What do you wear on Christmas Day?

For the first time in my life I am looking forward to Christmas with unbridled excitement. Was doing some online browsing earlier & am wondering what to wear on Christmas Day. We'll be at home, make take a stroll, have guests for brunch & lunch at home with dd & dp (I'll be cooking)

I am going to order us all some new pjs for Christmas Eve but want to feel sparkly on Christmas Day.

I liked this on Claudia W on tv last night but am not sure about material.

What will you wear?

Goober · 15/11/2009 19:39

I will be mostly wearing Baileys.

Tortington · 15/11/2009 19:39

dh and i are getting santa suits. then we are going to go to the twins rooms (they are 16) and bounce on their beds at 6am saying "can we open the presents yet? can we open the presents yet? can we open the presents yet? can we open the presents yet?"

Tortington · 15/11/2009 19:40

i'm with goober, baileys over ice - OMG bring on Xmas

JANEITEisntErudite · 15/11/2009 19:41

Ooh I like that Boden one. The Gap one was a bit like that but cheaper.

Tortington · 15/11/2009 19:41

the dress in the op is fking awful sorry

Tortington · 15/11/2009 19:44

nice boots

Jedward took my turn on the weekly rota cooking for 9 at 12/13yo & do Sunday lunch for 12 once a month. Christmas dinner for 3 will not make me break a sweat .

Each to their own but I like to wear something nice at Christmas (& most other days too).

The dressing gown idea is lovely. There was a recent thread about dressing gowns & I think the Boden and velvety White Co ones won (though steer clear of the WC towelling one)

Jedward · 15/11/2009 19:59

lol "I like to wear nice things"

oh no well we like to wear sackcloth

purplepeony · 15/11/2009 20:03

Usually lounge/yoga type trousers and a T shirt/scruffy top as I'm cooking.

monkeysmama · 15/11/2009 20:12

I know lots of lovely people on S&B who enjoy looking nice . I must've misread your posts about your family being suspicious if you dressed up and the sweating on knees while wearing a tool belt etc. Sorry.

OP posts:
hormonesnomore · 15/11/2009 20:13

I may wear this

monkeysmama · 15/11/2009 20:15

Go for it Hormones - I also love the idea of mum and dad dressed as Santas jumping on the bed (well, not my mum and dad...)

I will be getting dressed up in something new. We're having Xmas day with the same friends we had it with last year and, while I was dressed down in jeans and a t-shirt, my good friend looked amazing in a lbd. Will be making a big effort this year.

salvolatile · 15/11/2009 20:55

wonderbra I have seen the Hush cardigown and it's gorgeous, and probably a real morale booster as well . I wouldn't worry abut the wool wash if she has a machine with that cycle as she will probably put quite a lot of baby stuff on a gentle cycle too.

CDMforever · 15/11/2009 20:55

Have had a major splurge at Matalan and bought some very gorgeous bits for not much spendage. Will probably wear a silvery woollen dress, which sounds awful but is lush. It is also very very stretchy which will allow for another 324 after eights. God I can't wait.

Jedward · 15/11/2009 21:01

rofl! i am nto SERIOUS abotu the tool belt you twit!!

Juillet · 15/11/2009 21:17

I want a tool belt.

I don't dress up any more. I never have actually felt comfortable looking kind of delicate and ornamental, it hurts being looked at iygwim...weird I know.

I have a stakc of beautiful dresses in my cupboard but can't bring myself to wear them.

so will be wearing the usual at Christmas...jeans,or tights with normal frock or whatever. I just can't DO it.

jemart · 15/11/2009 21:42

I may yet splurge on a new outfit, but if I am v. good and just pick from existing clothes will probably go for black lace dress and some sparkly jewellery.

DitaVonCheese · 15/11/2009 21:42

Pjs first thing, normal stuff/jeans most of the day and then my family has a tradition of getting stupidly dressed up for dinner in the evening just for fun

Wonderbra I am 33 but have had about five dressing gowns for the past few years and am constantly fending off more (including a pink zebra print one that my granny has tried to give me twice now). Tbh I find them a pain these days and hardly ever wear them (sleeves too long for washing up, wrap style too revealing when sitting down if you sleep in the nude) but love the Boden one, which is very like the M&S cardie I am currently sporting one. Also staying at my mum's this week and she has a fleece one from Hawkshead which is not in the least sexy but is very warm.

Angelina shred them and stir fry with cubed bacon/pancetta - this made my male cousins ask for seconds

LetThemEatCake · 15/11/2009 21:43

oooh, I like this thread, mm. Less keen on some of the unnecessary digs and jibes. Where;s your festive spirit Jedward? the OP is one of those rare creatures who can do practical stuff prettily. Don't be so

anyway .. I would quite like to wear my raspberry Toast Fedosia dress with either chocolate boots & tights or plum tights and slouchy plummy boots

BUT

there is a little goblin in me, egging me on to wear my denim mini over leggings and black Ash high-tops, with my Blondie "rip her to shreds" tee. Just because we have to spend it with my in-laws, it brings out my perverse side. Not that it's such an 'out-there' choice, but it would totally offend their upper-middle-class festive sensibilities

crumpetsolo · 15/11/2009 22:27

Wonderbra - I wish you were my mother-in-law! The Cardigown is lovely, I've wanted one for ages but can never justify spending that much on a dressing gown ;o) I imagine I will be getting socks again.

heartofgold · 15/11/2009 22:29

hands up another unashamed dresser upper over here. i've always managed to do full lunch with trimmings plus pressies, batteries etc. in reasonably dressy dress and a bit of makeup and usually nice undies too (decent undies one of my favourite things). never bother with any kind of shoes though. i enjoy dressing up, i love xmas, why wouldn't i want to combine the two?

as an aside i'm the photographer in the family and xmas day is one of the rare occasions i might actually feature in some of the pix so there's another reason not to hang out all day in my dressing gown (aside from trailing the sleeves in the gravy)

woozlet · 15/11/2009 22:36

OP - I like that dress.

I'm thinking of getting this

I always wear something black and sparkly - have done since I was a teenager!

borderslass · 15/11/2009 22:55

pj's this year hubby always works and i'm taking my mum down to Cheshire to my aunty who's just lost her husband 2 weeks ago,3 days before christmas so its the first time in 3 years it will just be me and the young uns, older one is also going away christmas night.

MrsMerryHenry · 15/11/2009 22:56

Flippin 'eck, do people actually buy new outfits to wear in front of their families on Xmas Day?

I usually make a bit more effort than usual, but would never go out and buy something unless I had a party to go to and really, truly had nothing to wear.
