To complement this thread and to be looked at with scorn and derision in a few years' time when we realise how deluded we all were.

Converse.

TrillianAstra · 13/11/2009 15:50

T-shirts/vest tops that are long and reach down to your hips, not your waist.

I am reluctant to advertise anything I would wear lest the baying mob fashion pack descend with "you don't wear that do you?" so I will lurk and then leap in about ten posts down to agree with everyone else.

NorkilyChallenged · 13/11/2009 15:56

converse are definitely not a noughties thing though

TrillianAstra · 13/11/2009 15:57

Post 5 and the first complaint

I'm a living cliche, but I still like the skinny (slightly skinny) trousers and flat shoes combo.

Those Chloe-like white tunics

Francasaysrelax · 13/11/2009 16:02

Oh sorry did you mean the last ten yrs or the 90s?

NorkilyChallenged · 13/11/2009 16:03

Sorry Trillian

But it's not a noughties thing if you've been wearing them since you were a sixth-former and you're apparently already middle-aged

Francasaysrelax · 13/11/2009 16:04

90s:

  • Helmut Lang trousers
  • New Balance trainers
TsarChasm · 13/11/2009 16:06

I like the layering of light-weight fabrics. And that non matchy look that we have now. It's more interesting (and it means I can chuck any old thing on - within reason).

TrillianAstra · 13/11/2009 16:07

You were obviously ahead of trend Norkily!

Peacoats
Slim trousers
cashmere jumpers and trackie bottoms
Footless tights worn with elegant shoes and dress
Floral tea dress with fryes
pashminas
converse
layered fine knit t shirts
skinny scarves
bare make up and natural hair
beanie hats

cocolepew · 13/11/2009 16:10

Norkily they went out of fashion but are now back in. There was a period of your life when you were achingly unhip.

Georgimama · 13/11/2009 16:14

ballet pumps!

(There I committed myself in a rather uncontraversial manner)

NorkilyChallenged · 13/11/2009 16:19

Coco - am happy to accept I am almost always achingly unhip and any periods of time where it appeared otherwise were simply an aberration.

Also must sheepishly admit I haven't actually owned a pair of converse for a long long time. I was just making my point (tis true about wearing them as a sixth former though).

herjazz · 13/11/2009 16:19

nice day time dresses
accessories - absolute explosion of. Revive and jazz up yr old clothes as you wish
general increase in choice of stuff available - largly down to internet
smaller / boutique stuff accessable via internet
ebay for bargains
etsy and all that
better standard of underwear in general high st shops
le touche eclat and other fab highlighters / concealers
renewed respect for classic, decent tailoring
fact you can walk into practically any high st shop and find a good pencil skirt
irregular choice shoes. ok some are bit shit. They'll always be at least a few pairs per collection that make me go oooooh

Georgimama · 13/11/2009 16:22

I can't find a (non micro mini) pencil skirt anywhere at the moment. Please advise (high street mind - I looked at the Marni website thanks to Bonsoir's endorsement and nearly fainted).

cocolepew · 13/11/2009 16:22
Grin
herjazz · 13/11/2009 16:23

h&m, river island, topshop had them when I last looked

NorkilyChallenged · 13/11/2009 16:24

Pencil skirts in M&S and (to go up in price a bit) Karen Millen, both knee length. Sure there must be some elsewhere too

Georgimama · 13/11/2009 16:25

Old lady skirts in M&S or nice ones with a bit of a flip? Will have a look - ta muchly both.

skinsl · 13/11/2009 16:26

Haven't bought anything in fashion for the last 10 years, so wouldn't know!

NorkilyChallenged · 13/11/2009 16:28

Marks has a mixed bag but there are some more interesting ones there. Admittedly most are more workwear (boring) than trendy though.

fanjolina · 13/11/2009 16:32

guyliner

especially on Brandon Flowers

Flamesnores · 13/11/2009 16:37

no no no! It is NOT "guyliner" - it is a bloke wearing just bog standard eye liner.
