I'm wondering who my MN style twins are.

I tend to look "ok", but never "me" (does that make sense?). I don't have the confidence to wear the type of stuff I like (a shopping trip with PinkTulips would probably suit me ).

I have birthday money to get a load of clothes, but atm my selection is limited. I may spend some of it going blonde though

NancysGarden · 01/04/2009 20:20

Why not the confidence? If you like it why the hell not? I saw a singer at Ronny Scots the other day who looked so funky in her 50s get up her confidence oozed. She knew she had the crowd mesmorised and it showed. She wasn't a typical size 0 or blonde or leggy or any of the stereo types. Just fab.

Podrick · 01/04/2009 20:20

Danish and ranging from slightly to wildly inappropriate

Flamesparrow · 01/04/2009 20:23

I have been seriously lacking in any self confidence for a hell of a long time (possibly forever ). I dunno. One day I will like me more.

NancysGarden · 01/04/2009 20:23

go podrick. I like a girl who doesn'#t apologise for herself.

Flamesparrow · 01/04/2009 20:24

Intrigued - what woudl "danish" look like?!?

I was in lots of vest tops and jeans (mainly jeans swiped from Psycho so no choice on style - not that I don't like them, but they are not so much "me" iyswim), now I am in looser tops (batwing/smock type things) where I gained weight and had hideous muffin over jeans.

My fave outfit atm is a grey long smock type thing from Next that I cannot find on their website to explain, and black leggings. I feel "me" in it. Sort of indie-ish

NancysGarden · 01/04/2009 20:35

jeans from pyscho???

NancysGarden · 01/04/2009 20:36

er I mean psycho

MrsWeasley · 01/04/2009 20:37

Just asked my DD (13yo) to describe my dress sense to which she calmly replied that I havent got any! and

Flamesparrow · 01/04/2009 20:42

Lol another MNer - she lost oodles of weight as I did so I got all her too big stuff

Flamesparrow · 01/04/2009 20:43

MrsW - it'll be all those home knitted jumpers that do it

MrsWeasley · 01/04/2009 21:00

but my cloaks are magical

EffiePerine · 01/04/2009 21:04

tatty and slightly crumpled

janeite · 01/04/2009 21:55

Mrs Weasley - I asked my dd1 (14) to describe my dress and all she said was, 'You really need a new handbag because yours is horrible' - charming!

Snowstorm · 01/04/2009 21:55

DH says that I would have been 'Comfy Spice' ...

Lawks · 02/04/2009 05:39

Comfy spice .

Roffle.

NorbertDentressangle · 02/04/2009 09:48

lol @ Comfy Spice.

It conjures up images of Geri Halliwell et al snuggled up in baggy, cosy cardigans, elasticated waist trousers and some sheepskin slippers.

I'm sure your dress sense must be better than that

Snowstorm · 02/04/2009 09:58

Maybe it is ... maybe it isn't!!

PinkTulips · 02/04/2009 10:11

flame.... i know what you mean. i've been so focused on the kids the last few years and so unwilling to spend a penny on myself that i've neded up with a wardrobe i hate.

it took a blazing, we're going to break up row with dp to realise i wasn't just losing my dress sense but my whole bloody personality and it was in danger of losing me my relationship.

so the mumsy junk i bought because it was cheap has been binned and i've resolved to pay the money for the clothes i love, spend 5 mins in the morning cleaning my face and shoving on some mascara and lipgloss, and not be afraid of anyones opinions on the clothes i wear... so what if i terrify the moms at toddler group... i want to feel confidant and comfortable again so i'm back to my baggy skate pants, reds, purples and odd mixes of dresses and pants, stripy over the knee socks, scary witch boots... all the things that make me feel good about myself.

and you know what? it feels so good to be back to myself

sleepsforwimps · 02/04/2009 10:21

Good for you PinkTulips. I too have been feeling like I have been gradually losing myself, with having two dc close together my wardrobe became full of 'make do' items. My ds is now 9 months and I have had a clear out, been shopping and I'm rediscovering the old me, I wasn't completly lost but I was in danger of it. A new haircut and wardrobe revamp has made such a difference to how I feel about myself.

Work: woman at M&S
Play: was getting into a horrible rut of jeans/tracky bottoms and "what is the point I'm only spending the weekend scrubbing toilets and doing 9 loads of washing". Then I realised that I would never never get DD up in the morning and dress her in that way so I spent some money on new things - Hula jeans from New Look! A jolly cardi from Boden! and chucked out anything that wasn't flattering. And I feel so much better. And I look so much more glam when scrubbing toilets

BarefootShirl · 02/04/2009 11:08

Mine is probably best described as "highly personal" . If I like it I will buy it and wear it without really worrying too much what others think - sounds fine in principle but doesn't necessarily mean it's a "good" look.

Have to admit to sometimes dressing a bit "young" (e.g. short skirt/revealing top)for a 30-something mum of 2 but will carry on doing my own thing until either I feel uncomfortable or DH tells me to "grow up" (but have to say he seems to like my dress sense - if you can call it that ).

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/04/2009 11:09

shabby, can't even include the chic bit
