I currently use Virgin Vie's Face Base in Ivory but my skin has gone bonkers lately (a combination of spots and dryness) and it just looks awful.

Can anyone recommend a good face base, preferably something easy to apply. Not too greasy but not too powdery either. I plan to plonk around the shop (and am at Heathrow on Saturday so could have a look in Duty Free) but would like some recommendations to start with please.

Thank you!

Chanel vitalumiere (recommended on here!)

Liquid, goes on beautifully

bluebump · 23/03/2010 14:37

Clinique Superbalanced. I've tried for years to find something cheaper but there is no point, it's really good!

Chanel Vitalumiere

Walnut8 · 23/03/2010 15:15

For all you Chanel Vit. lovers, can you please tell me your application method? I used to use it and loved the dewiness it gave my skin, but became fed up with the fact that it would always rub and/or leave me with a shiny nose/forehead (sorry for post hijack Sidge).

BariatricObama · 23/03/2010 16:23

Chanel Vit use a sponge to apply

Walnut8 · 23/03/2010 18:22

Ta. Any powder over the top?

Cabatach · 23/03/2010 18:29

I have bought the Vitalumiere compact to use as a powder with the liquid foundation. Highly recommended - can also use to 'repair' my face during the day...!

LillianGish · 23/03/2010 18:37

Loreal True Match - not too expensive either but as good if not better than any of the more top end brands I've tried (Clinique, Clarins, Lancome - all good, but Loreal just as good).

SuSylvester · 23/03/2010 19:22

vitalumiere does not come in pale/non-olivey shades though

if you are pasty like me then you need Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation

blackmilkofdaybreak · 23/03/2010 19:39

chantecaille tinted moisteriser is the best 55 quid you will ever spend

ReneRusso · 23/03/2010 19:41

I use Clinique Almost Makeup, it's very smooth and light, easy to apply, good if you want light coverage.

wifyhome · 23/03/2010 19:41

I use Vichy

ShadeofViolet · 23/03/2010 19:41

I use Chanel Vit too - I bought if after it was recommended on here - though I use the Clair shade. It is really expensive but I dont use it often, and I use my boots advantage card points as I would never be able to afford it otherwise - its a treat to myself

I used to use Clarins Instant Smooth, which I found was great but it started to clog my skin,

SuSylvester · 23/03/2010 20:07

i was the first discoverer of it
wish i had been on comission

cornsilk · 23/03/2010 21:11

I reckon I discovered it before you Su.

MaineGirl · 23/03/2010 21:24

i use the chanel one too, but have also just discovered the maybeline liquid minerals foundation and i have to say thats excellent. i had a splurge in superdrug on a basket full of cheap and cheerful makeup in experimental colours and saw the foundation, remebered reading a good review about it, so brought it.
i use a foundation brush, i have two an MAC one and a superdrug qvs (i think) one and prfer the superdrug one.

MillyR · 23/03/2010 23:40

I use the Chanel prolumiere as I am too oily for vitalumiere. I am very happy with it.
