omg have just checked out website.

Absolutely love Bern and Brindisi. And they're not crazy expensive either.

Come on... somebody talk me into a purchase!

I got a couple of pairs last year, but am frustrated that you can't get them to fit foot width and calf width at the same time. They only had one style that (just) fit the width of my foot .

wel my issue with standard boots is not only is the calf baggy like a welly, but hte top of the "shoe" where it meets the leg bit is so baggy i could fit a guinea pig in there

Another freaky footer here like MGFairy

Tried on a wide fitted boot from Next but they were more like waders.

So Duo is the way to go if you've got 38cm calves but a narrow heel?

I've had a browse and I really want a pair of black nearly knee high flats or wedges.

What do you think of Malmo? Do you reckon they are full length?

Heated · 26/09/2009 21:49

Or Etienne?

God, I can't decide! Can see why so many of you have such a Duo boot fetish collection.

purplepeony · 26/09/2009 22:43

Heated what calf size are you?
I have tried both in the shop.
Malmo is nice but quite csasual- it is full length.
Etienne is lovely and i wanted it, but the ankle is quite wide/deep as you can see if you look at the phots showing a side view,, and didn't fit my foot very well. I am a 32" calf, so if you are a wider lady a la foot, you might be fine.

purplepeony · 26/09/2009 22:44

make that 32 cms, lol!

Heated · 26/09/2009 22:55

Purplepeony, I'm one of the freak footed: wide calves (38cm) & sticky out ankles bones, narrow heel and high arches, rather like this

From your helpful description is sounds like the Etienne would be better, already have some casual black boots but they're not full length, and I want to wear these for work with smart tunics and skirts.

deaddei · 27/09/2009 07:08

Heated, I'm sure you don't look like that!

purplepeony · 27/09/2009 09:51

Have a really good look Heated at the boots in the photos. If you look at a side-on shot of them you will see that Etienne has a fuller ankle- compared to Orsitano- the cut is wider at the ankle IYSWIM.

I think both might fit you, but Etienne was too wide for me at the ankle as I have sparrow's ankles- not horses hooves!

So went to duo this morning. Fully intended to buy talamores but when on they were just too long and also a bit baggy at the top.

Tried on pravias - they were nice but didn't like the nubuck.

So bought the bern in black as seemed to work best with my jeans tucked in. They're nice and cosy as have sheepskin lining and I think look quite 'Frye like'. But they are a little bigger around the ankle than I'd have ideally liked even in their smallest calf fitting.

And golly it was busy in there!

Did also try a gorgeous pair on in Hobbs but they were more suitable for wearing with skirts and I just don't wear many skirts at the moment.

Just found thread. I've been drooling over website for a few days. I am vv tempted by Etienne. Anyone know if they're high enough? I know it's knee high but compare with Day Birger & Mikkelsen back knee high "Star" boots on Net-a-porter.com.

Anyone tried the over the knee Celano? Can you really fold tops down as reviewer says?

i alos can tell you all if you selecet a SIZE and randome calf measurement , then a hting pops up saying how LONG the boot is.

Hi, am tempted by the Bern as they are fleecy. I don't have any brown boots so am tepted by brown. However, they are 33.5cm in my size, so mid calf. Am wondering just how much that might be unflattering. Are they smart enough to wear for work? (need to look professional). Would they go with knee length wrap dresses in jewel shades?

And, if one is wearing a knee length skirt, where is the best place for the top of the boot to hit? a few inches below? just under the knee? I have some black Russell and Bromley boots which are over knee (from the last time they were in fashion) which go on up under a knee length dress. You can see a ridge under the dress fabric, just over my knee. Might be quite warm in the depths of winter, mind you, but I'm wondering whether this is a bad look.

Aargh, I would say not. I am buying Bern for park with kids etc. They don't look work-y to me. I'd get something longer with a narrower heel.

I've got Berns but wouldn't wear them with skirts - strictly for jeans. Also I'm short so they come up a bit higher than mid calf on me.

Weirdly though not sure whats on the sole but keeps leaving black marks all over my kitchen floor - bizarre and annoying.

Report
duckyfuzz · 05/10/2009 21:22

have finally ordered etienne and am v excited, agree Berns not very worky really, I have worn them with smart trousers but they are better with jeans/cords

I have just re-measured legs and found that calves are 41cm and not 44cm as I had thought. Narrowest bit is 38cm and is about 41 cm from sole of foot. So presumably I want that length for max effect.

Now, I would seem to fit a lot of the Boden stuff quite well, just based on those measurements. Anyone got any experience of Boden and how it compares with Duo? Are Duo better made?

Also, I quite like patent (it seems to wear well) and I quite like buckles (student handback, I think). Is this awful? Or this? I have to say, I would prefer not to have a yellow stripe as it would tend to clash with my clothes, but then I'm maybe not fashion forward enough. A purple stripe would be interesting though.

AS regards the Duo boots, I think the Pavia looks interesting. Do all those buckles help you to get a better fit or are they just for show?

And I like the idea of having a smart boot on top, with a low but fairly blocky heel (more comfortable) and a solid sole. I am thinking sensible and comfortable but ideally with a little bit of style and/ or edge.
