I could have it customised with "2010 - the year of living frugally"

bunnymother · 08/01/2010 16:43

Don't think you really want to know my answer...

FranSanDisco · 08/01/2010 16:45

Bloody hell £30 odd quid for a diary! Hardly frugal.

FlightAttendant · 08/01/2010 16:47

Sorry, it is quite dull. I think you need to go in WH Smiths and get one of theirs. Which are also dull but

look why do we have this compulsion to spend too much money on something that is no different to the cheaper version? It's not going to be better than the WHS one. It's just they have a different ambience to their company. So feel justified in ripping you off

FranSanDisco · 08/01/2010 16:51

Bloody mental site - a wardrobe book for £85.00. WTF is a wardrobe book. No wonder my life is meaningless and shallow when I don't own half this stuff.

FimBOW · 08/01/2010 16:52

Here look almost half the price!

cookielove · 08/01/2010 16:59

here

or here

i was gonna say buy it but then i saw the price, it really is not worth it

woowa · 08/01/2010 17:02

If you really need a leather bound diary, buy a beautiful filofax, then it's a one-off ripoff and you just refill it each year. And you get rulers and pockets and all sorts of stuff for them. Much more fun!

LetThemEatCake · 08/01/2010 17:03

Kikki James one looks good. Bit smaller than I wanted but am sure I can adapt my scrawl handwriting accordingly

thanks!!

btw, I don't think that £30 is all that much to spend on something that you will use every single day for 358 days. And when you have to write grim things down like jabs, work deadlines and visits from in laws, why not do it in something that gives you pleasure??

Buy it. I love a leather diary - you use it every day for a year, so why not have an nice one? DH buys my one from Smythson every year, before I had one I didn't see the point, but now I wouldn't be without one. I think they do pink, too...

FlightAttendant · 08/01/2010 17:06

I'm sorry but I don't buy those justifications.

They are exactly the same as mine used to be when I was serially overspending!

If you do have money to throw away, then for sure - go for it. But I don't think you would be asking us if you weren't using it as a displacement activity.

JMO!

wonderingwondering · 08/01/2010 17:08

FA, I agree. When we haven't had so much spare, I had a 99p diary from the local bit & bobs shop! But if you can afford it, a good diary is a nice thing to have.

LetThemEatCake · 08/01/2010 17:10

what is a displacement activity?

OP posts:
FlightAttendant · 08/01/2010 17:16

It's when you are using spending money, or the focus on having 'quality' or expensive items as a distraction from something you really ought to be thinking about, an inner emptiness, or worrying etc etc

I have used it as a distraction from paying off my overdraft...

sowhatitsonlysnow · 08/01/2010 17:18

I think it's lovely but I have become a fan of Molekin

sowhatitsonlysnow · 08/01/2010 17:19

Moleskin even

MillyR · 08/01/2010 17:19

Did you originally see this diary in the 'Not on the High Street' catalogue? It is very enticing and I have managed to resist the 'ticket to ride' travel pass holder in brown leather from the same diary people.

I am sure you can find a nice, pink diary from somewhere else for less. It is really only the personalisation that makes them appealing. So unless you have an exceptionally inspirational saying to go on the front, you cannot justify it.

I sympathise. I love pink and stationery.

MillyR · 08/01/2010 17:22

I agree with sowhat. I will buy a molskine one; the quality of the paper is really good. I think you have to consider them to be the luxury end of the diary market, and anything beyond them is just throwing money away on nonsense.

catastrojb · 08/01/2010 17:24

it's nice, but i personally love my dodo pads here. no-one bought me one for christmas this year - might have to hunt one out myself as blackberry diary is not the same...

LetThemEatCake · 08/01/2010 17:24

FA - yes, I am worried about something - about how I am going to organise myself this year!!

VerityBrulee · 08/01/2010 17:28

This is the kind of thing I don't mind splurging on. You'll use it a lot and enjoy it. I was even tempted to sell something to buy an Erdem Smythson one which is divine. I like a bigger diary for random thoughts, lists and doodles.

FlightAttendant · 08/01/2010 17:33

I agree it is important sometimes to have the kind of paper/format you can write on happily...I hate some papers or types of book, and my writing is important to me, so I will avoid certain diaries...but can't justify a proper one this year, so bought a nice notebook instead. When it comes to the crunch I will actually write on anything...this came to light unfortunately the other week when my father reticently handed me a Bob the Builder book he had been reading to ds, saying 'er - Ithink there are some of your notes in the back of this...'

Thank feck it was about how much of an arse exp was, not how small his cock was

MrsSeanBean · 08/01/2010 17:46

LTEC, I think it's lovely and I can understand the temptation. I coveted this but managed to resist and as we are now into 2010 (and no indication of reductions there!) I hope think I will continue to do so.

missismac · 08/01/2010 17:57

Another vote for Moleskin here, they do a lovely red one with all sorts of additional bits for helping with organisation. I like the one with the week on the left side of the page & the right side free for notes. Half the price of the OP's one & fit's beautifully in my handbag. I'd post a link if I knew how to do it!

Durrrr. . . .

LetThemEatCake · 08/01/2010 17:57

Oh I love Smythson but really can't. can't go there.

Random musings, jotted notes and doodles are, for various reasons, very important to me. Thanks for reminding me of this VB. And 2010 is going to be quite a significant year. I say I go for the Noble.
