Fake Monsoon girls dresses? Can someone advise?

I got a similar dress to this on ebay, only in brown. It arrived today and I'm a little suspicious.

I can't find this dress online in Monsoon and it just doesn't seem to have the same quality. dd tried it on and it seems really small, it's fitted just under where she would have a bust and then sticks out awkwardly, almost like it should be on a 5yo. The sleeves I presume are 3/4. It does say for 9/10y however which should be fine for dd as she's very slight.

The label is also very small for Monsoon.

What do you think? Should I say anything? Send it back?

Do you know where your closest store is?

Could you give them a call and explain you cna't get through to head office about it?

RhubarbLikesAnyOldFucker · 03/12/2009 13:45

Right, phoned head office and they were very very unhelpful.

Basically said that since I purchased it from ebay there was nothing they could do to help, that was a risk I chose to take when I purchase from ebay.

They wouldn't even let me know if they recognised the dress, said they only dealt with people who had bought from a Monsoon outlet.

They weren't even interested that someone was potentially selling fakes on the internet. They said that was my problem.

they really don't give a monkeys as to whether or not someone is damaging their brand name by selling sub quality clothing with their labelling on? Good Heavens what a crap attitude to have?

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/12/2009 16:09

A shocking attitude from a major brand like Monsoon. I suggest a MN-esque email to the CEO.

However, it doesn't solve your problem, Rhubarb. I think you should call the seller's bluff, admittedly it was only 6.50 as she says, but it's the principle, that's what's at stake here. Suggest you are going to report her to eBay/paypal/any other internet bigwhigs, you will return the dress because it doesn't fit and you expect a full refund.

Gwan, fight, fight, I dare ya.

Update:

She's offered a partial refund and will only refund my postage if the dress is found to be faulty.

She says it is 100% genuine and has sent me links to the very same dress being sold by another seller on ebay as a Monsoon dress. I escalated the ebay returns request into a paypal dispute when I didn't hear from her and left bad feedback so now I think she's a bit mad.

Looking at the other Monsoon listings she's emailed me, it does appear that the dress could be genuine.

I've sent her photos of dd in the dress to show how small it is around the top and I've also copied and pasted some comments from this thread so she knows why I thought it was a fake.

I now don't know what to think. It has no washing label on the underskirt or dress number that most Monsoon stock have, just a washing sticker stuck near the top label. But with no further help from Monsoon, what can I do? I'll be a fiver out of pocket. Not much to her perhaps, but quite a lot to me.

Rhubarb, have you checked the sizes on the Monsoon website? I mean, I know that they come up small (have experienced this myself) but you are describing such a big difference in size that it seems it couldn't be genuine.

The size guide here has the age 9-10 measurements and the younger sizes as well so that should give you some idea.

Sounds to me that if it's not a fake, it's some sort of second that she is stitching labels onto.

What are the keywords for the other listings?
