Which beauty products?

I'm 44 and have never really had a beauty routine. I slap a bit of moisturiser on in the morning, usually what ever is cheap and on special offer and some handcream as well.

I really think I ought to be looking at a sort of routine now.

What products would you recommend?

What sort of routine should I get into?

I have noticed that my 'laughter lines' are becomeing quite marked and noticed this morning that at the bottom of my neck there was the beginnings of lines. You can only see them in certain lights but I know they are there.

So what I should be doing to keep this aging at bay?

Watsthestory is this what you use? Which one is the best to buy? Where do you buy yours from?

Agree with Wats.

motherinferior · 14/03/2009 12:08

According to the consultant dermatologist Dr Susan Mayou, sunscreen is the thing you need.

Thanks Wats and Motherinferior.

I have always kept covered up with a hat as I burn easily so I suspect that has helped.

Will hit Boots this week then.

Would you use things like night creams? What is the best thing for cleaning your face, I just wash it with the shower gel, which is usually what ever is on special offer.

Any recomendations for eye creams?

No not at all, thank you for your time.

Stupid question but how do I get samples? We only have a small Boots in our town. Maybe a trip to the city in the week and go to a department store??

Agree with Wats

Friend is a dermatologist and she recommends ROC to her patients, and La Roche Possay Anthelios sunsrceen.

I use them and find them great.

I am the same....need abit of an overhaul in my beauty routine
I always use a factor 15 all year round on my face, currently using Olay, just bought the 7signs one. But in the summer i put a really high sunblock on my face as i seem to get brown patches if i don't cover up.
I need a good eye cream, but never quite sure what i am looking for!
Isn't there something in some creams that you have to be careful of when you go in the sun...?? Is it retinol A or something???
You seem very clued up watsthestory, so i hope you see this as i am thinking of getting some kind of firming cream as i have noticed some droopy lines at the edge of my mouth!!!!! What to do about that (except botox!)

ROC is really good, also the Protect and Perfect is supposed to be very effective. I've just bought the serum and day cream on the recommendation of my Dad who is a dermatologist.

Sun screen is the most important thing, I use a day cream with SPF 15 in all year round, plus a sunscreen if i'm going to be outside. 15 in winter and 25 in summer like wats - although if you go anywhere like Greece then I would think about a total sunblock (40/50).

Go carefully with exfoliation to begin with, choose a gentle product. The Clinique 7-day scrub is good and not too pricy. It says to use it every day but twice a week is fine for my skin.

blossom - Clinique do an anti-gravity firming cream, it's lovely and rich. I use it on those edge of mouth areas!
In terms of eye cream, go and ask around the counters in a department store because different ones do different things. I use one which reduces puffiness and dark circles as well as moisturising because that's what I suffer from, but you may have different problems/concerns!

oooh Watts is here! Quick hijack - what's the best thing for fine lines arounf the lips? I've been using a clarins thing which is okay but greasy. I'm not too bad but want to prevent!

blossomsmine · 14/03/2009 22:49

Thanks for that wts

I hate to admit this but until recently i was using night cream as a day cream, because i ran out and just didn't get round to buying some more I used to be so into creams and beauty stuff years ago but seem to have let it slip lately....just when i need it most!!
