permanent blow dry

Has anyone tried this? I have read about the one at Daniel Hersheson in London, but it really is expensive. Is it worth it? Does it look strange when your hair starts growing?

ImSoNotTelling · 14/04/2010 18:54

They sound great! i have been going to a really cheap place for a while - saving money while on 2 mat leaves - but I'm due back at work soon and need to smarten myself up a bit!

helips · 15/04/2010 11:22

Haven't read all the posts but feel I am possibly going against the grain here. I have had it done but am not that impressed with the results. I still need to straighten my hair with irons after I've blow dryed my hair and any drizzle or humidity makes my hair fluff out. The only positive thing is that it takes less time to dry so therefore is quicker to style.

ImSoNotTelling · 15/04/2010 15:26

Hmmmm.

Well that throws the cat amongst the pigeons!

I think I'm going to go for it anyway, I mean it can't do any harm, and if it's no good I won't do it again.

I went today and they did a skin test - the hairdresser was at pains to point out that the treatment doesn't straighten the hair, but is more of a super-conditioning effect.

helips maybe the results depend on the hair type?

helips · 15/04/2010 15:53

Maybe, but the hairdresser said my hair type was perfect for the treatment. It is thick and wavy with a bit of frizz!

By all means have it done, it won't do your hair any harm, in fact it will make it feel in better condition so there's another positive! And who knows, it might work better on your hair. Personally, I won't be having it done again and am looking into having my hair permanantly straightened.

ImSoNotTelling · 15/04/2010 16:06

All interesting isn't it!

Got to wait and see if my skin reacts (48 hours) then will be booking my appointment!

V excited, and I haven't been to a "proper" hairdressers for ages, so even if it doens't work out exactly, it will be no harm done and I'l have had a lovely couple of hours away from teh kids!

My friend has the yuko thing done, and her hair is always perfectly dead straight, she swears by it.

Penjem · 15/04/2010 16:10

Hi, I have this done in Bristol every 12 weeks and its called The Brasiliana. This is actually not a straightening treatment but it de-frizzes your hair and has been a godsend. There is another treatment which straightens your hair but I have not tried that as I like my wavy hair, just not with the frizziness I normally have!

ImSoNotTelling · 15/04/2010 16:12

So am I going to end up with hair which is curly in some places, wavy in others, and straight in others, and a right mess, but delightfully frizz free?

Have to wait and see I guess...

tkband3 · 15/04/2010 20:40

ImSoNotTelling, with the treatment, I could go out having just blowdried my hair (with just a hairdryer, no fancy hairbrush tricks ), without it, I wouldn't dream of it . But I do still straighten my hair, because that's how I prefer it. The main difference is that the style then lasts until I wash my hair again - without the treatment, I have to at least straighten it again and usually end up wearing it up within 2 days.

Are you going to Stripes? They didn't do a skin test on me, but then I suppose I've been having my hair coloured there for ages, so they figured I didn't need it.

ImSoNotTelling · 17/04/2010 09:07

Yes am going to stripes - I guess teh skin test is because i haven't been before.

Can book appt later as no reaction to the test!

Also thinking about getting hair restyled - but maybe I'm getting carried away and one thing at a time would be better!

ImSoNotTelling · 17/04/2010 11:33

Oooh am going today!

And going to get fringe cut in!

Have had long hair which is one length and centre parting since I was 14 but suddenly realised that style is not quite so forgiving when you start getting on a bit...

tkband3 · 17/04/2010 13:33

I had a fringe cut in about 2 years ago - it was cheaper than botox . What time are you going? Might have to stroll past Stripes and see if I can work out which one is you .

ImSoNotTelling · 17/04/2010 17:22

Well I've done it! You probably didn't see me - I was near the back. Am blonde and was rather red in the face!

She wouldn't do a fringe due to hair being determined to have a centre parting - she said it wouldn't stay put

Hair looks very straight and a bit odd so far will update when I can wash it on tues!

They were v nice at the hairdresser though, thanks for teh recommendation

aarghhelp · 17/04/2010 17:35

Any recommendations for East Dorset/South West Hampshire?

It feels a bit weird until you wash it. I found it hard to remember not to put it behind my ears or shove my sunglasses up on my head. I ran the straighteners over mine each morning when I woke up, just until I'd had it washed again. But when it's washed again (are you going back to Stripes for them to do a wash and blow dry for you?) it'll feel so soft and lovely....

Have been in garden all afternoon, so didn't stroll past Stripes, but glad they were nice and hope it works .

ImSoNotTelling · 17/04/2010 17:48

No I'm not going back to have it washed and dried - she didn't mention it - but I have the shampoo and conditioner.

I have a keeping in touch day at work Mon and was hoping to swan in looking like a new woman, in fact I'm going to wander in looking like a greaseball!

hope it looks good when i wash it out, I think I'm experiencing disappointment about teh fringe situation!

tkband3 · 17/04/2010 18:42

It should be fine for your meeting on Monday - it might feel greasy, but I had more compliments in the three days before it was washed out than I did afterwards . I thought a wash and blow dry was part of the deal - it has been both times I've had it done there...might be worth phoning and asking them - if you can be bothered and want to go back there .

ImSoNotTelling · 17/04/2010 18:52

I expect that as a regular you get more for your money IYKWIM.

No worries it'll be fine

ImSoNotTelling · 19/04/2010 13:23

Well it looks a lot better today I think the treatment is soaking in.

So fine for work!

Tomorrow is the "big reveal" when I wash it...

Sim17 · 19/04/2010 21:00

Ive been doing the Japanese straightening treatment for many years now, but want to give my hair a break. Does the permanent blow dry work on very curly hair? I know it won't straighten completely like the Japanese straightening, but is it worth it for curly hair? Or does it work on only semi wavy hair...I was thinking of going to Daniel Hersheson for a consultation....

Please let me know if you have curly hair and have had a positive experience with this treatment!

ImSoNotTelling · 20/04/2010 19:38

The hairdresser told me that it's not a straightening thing at all, but a super conditioning thing which de-frizzes and makes it much easier to style. So tames it rather than straightens it.

Anyway I'm going to wait until DD1 drops off then go and wash it so will post results later

SunMum · 11/05/2010 10:21

Hi ImSoNotTelling, how did the treatment go? I was thinking of having it done....

Thanks

worriermum · 11/05/2010 16:01

I'mSoNotTelling ...TELL, TELL! What's your verdict?

I have super curly hair with frizz thrown in. Would the Brazilian thingy work for me? I would love the just-blowdryed-straight-look if possible. Will my hair still be very curly but without the frizz? Or will there be less curl?

gleegeekgleek · 24/05/2010 22:52

Resurrecting the thread as wondering what to do with mine next.

I like Yuko but it's a bit too straight, don't get on with the Brazilian thingy - just makes my hair greasy and it didn't last.

Any ideas?

MagalyZz · 09/06/2010 18:00

So Coldbunny and I'msonottelling your verdicts now that the thread is a few weeks old...
