Please help me I have no idea how to dress for my new body

Am desperately trying to lose the 2 stone I need to get rid of to get to m pre-pregnancy weight and getting nowhere fast.

Anyway, I've got a party to go to on Saturday and have no idea what will suit my new (depressing shape) and keep gravitating to things that would suit the old me.

Can anyone make any suggestions, I now have a fairly sizable chest (which I don't know how to dress) and a horrible, horrible belly.

My legs have held up pretty well, as has my bum as I only tend to put on weight on my tummy, arms and face.

Can anyone suggest anything to wear? It's an engagement party at a golf club, I am so depressed after a days shopping in town, I cannot seem to find anything that will hide my tummy.

I would steer clear of anything that drops from your bust. I have a big bust and look enormous in baggy stuff. Tis much better to celebrate your curves!

fishie · 26/01/2009 20:06

empire line will help. i find v neck more flattering than scoop too, the more straight lines the better.

donnie · 26/01/2009 20:07

I am going to get some control pants!

Ronaldinhio · 26/01/2009 20:08

everyone looks the same in those dresses and that is the genius of them they don't cling to show bumps
my friend is a 16 and looks absolutely great in them as she is an apple after her last child birth
she wears them everywhere now and looks brilliant
have a try on and see!

Drum · 26/01/2009 20:13

Could you link to an example, Ronaldinhio. I am thinking that I need one of those dresses!

Lizzylou · 26/01/2009 20:16

I have big boobs and hips and my middle is wobblier than it ought to be, I do have a not bad pair of legs, sooo tunic dresses and hold you in opaque tights are a dream for me.
I got a fab pair of 60 denier black hold you in tights from Tesco.
Wear with mary janes, do your hair and some nice lippy and smile lots, you will look fab

Ronaldinhio · 26/01/2009 20:21

Ronaldinhio · 26/01/2009 20:35

Lizzylou · 26/01/2009 20:50

I love all of them Ron, I think the last one is my fave.

chancelloroftheexchequers · 26/01/2009 20:52

Thanks ronaldhino. I've tried on the first and looked pregnant in it.

Like the 2nd and 3rd ones, although not sure if number 3 is a bit short.

Nooo, just put on opaques (control ones) and some heels, you said your legs were good, go for it!

chancelloroftheexchequers · 26/01/2009 20:59

I love that one but I think I'm having a bit of an identity crisis and I don't know if things like that are a bit young for me now.

I turned 30 five days before I had DD and the whole age/becoming a mother/getting fat thing has given me a bit of an identity crisis I think.

give over, 25-50 is "I am woman hear me roar" territory.

Lizzylou · 26/01/2009 21:06

I am 35 (almost...GULP 36) and I love those dresses.
I know how hard is it when your body has changed post baby, actually mine was never "all that" anyway, but just try and play to your strengths, you are in your prime!

CHEQUERSmate · 27/01/2009 17:25

Just updating this to say I got some control pants in TK MAXX for £5.99!

Thanks

mrsmaidamess · 27/01/2009 23:12

Hooray!

CHEQUERSmate · 28/01/2009 19:11

Just popped back again to say thanks for all your advice and I have found something that doesn't look hideous on, yeay!!

It's this top which I'm going to wear with jeans plus these shoes

Also bought a decent bra as all I have is hideous nursing bras at the mo.

Thanks again for all your advice

Lizzylou · 28/01/2009 19:15

Gorgeous top, can't get to see the shoes, do you feel good in your new outfit?
Bet you look fab

CHEQUERSmate · 28/01/2009 19:51

Thanks Lizzy, I feel a lot better than I did on Monday!

chocoholic · 28/01/2009 19:57

Lovely clothes. I want the shoes!

I remember going through a similar thing, thinking I needed to rethink my whole wardrobe because of my shape, age, etc etc.
After having many sobbing shopping trips I realised that I was still me after all and went back to the old me - just a bit fatter!!

Hope you have a fab time.
