Leopard print leggings - yay, nay or never?

I keep finding myself drawn to

these beauties

I'm 36, a (wobbly) size 8 but shortish (5' 4" on a good day). There's no way I'd wear them as they're styled here, I was thinking more with cropped biker boots and a uniqlo black merino tunic/dress to cover my arse - as glorified tights really.

a bit like these but mine are the GAP ones

this sort of thing

Yes? No? Have slight nagging doubt that large expanses of leopard can just look trashy/tarty. Am I running that risk?

No, though you could possibly get away with them in Esher, Eshermummy, or in the Golden Triangle of Cheshire (both places I have lived in/experienced) but not outside either area and certainly not in Thames Ditton!

But leggings with dead plain stuff would have the same effect Cybil...

Leggings and coat would not be good.

CybilLiberty · 21/09/2009 21:48

Something about them being south of the border isn't quite right IMO

fishie · 21/09/2009 21:49

these are nice too

lots of money for leggings.

KristinaM · 21/09/2009 21:50

please dont do it

preggersplayspop · 21/09/2009 21:51

I always wanted a second hand leopard fur coat when I was a student many moons ago. I think its the kind of look you need to have bleached blonde mussed up hair with dark roots, and just-got-out-of-bed black eyeliner. (alas I met neither of these criteria)

I remain unconvinced whether Esher could handle leopard leggings!

eshermummy · 21/09/2009 21:54

Fishie - I know, £35 is a lot for leggings especially as what I really want is opaque leopard print tights - but I did a search and all the leopard tights I could find were quite low denier and sort of see through - me definitely no likey.

I pondered the tie-dye ones too!

I have leopard print tights from topshop but I got them a couple of years ago. Dunno if they'd still have them.

hoxtonchick · 21/09/2009 22:03

i have merino dress(es...) from uniqlo & those gap boots . i think you should go for it eshermummy.

I have 3 pairs of animal print leggings (2 snakeskin & 1 pair bit like these) but they have to be worn with care. Get them! Most days I wouldn't dream of wearing my loudest pair but every now & then there's nothing else for it but the leopard leggings. I wear mine with over the knee boots & long top & once or twice this summer with a long brown tunic style thing & sandals.

I love animal print & have all my sisters raiding my carefully curated collection now it's fashionable.

MarthaFarquhar · 21/09/2009 22:13

Go on, do it. I love a bit of animal print, and feel that all of our lives would be a bit brighter if only we got in touch with our inner Bet Lynch.

eshermummy · 21/09/2009 22:19

I take it back Noddy, those are good.

Monkeysmama - you've just swayed me. I have remembered that I already have black snakeskin leggings from last winter so am confident I can can carry it off and the with sandals option in summer is pure genius.

mwah!!!!!!!
