was thinking t'other day how past 10 years mainly characterised by fashion revivals. But then started to mull over some of the original howlers the noughties have served us..

ok from start:-

big squares of horrid coloured belly dancer scarf.. mostly folded over and tied round the waist of fat arsed women in misguided belief that it was a clever masking technique

mules with clear perspex top - again usually embellished with some ribbon or jewels

Oh I remember the scarf round waist thing. I had a dark pink tassled thing I used to ruin a nice black suit with .

Jewelsandgems · 13/11/2009 10:01

Silver trainers. I had some from Buffalo and used to wear them with bootcut diesel jeans and some kind of shell jacket from Mambo. Used to wonder around covent garden (used to live there) thinking I was so COOL.

vesela · 13/11/2009 10:57

mules full stop.

ZacharyQuack · 13/11/2009 10:59

Leggings worn as trousers

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 13/11/2009 11:01

I still have mine, but.... CROCS!

cyteen · 13/11/2009 11:05

Knitted Uggs and all their fakey variants.

Jeggings.

vesela · 13/11/2009 11:14

Men's casual shirts, the straight/tight ones that are designed to be untucked.* Especially if patterned/brown/artificial fibres/short sleeved.

*as opposed to leaving an ordinary/baggy shirt untucked, which is fine and reminds me of the Boys of my Youth.

herjazz · 13/11/2009 12:54

yesssss to all of these. Except jeggings

what about those tshirts that were everywhere couple or so years ago - massive pixelly black and white print of woman's face. She even made it onto skirts as well

also pantaloon / harem type trews - drawstring around the ankles and seemingly endless other bits dangling about. Usually irridescent fabric to make even worse

superfluous toggles on anything

hair that's seen too much of the thinning scissors and straighteners. Every hairstyle kind of ends up looking the same. There's a pic of me and some mates a few years back and we look like we have 1 good head of hair shared between the lot of us

Plastic bra straps

Straightened hair.

Crocs

herjazz · 13/11/2009 12:58

ugh yes the bra straps. I had some with star pattern on ala wonderwoman. V classy

Was the combat trousers and stilettos a noughties things or late 90's? My head for dates must be going.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 13:00

Flips flops away from the beach - even if they are dressed up as sandals. I can't think of a quicker way of giving yourself a bunion and I don't want to see your mottled feet please.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 13:02

Oh, that horrible drawstring at the bottom of baggy trousers. So very odd and wrong.

herjazz · 13/11/2009 13:05

think the baggy drawstring trousers were designed to wear with heels. Pref gold ones with ankle strap. Yeak they count as last decade I reckon

oh god yes shoes with loads of strap wrapped up the leg. Even gladiator sandals were wrong

OP posts:
PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 13:14

ah but gladiator sandals were 80s as well - I had a pair

herjazz · 13/11/2009 13:16

ahhhhhh was that the mad max influence?

OP posts:
PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 13:17

I don't know about Mad Max - I was 13 and thought they were the height of glamour

TsarChasm · 13/11/2009 13:17

All that 'boho' stuff when everyone wanted to look like Sienna Miller. Oh and those belts made of big discs of metal.

LimburgseVlaai · 13/11/2009 13:19

Flipflops for men. Men's toenails are not suitable for public display.

'Smart' knee-length trousers made out of wool or other suit material (what are they called?). They make you look short and fat-arsed.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 13:20

Any time the dirndl's revived, why is it always worn by the short and dumpy?

spugs · 13/11/2009 13:22

crop tops, acid wash ripped jeans, hareem pants

I like leggings and jeggings

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/11/2009 13:23

Those trousers with the long straps/ribbons hanging off them.

tulpe · 13/11/2009 13:23

yes, I remember gladiator sandals back when I was in the 3rd year at comprehensive...1984....so definitely a revival item.

Plastic bra straps. Why??? They are not invisible - even from 10 metres away!

Peep toe shoeboot-things. Again, I ask, why???

Disagree about the drawstring trousers. I think a lot of that comes down to the english inability to wear them in a chic manner. In France, I see women of all ages wearing both drawstring trousers and harem pants and they always seem to carry them off with great style. I would wear them there but not here. Couldn't stand the MC Hammer tributes going on around me

BonjourIvresse · 13/11/2009 13:26

Jeas with embroidered flowers on for adults. The paint splattered jean look.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 13:29

Oh yyy to peeptoe shoeboots - neither fish nor fowl but so so foul
