Help me find my Boden outfit!

Bumperlicious · 23/02/2010 20:54

I'm very chuffed to be going to the MN party but now having complete style palpations and need some help. Have never worn Boden before. The prize is dress or equivalent, but it is unclear what 'equivalent' means. I need some options. My details

Age: 28
Size and shape: generous size 12, pear shaped, smaller up top, smallish waist, though complicated by being 10 weeks pg with no.2 two and stating to become rotund around the tummy
Height: 5'2"
Colouring: mid brown eyes and hair, fair but yellow toned skin
Preferences: well if I am going to have an expensive outfit I want to be able to get some wear out of it so should accommodate a burgeoning tummy. I don't iron so no linen, else I will wear it once and it will sit in my laundry basket till the end of time.

If any of the other winners are around can they tell me what they have picked, I don't want to wear the same thing!

Please help

choosy - don't kill me I think I am having pretty cotton dress in pink - totally different - it doesn't matter, does it?

ruby - my mind moves quite slowly and it took me a while to notice the "measurements" tab - it tells you the measurements of the garment at all the crucial places. (I know, it's not the same tho) - but I would say jersey would be good for you, if you are slim but curvy then it will sort of cling and skim for a lovely fit. You can get this in plain blue for instance.

Ooh, things all seem to be fitting into place. Vezzie go for the silk dress it'll look fab.

Can't wait to see your shoes Apples.

Thedollshouse, you are probably right but a) I'm not passing up a 70 quid dress and b) it's not like I have a wardrobe full of glamorous dresses to choose from

What did you go for Ruby?

I'd better make my choice quick (damn my work life)! So, probably the Favourite Jersey but in blue or brown? And how to dress it up? (Preferably involving Primark priced accessories!

Right, gone for this in Blue spotty. So, how do I dress it up elegantly (and cheaply) and avoiding frumpiness?

maybe think make up Bump? a kind of 40s vibe maybe? put hair up, red lipstick, platformy shoes?

i'm going to go slightly 60s with eyeliner etc as that's where my shoes will be - not only because they are ten years old but also because they have a very faint whiff of The Funk about them (I think)

also i'm going to hit a charity shop for lots of bead strings/crystally things (actually these days charity shops are so ££ i might just borrow from friends)

very happy for everyone to wear the same dress tbh, just as long as I don't have to agonise any more!

Bumperlicious · 24/02/2010 20:12

Just not sure what colours to wear with it. I'm defo going to need some heels if it is a long as I think it is, being a short arse.

hmm, i think scarlet - kind of Dorothy red?

Bumperlicious · 24/02/2010 21:10

That or I was thinking silver?

Blue Spotty is really pretty, Bumpers. Wonder when they'll arrive? Do you think they'll want a picture of us all together in our Bodens?

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/02/2010 08:57

I see there IS going to be a photo but they promise not to sell it to Hello! I demand to stand at the back behind you younger models.

SuSylvester · 25/02/2010 08:58

wonder if JOhnny is going

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/02/2010 11:34

I bet he had an invite, even if he doesn't go!

choosyfloosy · 25/02/2010 11:57

I'll be standing at the back too Apples (or possibly behind a pillar).

SuSylvester · 25/02/2010 12:55

heheh choosy
i dont htink so in that dress

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/02/2010 13:42

at your pillar-plan, Choosy!

To add to my angst the postie has just delivered two pairs of tights I ordered yesterday in hopes of one pair matching The Dress - one is the wrong colour and the other is a horrible colour.

choosyfloosy · 25/02/2010 13:53

maybe the dress could stand there on its own??

or actually dh could wear it

apples, add to itinerary, Tights Shopping 11am to 3pm

here's the nearest Accessorize

SuSylvester · 25/02/2010 14:56

i bet you johnny is there
I HOPE camilla dyson is there feeling smug about being the FIRST viral marketer to use MN big time

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/02/2010 15:48

Thanks for the link Choosy! I may well need it or I think there's an Accessorize at Paddington too where my train comes in.

I was hoping Le Dress might come today so I can start angsting about Le Cardigan to cover of much of it (and me) as possible. But 'twas a tad optimistic methinks. In fact our postie often delivers to any old house, so my Boden could even now be draping the luscious curves of Maureen at Number 3.

CaptainNancy · 25/02/2010 21:28

Just marking place for later... I will prob be angsting over what to wear from now until tues.

nighbynight · 25/02/2010 22:14

Some slight angst here...
I am 42, 5'9", about 3 stone overweight, DD cup, hate low necklines, and hate showing my tree-trunk like legs.
which pretty much rules out everything in the Boden catalogue as far as I can see.

jeans and sacks

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/02/2010 22:41

Nighbynight, I don't think it's meant to be obligatory - more a little 'joke' and a way of giving us something. As Ruby says, could you choose a nice accessory or shoes as your prize/token Boden item, and wear that with something nice you already have?

I'm not glamorous myself and hope at best to look 'quite nice' - or maybe 'fairly invisible'
