Wonder how quickly we'll fill this one?

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 31/03/2010 14:35

It is a bit of a shift to think one can do more than one style. I was so 'directional' in my twenties but directed myself into a corner.. then broke free early thirties.

As long as I can 'pull together' any one outfit/look then it's a good thing. Also your natural style will always come through.

See even your hair knows it

MarshaBrady · 31/03/2010 14:41

Also if you want to close the gap a bit you can wear preppy with a bit of a nonchalant swagger, a bit undone and voila you are a bit messy, dishevelled and your style.

I remember wearing the school tie and uniform with such slightly undone aplomb we were styling even back then!

Ok am rambling, 5 year old is reading his story to 3 month old!

LetThemEatCake · 31/03/2010 15:06

oooh, blossoming - for your Paris trip

www.petitpalais.paris.fr

www.yslretrospective.com

until 29 August for anyone else who's interested.

maybe we should have our meet-up there!!

traceybath · 31/03/2010 15:11

I like this tea dress

mrsjuan · 31/03/2010 15:45

I like that dress Tracey - and it's blue - do you think it would be ok for an August wedding?

Cakey - request sent (gulp).

I would def be up for a quiz - teen magazine style with arrows and flowcharts and everything!

Dolcee - I know exactly what you mean by feeling fraudulent wearing different styles - I find it really hard to try new things when seeing people I've known for ages too iyswim.

LetThemEatCake · 31/03/2010 15:58

Dolce not sure about feeds .. I'm a creature of lack-of-routine. I just feed him whenever. He's probably having as many as before but they are much shorter. So more about thirst than hunger I guess. 3 solid meals a day and the odd rusk too.

HappyHome · 31/03/2010 16:00

Hello again,
I de lurked about a week ago and have just been catching up on this thread.

My style swings wildly in different directions and I think its to do with how I'm feeling. If I'm relaxed, spending time with my family its kind of boho/vintagey - a bit more experimental. If I'm a little unsure of myself I dress with far more consideration and like to look more put together iyswim.

I guess then my style is based very much on my confidence and how comfortable I feel in a situation. Crikey that was a bit deep wasn't it!
Anyway on a lighter note here is a style quiz

Apparently I am a Modern Maven!

OllieWollieWoo · 31/03/2010 16:47

Think I need to re-do the test - I came out as Inspired Americana and my style icon is Gwen Stefani - that somehow doesnt sound quite right if you knew me in RL! Good test tho HappyHome!

ooooh can't wait to do that quiz.

By the way, ladies of the W&A .. have just been trawling MrsJ's FB photos and may I just tell you - she is gorgeous. Gorgeous!!!

Fleecy · 31/03/2010 17:10

Afternoon all,

Can't remember all the links! Have had parents, sister and niece here today but now catching up...

MrsJ - I already stalked requested LTEC myself and am friends with Bunjies too - where are you?

LetThemEatCake · 31/03/2010 17:12

Fleecy - look on my page - she's my most recent add.

have you had a lovely girly day?

Fleecy · 31/03/2010 17:13

I am slightly suspicious of the quiz as I am also... inspired Americana!

Are there any other results?

Fleecy · 31/03/2010 17:17

I will - but I meant Bunjies - I haven't seen her for a bit? See, I really am stalkerish! Or maybe just nosy

HappyHome · 31/03/2010 17:21

There must be because apparently I'm.....

'Modernist maven
You like to look good, but don't want to spend hours standing in front of the mirror, and you certainly dont have time to spend on fussy fashions. Keeping it simple and comfortable is what you're all about and luckily this Spring, there's a trend that's just right for your clean and modern take on style. Modernist chic is all about layered, luxurious fabrics in neutral hues of sand, dusky pink and khaki. Brighten up the look with bold neon accessories.

Celebrity soul mate: Stella McCartney

Must-have item: A modern parka to keep that Spring chill at bay'

You must all have a similar style all I need now is a parka, glad its not the high waisted denim shorts with my legs

traceybath · 31/03/2010 17:47

HH - I too was modernist maven and am most defintely not a parka girl.

Hana - definitely not gamine either - chunky/stocky! Lordy - I'll need a lie down if I ever have to describe myself like that

I actually think I'm pretty classic with a hint of mutton/WAG thrown in.

LetThemEatCake · 31/03/2010 18:20

too funny. I am

Rock chic revamped
You're a party girl and you make no apologies for it. Good for you! Not one to shy away from a spot of glamour, this season you get a chance to play with sixties shapes and seventies prints. Say goodbye to that dated rock chick look and think of yourself more as a pretty, free-spirited feminine collage. Combine billowing dresses and floral tunics with long, beaded necklaces for that 'almost famous' look. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Celebrity soul mate: Kate Moss

Must-have item: Maxi dress

Moneyspider · 31/03/2010 18:27

Shouldn't that be:

Must find item: maxi dress?

FrancesFarmer · 31/03/2010 18:41

Hello, I've been lurking for ages and it's time to out myself, I think. I really enjoy reading W&A and can't hold back any longer! Allow me to introduce my stylish self - I'm certainly very avid but I could do with becoming wiser.

My biggest fashion sins are:

An addiction to Toast-style tunic tops and shirt dresses etc that veer dangerously into frumpy territory.

Needless snobbery: it's a common theme these days that one should aim for timeless quality over cheapo fast-fashion but I think I've gone too far with it and have neglected some of the better high-street stores as a result. E.g. a good thorough browse through Topshop or River Island will reveal some nice, well-made pieces and ok, a Gap floral blouse might not be as well-made as an APC one but they ain't bad at all!

Again, the argument for investing in classics doesn't entirely stand up to scrutiny (think there was a thread on this here recently): even classic items change subtly through the years; there's no point in being a slave to an unknowable future when clothes shopping and finally, it gets rather boring being sensible all the time.

Finally, I tend to neglect real-life shops for on-line ones because I can spend time obsessing over items on web-sites and I spend all my money on-line before I get time to browse real-world shops at leisure. Must make more time for real-world browsing and rediscover some of the nice boutiques in my city!

What I really want style-wise is to look good no matter what style I'm experimenting with. All fashions date but I like the idea of people looking at photos of me years from now and remarking that I look chic and well even if the clothes I am wearing are no longer in vogue in the future.

That should do for now ? I might post up some links later (although I must admit I?m a bit intimidated by you wonderfully stylish and fashion-literate ladies).

traceybath · 31/03/2010 18:47

Hello Frances - I so agree with you about not over investing in classics.

Romanarama · 31/03/2010 18:53

Didn't get job . No CLs for me then.

Romanarama · 31/03/2010 18:55

I'm Gwen Stefani (inspired Americana)

traceybath · 31/03/2010 19:04

Oh sorry Roman - have you got any more interviews lined up?
