I'm just 5 ft and a small size 10 (hopefully decreasing as 7 wks post baby).

So would the IO cosy flatter or swamp me?

Its v appealing for warmth in my freezing house and bf discretion . . .

Oh and does the wool look like it will bobble?

flowerybeanbag · 13/09/2009 20:04

You lot are a terrible influence. I've got to stay off these Style and Beauty threads, I'm spending a fortune on new baby stuff atm and really can't afford to be buying myself cable cosies and Fly London boots! Have ordered on the basis that I have nothing to keep me warm in my late pregnancy state, this will do that and will also be worn all winter when not pg. So per wear it will be v cheap.

That's justification enough, yes?

LetThemEatCake · 13/09/2009 21:07

I do agree that it's a shame to cover up that dress with anything at all. You'd only be wearing it for getting to the venue and leaving at the end of the night though, right? Not during the event itself?

flowerybeanbag - Is this your first baby? It's number 3 for me and I have learned this: do not spend a fortune on new baby stuff, they only outgrow it in five seconds flat or you discover it was unnecessary in the first place. You, on the other hand, will get loads of use out of your purchases.
Oh, and did I mention that happy mum =happy baby? and that happy babies are good sleepers LOL

hi tracey!! I don't think the wool looks like it will bobble, it doesn't have that fluffiness, if you get me - it's quite silky to the touch. As for its swampiness, it hits the back of my knees at 5'10" so it would probably be quite coat-like on you ... I'd definitely order it to try on though!

Second baby. Stuff purchased so far includes a Phil & Teds, a new bed for DS so DS2 can have the cotbed, new wardrobe for DS2, new guest bed for the spare room which is now going to be the spare room/my office, and various other bits and bobs.

Stuff I unnecessarily spent a fortune for on DS I have not done so this time , and a lot of stuff is going to be reused as well, so I have learned, and it is cheaper this time round, but still..

Like the theory that DS2 will sleep well because of my purchases though...

LetThemEatCake · 13/09/2009 21:32

oh god, your purchases sound like ours... new bed for dd1, new guest bed for spare room (my mum is coming over for a month and we didn't feel that it was 'right' for her to sleep on the sofa) ... haven't bought any clothes etc, already have all the reusable nappies ... had to buy a new sheepskin though ... and now own a bugaboo, a phil & ted and 2 McClarens and not sure what to get rid of!! Plan was to get rid of the P&T but not sure that dc2 is ready for the buggyboard .... Plus have bought a stack of stuff for dc1 and dc2 to keep them 'busy' while I am busy with baby ... trampoline, teepee, dolls house ... ridiculous. It really does all add up.

I have ordered the same Isabella Oliver cardi after the other thread, but it said it wasn't available yet so I won't get it for a couple of weeks, maybe it's a size thing or you beat me to the ordering !

I keep thinking that there haven't been many 2nd baby purchases so far but actually erm...

  • we've moved house
  • new bed for DS
  • guest bed for parents visiting
  • new pram as old first baby one broke
  • electric breast pump as only had manual one last time and didn't get on very well with it
  • might need to get more Moses basket bedding as last lot have mysteriously disappeared, I suspect they will materialise from a forgotten packing box in about a year's time but can't find them!
  • a baby bouncer chair thing as while DS spent most of his waking time in sling or on my lap I suspect DC2 will have to be put down more often while I run around after toddler

So it is quite a lot, isn't it!

electra · 13/09/2009 22:34

Isabella Oliver is fantastic. Sells well on ebay postpartum too!

LetThemEatCake · 13/09/2009 22:40

oh yes, we moved house too

and dh now rents an office as there is no room for him to work/ store his kit at home, despite moving to a bigger house!

I think when you factor in a house subsequent babies are much more expensive - the piles of unnecessary baby clothes I got for DS pale into insignificance by comparison!

Did you have to get a new car for DC3 too?

LetThemEatCake · 13/09/2009 22:50

oh crap yes!! forgot that too. Yep, new car

OP posts:
pasturesnew · 13/09/2009 22:53

LOL everything will look fab with the new cardi on top anyway!

pasturesnew · 17/09/2009 11:47

Mine has turned up now, it is really nice and cosy and everything but:

  • fairly bulky so I look quite large but maybe that's unfair given I am expecting a baby any moment
  • the colour is lighter than I thought it would be, it's a normal grey rather than a darker charcoal grey
  • the return tag and Isabella Oliver tag just fell off immediately I tried it on! So I can't return it now and if I want to ebay it in the future I'll have to sew the brand tag back onto the inside collar. Luckily I do like it and won't be returning it but that's a bit annoying!
pasturesnew · 17/09/2009 11:48

actually it is exactly the same colour as shown on the website, I must have misremembered the colour since the time I ordered it.
