I have alphabetised my wardrobe, and they are all hanging there nicely.

I have 7 (had no idea I had that many)

1 Chunky burnt orange 3/4 sleeved
1 Teal waist length with 1 big button
1 black round neck waist length
1 stone boyfriend
1 red v necked waist length
1 chunky powder blue
1 chunky swing beigey one

I did have about 5 more, but chucked them/sent non-bobbly ones to charity shop a few weeks ago during wardrobe reshuffle

mrsmaidamess · 30/03/2009 19:42

I have at least 30 . Nothing patterned, mohair or Granny ish though. Got really into long chunky ones this year over slim leg jeans and boots.
Plus have a few Whistles ones and some fat face basics. Wearing a white stuff tie front one right now. Should have a cull but they're so useful.

When I first glanced at this thread I thought of my mother, who seems to have hundreds, and can't pass the Edinburgh Wool Mill without throwing her cash at it, but a quick tot in my head tells me I have 11! I bet there are more up there. I've been looking for a new one too!

That seems a lot for anyone under 30! I never thought I was a cardi kinda gal!

Good thread! Has made me take a good hard look at my clothes stockpiling habits .

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:05

Three.
Zara cashmere/silk mix long line cardi in charcoal
Whistles Fuschia cashmere (bought 2nd hand at market for £15)
Chunky Nicole Farhi brown chunky thing - not lovely, but toasty

Ummm, think that's it. Unless you count the yak-wool zip-front thingy I bought when trekking in Nepal in 2001.

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 21:07

Letthemeatcake, DH has one of those Nepalese Yak wool jobbys, I just bought pashmina scarves

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:16

I bought pashminas for my mum & sis but I was going through my snowboarder hippy-chick phase at the time so I was all about looking scruffaluffa-geous. I have a fab bright purple yak wool beanie from that trip too! We were just looking at photos of that trip last night - pre marriage, pre-kids, damn we look young!!
Where/ when did you go?

janeite · 30/03/2009 21:24

Mmm teal waist length one button sounds just the thing I've been looking for.

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 21:31

Letthemeatcake, we went in November 2001, we did a bit of whirlwind 2 1/2 weeks, India (Delhi/Jaipur/Agra/Varanasi) then Nepal (Chitwan and Kathmandu). Really wished we trekked as well (but work commitments).
Nepal is just fab, would love to go back. Seems a lifetime ago.
And I only kept 2 pashmina scarves, never imagined I would be almost middleaged and attending weddings where they'd be de rigeur
I did get a lot of Tigers Eye jewellery too.

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:33

My god, exactly when we went!! November 2001

how very odd.

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 21:39

We were on a sort of package thingy, DH was supposed to be proposing to me at the Taj Mahal (I had no idea, but it was his dream destination!) except he had really bad Delhi belly and was v ill.
V wierd.
It was just after 9/11 and in India they were really suffering for the lack of US tourists so we were hassled a lot, but I loved it.
I had wanted to just sit on a beach somewhere hot, but I loved it.

Where did you go?

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:47

just a couple of days in Delhi, then to Kathmandu. Did the Langtang trek (amazing) then back to Kathmandu for a few days' rest, on to Pokhora (sp?) to go white water rafting and then the Annapurna trail. Then back to Kathmandu for a few days before flying to Bombay-Malaysia-Australia-Sth America. Away 4 months in all but 1 month in Nepal.

Was just at beginning of all the trouble with the Maoist rebels etc (and after the assassination of the king, I believe) so things were a bit dicey a few times. Pokhora lground to a halt for a day because of a bomb exploding. Trucks and military types everywhere.

So how did he eventually propose, bless him!!?

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 21:53

At home in bed one morning about 2 weeks after we got back, I'd brought him a cup of tea in bed as I left for work before him.
It gave me the travel bug, we went to Australia for 3 weeks 4 months after that and then did Bolivia/Peru (Macchu Picchu trek) just after our wedding. It's a shame that I held off from adventure type holidays for so long, I really enjoyed it when I went.

I am so of your month long stay in Nepal, we had full time jobs so only managed to do 2/3week holidays and fit it all in.

I know what you mean about Nepal starting to get a bit scary, we were escorted back to our hotel by a truck full of armed guards whilst at Chitwan!

I really want to go to Bhutan now, and Tibet.
And Borneo actually........

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:57

so funny, my dh proposed a few weeks after we got back from Mexico ... I was looking tres jolie in my trakkie daks and tank top while stir-frying dinner and screaming at him to come and take over because I wanted to go and watch 24.

And he walked in and proposed.

I was like, two weeks of glorious sunrises, sunsets, beers and hammocks, and me look tanned and lovely in a 'kini - and you propose NOW??

I still want to do so much travel too. But we divide our time btwn Australia and the UK (the old bi-national relationship thing) which doesn't leave us much time or money to go anywhere else. And with 2 small babies and a 3rd on the way ....

Ah well!! at least we did it and have the pashminas/ yak wool to show for it!!

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 21:58

looking tanned, I mean

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 22:06

So your DH is Australian? Fab.
My DH is from Lancashire, so not so exotic!
I can't wait for my DS's to be a bit older and money to be less tight so we can travel a bit farther afield again.
I will definitely be urging my boys to have a gap year as well, so wish I'd done that now.
Aah, those were the days......

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 22:08

no, I am the Aussie, not him!

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 22:13

Really?

Why?
I would sell a kidney to live in Sydney!

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 22:14

Sorry, I should tell you that I live in rainy grey Lancashire so I swooned lots at the outdoorsy lifestyle in OZ.

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 22:16

yes, my hometown. It's heaven. We're moving back there next year. DH has always been keen, we just had to wait for some work things to pan out. Until now we have done 7-9 mths a year in London, rest of year in Sydney. But now with the children .. well, it's time for an easy, sunny life basically.

Come and visit!!

Lizzylou · 30/03/2009 22:22

You are my new Best Friend!!!

Off to bed now to dream of Sydney.......

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 22:25

good night, fellow thread hijacker!

sorry cardigan wearers.

Amandoh · 30/03/2009 22:42

When I know where someone is from I read their posts with that accent so will now read LizzyLou with Corrie voice and LTEC with Rolf voice.

Am I alone in this?

Yes, thought so.

Moving swiftly on...
Cardies? Oh, loads! A few long ones. Grey, black and brown. Then a whole rainbow coloured assortment of little ones. Love them over vest tops.

LetThemEatCake · 30/03/2009 23:14

can I not have a Kylie/ Elle/ Natalie voice??

Like, Aussie, but with the edges blunted by years of international travelling daaaaahling???

where are you from??
