was thinking t'other day how past 10 years mainly characterised by fashion revivals. But then started to mull over some of the original howlers the noughties have served us..

ok from start:-

big squares of horrid coloured belly dancer scarf.. mostly folded over and tied round the waist of fat arsed women in misguided belief that it was a clever masking technique

mules with clear perspex top - again usually embellished with some ribbon or jewels

i cannot abide the baggy waistcoat that seems to come as standard with an ugly top on the highstreet. It looks like someones DH fucked up the washing

putyoursocksON · 17/11/2009 13:54

apparently the fashion for falling down trousers, sometimes teamed with no laces in the trainers, comes from the fact that the police take away your belt and laces when you're arrested.

Niiiice!

Grill-pan highlights just awful. You can date the episode of 'Property Ladder' from whether The Beeny has them or a bump or both. They mix up the episodes so much she seems to have the gestation period of either an elephant or a mouse.

smellybulldog · 17/11/2009 15:45

SKIRTS! gypsy, puffball, maxi, pencil, tulip - all of them!

stubbornstains · 17/11/2009 19:16

Does anybody else think that the muffin top must be regarded as the new erogenous zone by chavlings and chavlettes- the chavlettes seem so keen to show them off? What a crime against womanhood and taste low-slung trousers are.

On the other hand, the entire fashion world must have been brainwashed over the last couple of seasons to think that those atrocious thick strappy/ clunky/ peeptoe boot things are lovely. I keep seeing them in the "best-dressed" photos in Grazia (which I read in ASDA like the classy dame I am)and thinking "Nooooo! Come to your senses! Those shoes make KEIRA frigging KNIGHTLEY look like she has chipolatas for legs!"

crankytwanky · 17/11/2009 22:19

I agree stubbornstains! Shoe-boots make the most leggy of lovelies look like they've got trotters.
Emperor's New Clothes, IMO. (Not that I'd know.)

midnightexpress · 17/11/2009 22:24

Am v much not liking the tapered leg jumpsuit.

Saw Sarah Harding on Jonathon Ross last week and it made her look about 3 stone heavier than she no doubt is. They always make one's arse look enormous - Liv Tyler, Sienna Miller, n'importe qui.

Squishabelle · 17/11/2009 22:41

I dont really like:-

crocs
Uggs
Low rise jeans
Slag tags
Anyone pg wearing skimpy clothes so the bump hangs out.
The inverted bob style haircut.
Also the bleached blond hair/black underneath combo.

Lotster · 17/11/2009 22:46

MBT's and Fit Flops

FluffMacDuff · 18/11/2009 00:13

Is it just me or does anyone else think Kate Moss as a style icon is hugely overrated?

skinny jeans only flattering on 6" tall models
ballet flats (no support whatsoever)
tiny hotpants with uggs/hunters
baggy waistcoats
tuxedo jackets with leggings

Noooooooo

All credit to her for setting trends, just wish the trends were more stylish / less androgynous

Lotster · 18/11/2009 10:45

Will you also be avoiding her new trend to look like Gillian Taylforth?

It's got to be Crocs, hasn't it?!

Lotster · 18/11/2009 11:54

On that point StayFrosty, it's rather funny to see the trend for laceless plimsolls filtering down to kidswear.

The original trend came fromurban yoof wanting to look like prison inmates who'd had their laces taken away for their own safety !!

Lotster · 18/11/2009 11:55

Aaaaand I just re-read your post and realised I missed the bit where you have already made that point!

Actually I know people love it but I hate the whole genre of laid back, out doorsey, 'relaxed' dressing as sold by fat face, and white stuff.
It is like Boden for people who don't want to be stereotyped - and yet its such a uniform. The clothes are ok but pretty [meh] but it is pretending to be all hippy and non conformist but is a mass market outfit.

Plus I go in there and wonder how they sell anything to anyone who hasn't actually got a dog to walk.

angelene · 18/11/2009 14:25

Don't think anyone has mentioned the tea dress over bootleg jeans look.

Only really works on the wistful, willowy Eng Lit student type, rather than the short and dumpy middle aged woman.

Actually, you could say that about most of these things couldn't you?

Twit · 18/11/2009 16:03

Boden.
