I like it.

Hmm. Am worried about the 'wear with a sexy tan' thing - maybe it's not a winter dress

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:41

Wondering wondering needs to show me the bangles.

Although the mannequin is wearing opaques...

I just went off to stir my dinner, not abandoning the thread . I do like it.

And you can wear brown for evening, much more elegant than black for a low key drinks/dinner... black better for disco/young thing evenings. Depends what you have in mind.

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:44

I am not a young thing. I am thinking low key really. Is it summery though?

CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 19:45

After due thought I reckon it DOES look better on the mannequin.

BUT look how creased it is in the main picture! Imagine arriving at a party, all crumpled like a weary Brown Owl.

wonderingwondering · 18/11/2009 19:45

They often put mannequin in opaques on Matches. You'd need sheer or flesh-coloured fishnets. And the 'wear witha tan' thing is a staple descriptor on there too, meant to get you thinking about stepping off a yacht in St Tropez. But tights and a warm coat would do. It is quite a wintery dress, I think.

Will stir dinner again and be back.

ahundredtimes · 18/11/2009 19:46

We need to see the bangles wondering wondering Show us your bangle thoughts. Agree re brown (though still can't quite lose love of black)

Anyway - what can she wear with it?

Also are you going to wear it as is cs- will you be cold? I don't think you can wear with anything on top.

momijigari · 18/11/2009 19:46

I don't think brown is always boring, and if it really suited you, (the colour not the dress) then it would be worth looking at other stuff in brown..... but you would have to wear bright colours with it, like red or purple or bright green! It isn't really a party dress colour, deep velvety blue, purples, greens, reds and black are all good party dress colours.

What is your colouring - hair, eyes, etc. ?

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:46

Yes it is creased. I don't care after a few G& Ts.

What is it with velvet and parties? I don't understand that, why does everyone suddenly start to wear velvet - or alternatively tops with beading - at winter parties? I might need to do a thread.

momijigari · 18/11/2009 19:48

Seemingly tans are very Jordan, and to be avoided now.... if you believe the fashionistas.

ahundredtimes · 18/11/2009 19:49

That gold hoop is a little on the summery side, everything else fine. IMO.

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:49

I was thinking black opaques and shoes which I will need to buy I think. I don't think it will go with a shrug 'cos of the sleeves. I suit brown/bronzey colours in summer - am fair/blue eyes. Not sure about my current washed out state though.

OP posts:
RnB · 18/11/2009 19:50

I like it

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:50

Yeah I wasn't sure about the hoop...

OP posts:
CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 19:50

Hmm, brown dress black opaques? What is the official Mumsnet Ruling on that?

ShowOfHands · 18/11/2009 19:50

It's the sort of dress a woman of a certain age wears when she's missed the works Christmas dinner but gone for drinks on an empty stomach afterwards anyway, starts on the gin- which turns out to be a bit of a mascara thinner- and makes an ill-advised pass at the boss who happens to be wearing a horrid shiny suit and the two nasty fabrics create a horrible crackle as the sound effect to their social suicide. She is then sick on a pot plant.

HTH.

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:50

Another fan!

OP posts:
momijigari · 18/11/2009 19:51

..because velvet is supposedly in fashion, and it is wintery, would be too warm to wear in summer.

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:51

Do you know me showofhands?

OP posts:
CybilLiberty · 18/11/2009 19:51

I wear velvet hot pants in the summer.

Doesn't everyone?

ahundredtimes · 18/11/2009 19:52

And sounds like SoH is a fan too!

Hmm. I'm not happy about black opaques tbh. I don't think that'll work.

I'm worried now. Talk of tans, the gold hoop, the effortlessly cool summer dress schtick.

ahundredtimes · 18/11/2009 19:54

lol Cybill.

Yes but but but but, they don't wear velvet in the spring do they? Why not. Like early spring, when it's cold, people don't reach for their red velvet shirts etc. It's weird. I think it's something to do with the Victorians. They have a lot to account for imo

cornsilkwearscorsets · 18/11/2009 19:54

Yes black opaques won't work. What was I thinking?
