Tops to go with gypsy skirts?

dizzymama · 26/05/2005 10:36

I think am adicted to this style forum! This time the question is:
If I have a gypsy skirt do I have to do the Victoria Beckham thing and wear it with a vest top (Bingo wings alert)
Any other ideas???

wouldl ove to know the answer to this as I have very "plump" arms!!

Bouj · 26/05/2005 11:05

I have been wearing mine all summer (am in Oz) with strappy tops, but now I am still wearing it with a fitted black top, v-neck. I think the best idea is to be fitted (sleeves or not) as the skirt itself is so floaty! Soo comfortable though...

Lizzylou · 26/05/2005 11:06

I've worn mine with a fitted short sleeved shirt/top..my arms are not my best feature!!

dropinthe · 26/05/2005 11:08

Do these skirts still look on fat birds?

moet · 26/05/2005 11:10

Are you all wearing the long ones or the knee length skirts??

Lizzylou · 26/05/2005 11:11

Have both, but my legs are a bit pasty!

SaintGeorge · 26/05/2005 11:13

I'm a total hippy so I wear the matching ethnic style tops to go with the skirts - always have done just happen to be momentarily in fashion!

dizzymama · 26/05/2005 12:11

Don't think I'd dare wear a shorter one, I opt for the long floor skimming affairs, as a qualified fat bird I tend to stick to darker colours too Fitted tops seem to be the rule then (sorry Saint george, I'd love to do the floaty ethnic top with the skirt but I always look like I'm trying to be a hippy but am in fact woman at M&S!!Envy those who can)

Kaftan top, or strappy vest with military or safari-style jacket. (not that I possess a gypsy skirt myself, having come to the conclusion I'm too old...)

Gobbledigook · 26/05/2005 12:21

Where have you all got your skirts from?

Gobbledigook · 26/05/2005 12:22

PMSL COd!! A waterfall!?!

anchovies · 26/05/2005 12:23

I've gone a bit crazy in monsoon, also got a nice crinkly one from next.

I wear vest tops but have got horrid arms so have a kind of see-through wrap around thing and short sleeved cardies for over the top

Sonnet · 26/05/2005 12:28

Anchovies - can you expand pleae on the see through wrap thing and short sleeved cardis??? - oh please please coz i nned to re-vamp my waderobe, love the idea of gypsey skirts but think they look better with sleeveless tops!!

crunchie · 26/05/2005 12:37

I do the gypsy skirt thing with a little 'twinset' type affair A strappy vest top and matching cardi - but v fitted (or tight depending on how you look at it

I also have a couple of fitted t shirts with more floaty sleeves. They look good too.

I love the gypsey skirt look on other women, but I just look like a tramp.

Gobbledigook · 26/05/2005 12:41

Where id you get your skirt Crunchie?

Lonelymum · 26/05/2005 12:42

I don't like the crinkly ones. I want to get the iron out to them! I bought a lovely on from Per Una but I expect I shall see it everywhere. I wear it (or will do when the weather warms up) with vest tops. Is that OK? I don't have a problem with my arms.

Sonnet · 26/05/2005 12:44

Crunchie - where do you find your twinset things from and T.shirts with floaty sleeves????

Fimbo · 26/05/2005 12:45

Would love one, but they would make me look like the back end of a bus.

anchovies · 26/05/2005 12:54

I love crinkly, actually I love anything that doesn't need ironing!

Got brown cap sleeve cardi from monsoon (you can see it on their website but wont let me link), loads of different colours. Also beige see through knitted wrap around thing (much nicer than it sounds honest!)from there. Got a nice pink top with sleeves that looks like a wrap around top with a vest underneath, fitted underneath which does a good job of hiding my arms and stomach as well.

gingerbear · 26/05/2005 12:55

I remember them first time around - with sewn in broiderie anglaise petticoat. Thought they were the bees knees when I was 11.

No good if you have 'child bearing hips'. (Didn't have when 11, could do a whole litter now)

Lonelymum · 26/05/2005 12:57

Camisoles! That is what I e=mean tto sy instead of vests. Couldn't think of the right word.

Fimbo · 26/05/2005 12:57

I have just bought a lovely one for my skinny-minny dd from Boden - its fab with a sticky out petticoat underneath.
