Have scanned the free mailer and decided that I can sort of see myself in some of it this summer; am slim 10/12, 5'5" but greying at the temples and want to look sort of chilled boho, but not sad ethnic . My normal style is very classic and probably a tad boring. Is toast a load of tut or stylish - votes please!!!

I think very stylish but always though that she needed to be 5'8" at least to wear it!

BeehiveBaby · 05/05/2009 19:55

she you

CatsBumFace · 05/05/2009 19:56

tis nicer in reality than in the weirdy pictures

Morecrumbleplease · 05/05/2009 21:02

Some of it is very stylish, and some the sort of thing you have to be extremely careful with. Sounds like you have a sense of that though, and would go for the things that suit.

So yes, sounds good!

hester · 05/05/2009 21:07

I think the stuff is nice but wildly over-priced.

SalVolatile · 05/05/2009 21:11

Hmm, like behive says, am worried I am too short but love the 50"s swimwear!

Don't really see how 5'5" can be too short unless you want to wear the very long skirts. The swimwear is fabulous - and not at all height-restricted

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 05/05/2009 23:14

I am 5' 6" and find Toast clothes are perfect. THey are expensive but I think everything I have bought has been worth the money. Very well made and lovely fabrics. If there is something I covet but am uncertain about parting with the cash, I wait until the sales which are usually very good (eg £150 tunic for a bargainous £40, another dress half price etc).

Poppity · 05/05/2009 23:44

I love Toast clothes, they have a lovely understated chicness imo.
They usually fit and last really well, and as MrsSimm says, definitely worth the extra. They have great ethical credentials too.
Their sales are hugely bargainous.
I don't think they are particularly made for tall girls- I always check the length of the tops before I buy as some can be short on me (5'10" size 10).

gigglewitch · 05/05/2009 23:46

but I thought you were offering the nice toasty stuff with butter on it

ja9 · 05/05/2009 23:49

how do we hear about their sales?

higgle · 06/05/2009 09:51

If you buy anything from them they email you about the sales, otherwise keep looking on the site - their sale is usually quite late starting but not as late as Brora. I love Toast stuff too, but can only afford it in the sale and occasionaly find something nice on ebay.

SalVolatile · 06/05/2009 21:10

OK girls, it's all your fault for encouraging me - I'm going to buy (bounces excitedly at the thought of understated chicness ) and sorry about the toast gigglewitch!

Hehe! Tell us what you get....personally I am lusting after
this
and [http://www.toast.co.uk/product/dresses/C1AA1/marguerite+dress.htm this]]

I have these great (and more flattering) alternative to leggings
and this which is lovely.

I too usually wait for the sale though, and try not to look too much before then!

I have a bikini from them which is years old, and still looks fab. I think their swimwear is so classic.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 06/05/2009 23:19

Poppity, the Churidar trousers.....are they not a wee bit tight with no "give"? I love the idea of them but cannot bear to wear anything that is without a little stretch in them, iyswim. However, my feeling is they would be kinder to my poor cankles than regular leggings (not that it stops me from wearing them )

tattycoram · 07/05/2009 07:26

I've tried those on MrsJS, you are right, they don't have any give, but also they are very very thin material and I thought if I knelt down (I've got a two year old so do lots of htat) they would go through in the knee.

(btw, am off to Parga in three weeks - cannot wait)

howtotellmum · 07/05/2009 08:38

poppity sorry but they are shapeless and horrid.

Poppity · 07/05/2009 12:45

I wouldn't wear them as just trousers, they are intended for underneath a dress or tunic I would think.

I think they are much kinder to knees(mine are a funny shape)

The fabric is thin, but I have worn mine loads and they still seem fine. I have a little one too.

They are cut on the bias and are quite loose on me really, so I didn't notice that they are not a stretch fabric. I guess it does make them more of a pain to get on- you have to do up about 8 little ankle buttons.

I think they would look shapeless if you wore them just as trousers, and your pants would show!

I think they will lovely for summer under a dress when I'm nearing leg wax time!

I guess it depends on the style you prefer, but I wouldn't call them horrid.

tattycoram · 07/05/2009 12:47

I love them Poppity. Just thought they might rip. Did you get a size bigger than you would normally wear?

flowerybeanbag · 07/05/2009 12:52

I bought the churidar in black and dark blue, they arrived this morning. They are very thin but the cut means they aren't tight or restrictive so the lack of actual stretch doesn't matter.

I'm a 12ish in trousers, sometimes a 10, and I got them in medium. Bit baggy around the top but I'm pg at the moment so I'm hoping they'll last me through the summer.

tattycoram · 07/05/2009 13:11

Ooh - am tempted to give them another go - which do you prefer, the black or the black blue?

Poppity · 07/05/2009 13:13

Hi, I got a medium which is supposed to be for a 12. I am usually a 10 in Toast clothes, but they didn't have a small in stock!

They are a little loose on the waist, but not so it is a problem.

Poppity · 07/05/2009 13:15

Have just looked and they are out of stock until the end of the month. I have the dark blue, I thought the black looked a tad shiny, are they?

flowerybeanbag · 07/05/2009 13:22

Not at all shiny, no. The dark blue is a nice colour, just depends what tops/dresses you are going to wear with them really as to which colour is best. I suspect I will probably wear the black more.

dairymoo · 07/05/2009 13:40

I really like those churidar too but am wondering about the sizing. I am an 8-10 but tend to like things looser rather than tight IYKWIM. I think I'd get more wear out of the dark blue than the black but would have to order a M which might be a bit too big.

So - questions - how blue is the dark blue, is it more of a navy or a grey/blue, or even a purple/blue?

Would they look ridiculous if they were too big?
