Shallow I know, but Sarah Brown has appalling dress sense and a terrible figure.

FGS woman, loser a bit of weight and get some nice gear. You're supposed to be representing us.

It is so sad that it doesn't seem to matter what a woman achieves, how clever she is, how caring, supportive etc she is-it all boils down to her looks and dress sense-who cares? Not me! (SB seems a normal woman to me-much better than a 'plastic' celebrity).

pointydog · 03/04/2009 22:49

I'd just as happily comment on a man's dress. Does that help?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/04/2009 22:58

urgh

horrid thread

Quattrocento · 03/04/2009 22:58

Clearly Sarah Brown is quite a lot overweight. Equally clearly we should not be slagging her off about it. S'not cricket .

Merrylegs · 03/04/2009 22:59

Love this quote of Michelle's in paper today...

(as Michelle said of her husband, 'He's always asking: "Is that new? I haven't seen that before". It's like, "Why don't you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet".')

pointydog · 03/04/2009 23:07

I think she looks fine and dandy.

kittywise · 03/04/2009 23:09

How did she look indecent you ask? Well indecent is not a word I would have used. She should have chosen clothes that fitted her at least. I mean I do that, most people chose a skirt and top they can get into and look ok in.
Why, if you are meeting the new pres and his mrs would you chose a suit which is plainly too small?

moondog has a weight issue

WilfSell · 03/04/2009 23:14

Jeez Quattro. And moondog.

'Quite a lot overweight'?

She SO is not. She simply has a British figure, dressed in a clingy suit. Which is ill-advised.

I am going to join the cross brigade on this one.

NotanOtter · 03/04/2009 23:21

'british figure' ?

Quattrocento · 03/04/2009 23:21

I'll rephrase

Clearly Sarah Brown has a very british figure. Equally clearly we should not be slagging her off for it.

pointydog · 03/04/2009 23:22

british figure?

NotanOtter · 03/04/2009 23:24

are british women 'overweight' naturally - a genetic blip on the island?

WilfSell · 03/04/2009 23:25

Whatever. Normal. Female.

British figure: pear shaped because she doesn't starve herself or eat no carbs or Spin to exhaustion or hopefully give a flying fuck about what other people think. So she's a politician's wife. She's not only a wife. She is not letting the side down, she is letting the side up.

NotanOtter · 03/04/2009 23:27

Anna is gonna LOVE that !!!!!!

british figure.....?

WilfSell · 03/04/2009 23:27

Look . She is NOT overweight. Do you think a size 14 arse really represents a raised BMI? Or even that a slightly raised BMI is really dangerous?

What standards of 'normal weight' should women be judged by and who exactly should be doing the judging?

TheCrackFox · 03/04/2009 23:29

Well, this is amazing, nearly 500 posts about Sarah Brown's outfit and none about the fact the G20 have agreed to pump £1trillion into the world economy. Our great grandchildren will be paying this off for us. But apparently the size of Sarah's arse is deemed more important.

Sorrento · 03/04/2009 23:29

She just needs advice on what to wear and get the right sizes, perfect example today, a double breasted coat that's too tight completely flattens her norks.
She is in the public eye, she does project an image of this country and at the moment it says I haven't a clue, very much like her husband though to be fair.

WilfSell · 03/04/2009 23:30

NAO what in what I said implied Britishness was genetic. I happen to think exactly the opposite: that national cultures are just that - cultural.

Which means that where Anna is in Paris, it might seem entirely normal to laugh at all the sad fatties over the way, and on the international political/PR/fashion scene it might be 'normal' to eat tissues because if you don't you might worry that people won't love you quite as much, but for most women in Britain, hips, belly and arse have become normal for many.

Meanwhile, younger women think normal is thinner and thinner and thinner. Why? Because of judgey threads like this.

British culture for you.

NotanOtter · 03/04/2009 23:31

does culture breed a bodyshape?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/04/2009 23:32

She is a pear shape - I would call that a british figure

pointydog · 03/04/2009 23:32

This is a just a message board, crack. No one pretend they're here to have serious discussions about world politics. Talking about the appearance of someone who's been in the press is very run of the mill stuff. It's idle chat, no one's pretending it's any different.

Sorrento · 03/04/2009 23:32

I disagree that young women think thin is normal, they seem fatter than ever. When you think that in your teens you should be the skinniest you'll ever be, seeing the arse and bellies on many teenagers, boys and girls you feel sorry for how big they'll be after a couple of kids/years working in an office.
