Which beauty products?

I'm 44 and have never really had a beauty routine. I slap a bit of moisturiser on in the morning, usually what ever is cheap and on special offer and some handcream as well.

I really think I ought to be looking at a sort of routine now.

What products would you recommend?

What sort of routine should I get into?

I have noticed that my 'laughter lines' are becomeing quite marked and noticed this morning that at the bottom of my neck there was the beginnings of lines. You can only see them in certain lights but I know they are there.

So what I should be doing to keep this aging at bay?

No I'm not a smoker! I'm not too bad really but I'm 42 so they are just beginning to appear! Will try that Roc stuff then. I tried a sample of Bliss spiff upper lip once which I liked - do you know about that? I have a bliss code from Marie Claire!

Wats my Dad has us all use 40/50 on our faces in certain circumstances but 25 is fine for arms/legs etc. It's only for extreme conditions - ie. sunbathing all day in Greece or similar, and I would also use it when out sailing or skiing because of all the reflected light.

Don't know if I will have the courage to ask for samples

I think I remember seeing Roc at my local Boots. Do I just go to the beauty counter and ask? Or would I be better to go to the city and the department store.

I quite like the idea of pharmaceutical rather than some of these companies that try to blind you with science that doesn't make scence and I definatly wouldn't touch L'Oreal with a barge pole.

Okay. I shall try not to move my lips much then.

blossomsmine · 15/03/2009 20:51

I shall stick to Roc then i think, in future. I have had a lovely facial sunblock from them before. Do i just go to the desk and ask for samples then? I have never done that before either? Do they always have samples behind their counters?? Thanks wats for you really helpful advice by the way Don't go too far away, please, i am sure to have loads more questions lol!

MrsGokWan · 15/03/2009 22:36

Cheer's you are being so patient.

Roc girls? Our Boots has a beaty counter that is about 4 ft long with 'posh' perfumes displayed behind it, with testers on the counter. Will gird my loins and ask though.

I've tried lots of different things over the years and the expensive stuff isn't always the best IME e.g. I started using the Aldi day and night creams after all the publicity had died down and you could actually get it. Think it smells a bit weird but for my skin, is as good as any moisturiser I've used.

I'm a Liz Earle "cleanse and polish" convert, think it's wonderful and also use her cleanser.

Jury out on eye-creams, haven't found anything that works so will keep an eye on this thread.

For lines around neck, frown lines, brow and mouth am using Bio-Oil. I feel like it's making a difference but perhaps that's wishful thinking.

I'm told my face doesn't look "that old" (I'm 46) but my hands really do look much older so I now have handcream by the kitchen, bathroom and toilet sinks and by the bedside and now apply it every opportunity. Not seeing any difference yet.

lilolilmanchester · 17/03/2009 23:00

duh, also use Liz Earl toner is what I meant

blossomsmine · 18/03/2009 13:08

Eye cream is what i could really do with but the choices are so vast it makes me just give up looking! I think though, i might go for a ROC one as the rest of their creams seem good

MrsGokWan · 18/03/2009 13:28

Well went into my local Boots today and approach the sales girl behind the counter explained what I wanted and .................
................................................................................. ..........they didn't have any [roll eyes emoticon]. The only ones they had were the Boots ones. SShe did say that the bigger one in the city has a Roc counter and would have some I could have or try on line.

So I am off for a Google and see what I can come up with.

MrsGok - I sometimes buy from a website called directcosmetics. They offer some good discounts, and often have small travel sizes of things so you could have a look on there and order a few different testers?

MrsGokWan · 18/03/2009 14:52

Thanks Ali, that's very useful to know.
