Has anyone tried this? I have read about the one at Daniel Hersheson in London, but it really is expensive. Is it worth it? Does it look strange when your hair starts growing?

Ooh, glad you went to Brooks and Brooks ColdBunny. I should get a commission! You're the second person who's gone there on my recommendation

I'm thinking of getting the Yuko thing now. I've done the permanent blowdry twice and it does improve the manageability of my hair but I'm not sure if it's enough of an improvement to warrant that amount of money. I've also noticed a lot of split ends but maybe that's just a coincidence.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 30/03/2010 10:03

So what's the Yuko thing?

ColdBunny · 30/03/2010 20:40

Hi RamblingRosa. You certainly should get commission, or at least a few freebies. :-) I asked Valerie, the lady at Brooks and Brooks, about the Yuko system. She explained how it works and I was not impressed. Also my colleague had it done and her hair looks like straw a few weeks down the line.

wow sounds too good to be true! my hair just kinks out in all the wrong places but it isnt curly at all. this would be great but i just wonder if it does any damage long term.

notjustapuppymum · 31/03/2010 19:07

I've had Yuko done 6 times and it's never damaged my hair. It's not the treatment that will cause damage, it's the skill (of lack thereof) of the technician doing the treatment.

My hair is always absolutely amazing soft and silky afterwards and so manageable.

I am liking the sound of this blow dry though as it's more than half the price...

mummee09v · 31/03/2010 19:40

i had yuko done about 7 years ago when it was first available over here. sounded amazing but i was very disappointed, after a few weeks my hair was like straw. and i still had to straighten it anyway!

eshermummy · 31/03/2010 19:57

Can I just ask, do you think this would work on very fine, dead straight hair?
I have jaw length dead straight, very fine hair which basically only ever looks good after it's been blown at the salon as am a bit rubbish at doing it myself. I normally have it blow dryed with a round brush so the ends curl under a bit and lots of volume at the crown - do you think a permanent blowdry would work to replicate this effect?

tkband3 · 31/03/2010 20:03

I had this done (the Global treatment) last August and it lasted a good 3-4 months. Even survived a fortnight of being blown about on the beach in Cornwall - I was amazed at how well it worked on my hair, which is not curly, but wavy and very prone to frizz.

I've just had it done for the second time and I'm delighted again. My local salon (in Southgate, North London) charged me £100, although I think it's normally £110. That includes a wash and blow-dry 3-4 days after the treatment. The shampoo and conditioner are £15 each.

bethyrose · 31/03/2010 20:06

I had Yuko done 4 months ago on my very frizzy, uncontrollable, nightmare hair.

It is one of the best things I have ever done (shallow, moi?) as I no longer have to spend forever straightening it to make it look decent, or tying it back in a ponytail because it look such a sight. All I do now is wash and condition it, then blast it with the hairdryer and it looks like 'normal' hair.....lovely and straight and silky smooth without a hint of frizz. Previously, if I had done this I would have ended up with a puff ball of hair.

It cost £170 at a salon in Kingston Upon Thames (included a hair cut). Before I had it done I was worried it would be a complete disaster and my hair would fall out, but my only regret is that I don't do it years ago.

Starting to get a bit of my natural hair growing out at the roots now so I may need to get it done again sometime soon.

blametheparents · 31/03/2010 20:16

I NEED to find a salon near me to have this done (and I need to hide the receipt from DH - lol!)

Cicatrice · 31/03/2010 20:19

I'm having it done tommorrow!

A little bit worried that it may not be worth it but I'll let you know how I get on.

mummee09v · 31/03/2010 20:29

i wonder why my yuko was so shit?? perhaps it works better on some hair types than others...?

cicatrice, are u having yuko or the permanent blow dry? either way - let us know how it goes, hope it goes well!

RamblingRosa · 31/03/2010 21:30

Hmm, I still can't decide if I should have the permanent blow dry done again or if it's not worth it. My hair definitely looks better than it used to but I still have to blow dry/straighten it for it to look half decent.

I'm v tempted by Yuko. I saw an ad for a salon in Hampstead that does it on the cheap if you have a trainee do it. I'm tempted!

Cicatrice · 05/04/2010 11:40

I had the Coppola Style Saviour done on Thursday - semi permanent blow dry, not Yuko. It was very straight when just done and actually looked really skanky by Sunday. (Not allowed to wash it for 3 days)

I have washed it and it looks as though I had blow dryed it properly and straightened it. It still actually looks a little lank but I thinkg that will wear off.

ImSoNotTelling · 05/04/2010 11:58

tkband3 which salon in southgate did you go to?

Also - about yuko - I have a friend who has been having this done for about 5 years and she loves it - her hair always looks straight and neat and freshly styled...

Although it is possible that it is always freshly styled she is better at that stuff than me!

So this brazilian blowdry thing is top-fab for a lazy arse with long hair which is curly in some places, wavy in others and more of less straight in others?

kalas · 05/04/2010 21:03

bethyrose would you recommend the salon in Kingston? Can you tell it's name and who the stylist was? I'm tempted but cannot travel to London for it.

minibmw2010 · 05/04/2010 21:23

I haven't had the Brazilian Permanent Blow Dry but I have had both the Yukos and another Japanese version called IHR (Yukos is Japanese too). I have the IHR done once a year (my hair is very long and very thick) on the regrowth and it costs about £300 or so. I have it done at a salon in Covent Garden called Color Nation and they are great, very friendly and helpful. I didn't rate the Yukos at all, it wasn't strong enough for my hair, but the IHR is great. The only downside is that it never grows out, literally ... unless you get your hair cut off it will stay in your hair and you'll need your regrowth/roots done as soon as it stars to annoy you (for me, that's once a year). It does make my hair much more managable though. The salon I go to also does the Brazillian blow dry.

BoffinMum · 05/04/2010 21:35

I read this as having some sort of blow dry on your pubic hair (because of the Brazilian thing). I was amazed what new treatments were out there!

ImSoNotTelling · 05/04/2010 21:59

No you didn't read it wrong boffin, go along to your hair stylist tomorrow and ask them about blowdrying the nethers, they won't be at all surprised I promise...

BoffinMum · 06/04/2010 22:46

Make it at home for nothing, as they day. Or use the hand dryer at work to help (a la Mr Bean).

BoffinMum · 06/04/2010 22:47

Will I have to sit back to front on the chair and drape my legs elegantly either wide of the stylist's hips so they can wash and condition said locks?

BoffinMum · 06/04/2010 22:48

What will I say if they offer me a head massage??????????

tkband3 · 14/04/2010 17:53

ImSoNotTelling, so sorry I haven't been back - I've been away, and when I looked at the thread, I didn't see your previous post, just the more recent ones .

I went to Stripes on Southgate Green - Maria or Litsa do the treatment (I had Litsa this time and it's absolutely fab. Definitely sounds like it would work on your hair - I am also a lazy arse with long hair with a bit of a wave .

ImSoNotTelling · 14/04/2010 18:42

Ooh thanks tk, sorry to stalk you like that but a recommendation at that price was too much to let go!

I have just booked for a cut somewhere else but they were not v friendly on the phone - maybe i will cancel there and book the works up with your place!

Thanks again, will update if I book and again if I get it done

tkband3 · 14/04/2010 18:51

No worries at all - sorry I missed you in the first place. They're always v. friendly at Stripes - one of those places where I'm never embarrassed to sit and read a magazine while they do my hair, if I'm not feeling sociable, or happy to chat if you want to. I took my 3 girls in for a wash and blow dry for a birthday treat and they did their nails while they waited too - they had a great time .
