Dressing Gowns that make you look all right

I could do with a new dressing gown as I got my current one for going into hospital to have dd1 (over 13 years ago).

I only wear it after baths and showers and I hardly ever wear it downstairs except on Christmas morning sometimes.

Where would you look for a lightweight, almost attractive dressing gown?

not possible

in a dressing gown, you can only look like a flump

sorry

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 25/11/2009 17:24

the only attractive ones are too flimsy to be any use as a dressing gown. i have a pretty one i wear in teh summer. it was from tk max

cocolepew · 25/11/2009 17:24

I want a dressing gown that buttons, not ties. It has to be long and not a granny quilted type. Ignore pointy and find one for me instead. Thanks

One that looks like a cardigan - the Boden one is lovely (I'm wearing it now) and Celtic Sheepskin have a divine one called their cable cardigan but it's sold out.

otherwise the White Company have a cashmere one that my friend is getting for Christmas - its £249 but is divine obviously.

I've got a nice Boden one. Dan druff reccied it in the Summer Sale.

pointydogg · 25/11/2009 17:25

That is very negative of you, mp, and I am sure you will stand corrected. You wait and see.

Yes, you want to get away from the dressing gown 'look' - no terry towelling or giant velvet hoods ( at memory of Next one).

pointydogg · 25/11/2009 17:26

Can anyone link to a pic?

I don't want a warm one because I hardly ever wear it. Just a nice cover up.

celtic sheepskin as in Voles?

pointydogg · 25/11/2009 17:27

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 25/11/2009 17:28

boden one

cornsilkwearscorsets · 25/11/2009 17:28

Not a stunna but nice enough here

cornsilkwearscorsets · 25/11/2009 17:29

Laurie you have faster fingers.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 25/11/2009 17:29

celtic sheepskin

pointydogg · 25/11/2009 17:30

I don't think woollen would suit.It would look sloppy on me and would be too warm in summer.

expensive

faustina · 25/11/2009 17:30

well I like my Toast one, but it is definitely a dressing gown and not a cardigan thing. they have a lovely one with a print on it this winter. Not towelling - I have one flannel and one velvet and they're both lovely

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 25/11/2009 17:30

cashmere

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 25/11/2009 17:31

a nice velvet one

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 25/11/2009 17:31

nice

pointydogg · 25/11/2009 17:32

I quite like the blue beautiful kimono. And not half as expensive as celtic sheep's finest.

I wouldn't want to spend more than £45.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 25/11/2009 17:32

you don't wear the same dressing gown winter and summer.

You put the winter away with some lavender pouches and get out a think cotton kimono type for summer

GrimmaTheNome · 25/11/2009 17:33

This is for pointy, won't suit Coco as it ties and doesn't button: A Japanese kimono-type thing.(Technically may be a Happi coat I think). My DH brought me back some from Japan, lovely embroidery, one is quite long and lined so reasonably warm but not bulky, the others are shorter.

Avoid pure silk if you want to do anything other than lounge in it though, I've got one that can't even tolerate cold water so no good when you're damp.
