most foundations look great when inside, but go outside and crack a massive smile, and it is not good (so for me, this is the test I use when thinking about changing makup)
