My cousin is getting married in two weeks and it's come upon me a bit suddenly. He is very posh, and conservative, and is having a big posh wedding. I thought I could get away with wearing a dress I bought for an autumn wedding but it has suddenly got really hot and I don't want to be rubicund and sweaty before I have even started on the champagne, do I now.

I have managed to find dresses that my dds will wear - a feat in itself, as they are resolutely tomboyish - but I'm scuppered wrt myself. I am busty, vaguely hourglass, size 12-14-16 depending on make, and normally dress kind of boho-ly with a lot of norkage on display, which may not do here.
My mother has already dispatched my sisters back to the shops to change their dresses (yes, she DOES wield that kind of power over women in their 40s) and whilst I would not let her do the same to me, I know that unless I am attired appropriately, she is going to subtly undermine me all day and make me feel once again like the black sheep.

So please help.

It sounds frumpy but have you tried M and S?
I went dress shopping at the weekend and the only dress I found from Frasers, Debenhams, M and S, TK Maxx, River Island, Next and anywhere else I could find was by Per Una. They had lots to choose from, some of which were veeeerrry nice!
I bought this one, which I can assure you looks so much nicer in the flesh thatn on the screen

Oh I love that sunburst French Connection one.

And that purple LK Bennet one although it is WAY too expensive.

Oh and Monsoon had some gorgeous dresses but they all fitted very...strangely. Weird bits bulging out, strange lengths. Maybe it's just me and thy'd be fine on you!

MadameCastafiore · 22/04/2009 15:10

The French Connection one is different wickerman - not a lot of people buy dresses for weddings and things there, whereas every third person will have ona Coast dress.

It could be made to look really nice with the ruight accessories and wouldn't look odd with some gold birkenstocks for going to the pub in the evening.

This one with the matching bag is lovely!

missblythe · 22/04/2009 15:28

Never sure about cream/white at weddings, although every weddign I do to seems to have a couple of white/cream-clad guests, but this is gorgeous in the flesh, will look great with your curves, and could be accessoried with coloured shoes/hat etc. And look at the price!
