Why oh why have I been going to M&S for bras for all these years??????

Because they are shite!!!!!!

I went today for maternity bras, i was measured after waiting 30 minutes and woman said I was 32D, that didnt fit, then she tried a 34dd, no good, then she decided I might be an E cup but said she didnt have any maternity in an E cup!

So I trotted off to Bravissimo, had never been before and wasnt swayed by useless marketing twaddle on the wall about how women have never felt so good shopping for underwear blah blah.

No measuring, she looked at my boobs, told me I was wearing the wrong size pre-pregnancy (also measured by M&S), she came in with a bra, put it on, told me to bend over and jiggle my boobs and stood up ...HEP PRESTO the most perfect fitted bra Ive ever worn in my life.
Yes it was more expesive, but my boobs look good and Im comfortable.
I will go back after pregnancy and kit myself out with proper fitting bras.

I left being part of the marketing twaddle highly recommended

Bravissmos swimwear is excellent..got some bikinis a few years back...were great!

lynniep · 25/05/2009 12:39

I agree - M&S also measured me wrong - the woman came back with several in the size she had measured me as - and none of them fit. Not even close

Joggler · 25/05/2009 12:40

"article" in the mail today about tits and bras
almost all need to go DOWN a back size and up a cup size

Tinker · 25/05/2009 12:43

Hmm, I've been wearing 34b forever. Tried that down a back size up a cup and was all squashed and flattened. Maybe I've always been wearing the right size after all

NotSoRampantRabbit · 25/05/2009 12:53

Another vote for Bravissimo.

M&S measured me as 34B but back all loose and had 4 boobs.

Friend took me to Bravissimo and I emerged a very proud and happy 32F. I have fabulous upward facing bosoms now and will never go anywhere else.

Twas like magic the way the girl surveyed norks and disappeared for 5 mins to return with a selection of gorgeous and perfect fitting bras.

If it's that easy why are M&S getting it so wrong.

A nation in badly fitting bras because they are dreadful.

fishie · 25/05/2009 12:55

yy bravissimo. but they don't have a great deal of choice in colours. i like panache plunge but they always sell out.

cornsilk · 25/05/2009 14:38

M&S bra sizing is the equivalent of buying your kids shoes from Clarks. It's as if we've been conditioned to believe in it even though they're usually wrong.

pollywobbledoodle · 25/05/2009 14:51

have had mixed experience of bravissimo, 1st time great, a real difference. 2nd time i felt really pressured into buying a bra which was really too tight being told that was how it was effective...bought it but changed it for a back size bigger and cup size smaller, much more comfortable

beepbeep123 · 25/05/2009 22:34

is Bravissimo based at john lewis , ive never heard of it

MrsBonJovi · 25/05/2009 23:11

I went to Bravissimo in Glasgow to be fitted out for a maternity bra 2 years ago but must have got a trainee because she couldn't get me a bra that fitted properly - they had a limited stock for maternity bras and I came away desperately disappointed.

However, when I lived in Bristol (rather appropriately!) I had a perfect fitting from them in what must have been one of their very first shops.

So I live in hope that I will be suitably supported again when I go to get fitted up for my first non-maternity bra in nearly 2 years. I can't wait to chuck away my saggy maternity bras

AitchTwoOh · 26/05/2009 13:21

you want the rather elegant but hefty lady in glasgow, she's the miracle worker imo.
glas, you ever been to new lanark? if you're going, speak to me first... do NOT follow the travel instructions on the website.

trixymalixy · 26/05/2009 13:47

Another vote for bravissimo and Freya bras.

M&S had me as a 36E, I came out of Bravissimo in a 32 H!!

Although I had a bad fitting in Bravissimo in Glasgow as well. I tried on the bra I had bought at home and it just didn't seem right so I took it back and got re-fitted by someone else and went down another back size.

TitchyWitch · 26/05/2009 13:47

I went to M&S for maternity bras as I wanted to save money. I usually wear bras from Bravissimo in 32E and went to try that size on in M&S. The woman in the changing room wouldn't let me try it on as she said I couldn't possibly be that size (I was wearing a coat). She even shouted over to her colleague "Bravissimo told this girl she is a 32e, ha ha". She measured me and told me I was a 36D which I tried on, hilarious, I went back to Bravissimo and was glad to spend the money.

satine · 26/05/2009 13:54

M & S are, indeed, utterly sh*te at measuring. In fact they got me spectacularly wrong - I am 34E, and they said I was 38D!! And then stood looking mystified as I struggled to make the bras fit! I'll never go back to them for underwear now, am completely sold on Bravissimo and (occasionally) Rigby & Peller!

runnervt · 26/05/2009 14:05

I've just changed from wearing a badly fittin 34DD to a 30F. Fits so much better. I've been able to get two new Freya bras from ebay for about half price (about £14 each). Both sellers said they would take returns too if they didn't fit. so good bras don't have to be quite so expensive!

BlingDreaming · 26/05/2009 14:18

I keep promising myself a trip to Bravissimo and keep forgetting. Right. Am putting it in diary - have day off next week to do some shopping and entertaining and will add trip to buy new bras that actually fit while still being attractive to the list!

glasjam · 26/05/2009 14:40

Thanks Aitch - I shall endeavour to get that woman when next I go although how I will engineer it will take some thinking about!

Have not been to New Lanark I don't think although I do get confused between all these mammoth malls - I take it there is another Bravissimo there? I think I've done the Fort, Forge, Silverburn, Braehead and another one that has an icerink and a public library in the middle - they all tend to merge into one and the same experience in my head!

BCLass · 26/05/2009 15:01

Can I just add - I hate M&S bras!!!

I have a small back - prob 30/32 and when not bf a B cup, now bf back has not changed, but boobs prob D or DD.

The backs are just too big, always. I don't see what the problem is - there must be loads of ladies 30/32 - not everyone is a bloody 34!!!!

Am wearing M&S nursing bra now - 34 back (don't go smaller ) - too bloody loose!

Even hotmilk - ordered 32DD, still too loose!

Ah, thanks for that - rant over.

As you were.

AitchTwoOh · 26/05/2009 15:20

no no new lanark is at the falls of clyde, it's a world heritage site, restored cotton mill village etc. good day out. if you take MY travel advice and not theirs.

i'll come into town with you if you want, i can jiggle two babies while you get yours jiggled by the hefty lady.

KristinaM · 26/05/2009 16:13

LOL at you glasjam

glasjam · 26/05/2009 20:19

Aitch - I HAVE visited other places of interest apart from shopping malls honest!! Shall add New Lanark to my summer itinerary.

And thanks for the very kind offer regarding a trip to Bravissimo. When I have the cash to splash I might just have to take you up on it.

AitchTwoOh · 26/05/2009 21:07

you know i've lived here most of my life and i don't think i've been to all those shopping centres. new lanark

shhhh · 26/05/2009 21:47

I can't understand why people are saying M&S are bad at fitting bra's..? .

I have always bought bra's from them (amongst other places...which I add...Im' one size at M&S and others YET another at asda .. )

Why are they wrong..? I recently lost weight, got measure and find the new size 36c comfortable and fits me perfectly...

just can't understand why people are so unhappy with m&s..?
