Is this dress boring or nice?

I like it.

I've stared and stared at it. I like neither the fabric nor the cut, the colour or the creases. The one redeeming feature I can find is I presume that you can't see it in the dark. But then the image of it is burned onto your retina so it's lose lose.

wonderingwondering · 18/11/2009 19:57

Def not black opaques. I think, anyway. And I'd be wary of opaques with a silk dress, might be too heavy next to the silky fabric. And the hoops are fine for winter.

Will be back with bangle/necklance thoughts - was thinking bronze/burnished gold accessories.

More dinner stirring. (Am not really having egg and chips while sitting here in a housecoat, I promise).

ahundredtimes · 18/11/2009 19:58

You don't like the cut? I'm telling you it'll look amazing on. It really will.

But

I now think it's a summer dress, and if you wear with tights you'll have that weird summer dress with tights look going down.

Let's find something else - but not in velvet

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:59

So glossy tights then? Not bare legs surely?

CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 20:00

Yes yes it is def a summer dress, think of someone like Cameron Diaz, all lithe. golden and leggy.

You do look like Cameron don;t you corny?

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:00

I am also worried it's a summer dress.

CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 20:00

Yes what is she cooking for gods sake The Magic Porridge Pot?

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:00

Er yes course I do Cybil

CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 20:01

What david Cameron

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:02

Not that far off.

Complicated pasta sauce with ill-advised fresh tomatoes, I have removed my fingerprints taking the skins off.

But I digress.

Sheer tights (bare legs also a no-no after mid-Sept). Or flesh coloured fishnets. But you seem to be less keen on the dress now? I think it is OK for winter, it isn't silk, it is silk jersey so will be a bit heavier and have a bit of stretch. I wear my silk jersey all year round, although the short sleeves make this dress a bit evening only for winter.

But no velvet, for god's sake, unless you are 65 and shopping in Per Una.

momijigari · 18/11/2009 20:06

patterned too stiff/short?

evening dress

wrap dress

Comes in a golden brown can be worn with/out belt - looks easy to wear.

CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 20:08

Gah, no bare legs at this time of year?

I am orf to a ball soon and I am haivng bare leg (tanned) (and maybe even shaved) I LOATHE flesh coloured tights of any description.

ahundredtimes · 18/11/2009 20:09

(you have to leave toms in hot water to get the skins off - they just wrinkle and fall off to your touch then)

wonderingwondering · 18/11/2009 20:09

I stil prefer the DvF - the first two dresses are a bit younger, I think. The last one is quite short, do you think?

wonderingwondering · 18/11/2009 20:11

[Was the hot water that did it, stubborn skins!]

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:11

Haven't seen that Isabella Oliver site before. I love the red dress but don't think the style is really me. Like the black dress but may be too short.
I haven't ruled out the dvf. Wondering what shoes would you wear with it?

OP posts:
wonderingwondering · 18/11/2009 20:12

Shiny, patent, high court shoes - lots about at the moment. I shall try to find an example.

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:14

x post wondering! I think we like the same things. We both liked that orange dress from matches in Summer and were mocked by the rest of MN.

But they may not be to everyone's taste. But they could look quite funky and de-frump the dress, if that is what you are worried about?

wonderingwondering · 18/11/2009 20:15

I know, I was the wrong shape for the orange lurex, but it was a nice dress, lovely fabric

momijigari · 18/11/2009 20:16

too casual?

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:16

Should I be wearing pointy or round toes though?

OP posts:
cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 20:17

even the model looks scared of that one momijigari!

Or if the snake skin is scaring the horses, you might get away with burgundy -

But I prefer the bronze, picks up the gold hoops.
