What's your favourite Mascara??

I'm sick of wasting money on rubbish mascaras. I need a new one this weekend, one that isn't cloggy, not too heavy, (but can be built up in layers for when I'm feeling dramatic) and makes my eyelashes look lustrous, silky and gorgeous. Oh, and won't dry out in the bottle after a couple of weeks (and no, I never pump the wand rapidly thereby introducing drying air bubbles into the bottle). Would love to discover a fab one that's not too expensive. Although will think about an expensive one if needs be.

Thanks!!

Haven't tried extencils - was a definicils girl for years. I guess that the flex is the difference - I certainly get a good curl with it

charleypops · 10/03/2005 15:58

I wonder if I meant Extencils instead of Defencils as I posted yesterday. I probably did. This was really good - I would like something just a little bit fatter this time though - or can you build extencils up (I can't remember)

oh crossed with purple! Hmm - so is defencils by Lancome too?

Don't like the Maybelline pink and green one either. Had success in the past with Clinique, don't know if they still do this but they used to give you the mascara for free if you asked them to give you a make-up demo, may be worth a try.

Where do they sell Bad Gal Lash then? Like the sound of that one.

Marina · 10/03/2005 16:08

Definicils = length and some fatness
Magnificils = full monty sooty-eyed smudgy girl, not for the MIs of the mascara community
Extencils = length only really
Flextencils = length and curly

I think that's right and I definitely think I spend too much time hanging around the Lancome counter.

expatinscotland · 10/03/2005 16:09

Demented you can get Bad Girl lash mascara at most major Boots shops - just ask if there's a BeneFit counter.

dyzzidi · 10/03/2005 16:12

As I wear contacts I use the KissMe mascara it comes off in little tubes with warm water and pressure so no makeup remover needed. It's quite a natual look for everyday use. The sell it on www.missgroovy.co.uk and I would recommend it if you wear contacts.

For evenings etc I use Clinique

hoxtonchick · 10/03/2005 16:13

lancome ones are definitely best but when i'm broke bourgouis are pretty good too.

purpleturtle · 10/03/2005 16:27

What colour mascara do you go for?

I used to wear purple mascara and then i had my colours done and switched to boring brown. Might have to try one of the more outrageous lancome purples next time though.

dyzzidi · 10/03/2005 16:43

My hair is black so I just wear black but am thinking of going for a teal green colour any recomendations!

Demented · 10/03/2005 17:03

Thanks expatinscotland, I'll have a look, think my mascara is well due for replacement.

BubblesDeVere · 10/03/2005 17:10

Maybelline XXL is my favourite at the minute.

BubblesDeVere · 10/03/2005 17:12

Expat, i also used to use that, i also find some of avons astonishing lengths is quite good.

milge · 10/03/2005 17:16

Max Factor 2000 calorie is good, and the new Chanel, Extensils? is my current fave . My friend swears by YSL's, comes in a matching tube to Touche Eclat. Tried Christian Dior and wasn't impressed. Maybelline makes my eyelids itch

Marina · 10/03/2005 17:23

Not enough recent lurking then Cod. What's Hypnose like, anyone?

Enid · 10/03/2005 17:23

I love Christian Dior, can't remember what it is called. I have bought about every make under the sun and the CD one is deffo the best for me. Chanel cloggy and yuck. Clinique (the very light one, simply lashes or something) is good too but I hate the whole 'look' of Clinique so probably wouldn't buy it again.

Enid · 10/03/2005 17:24

meant to say I wear contacts so can't be doing with the lengthening/thickening ones.

Oh, and a good pair of eyelash curlers are the real key!

charleypops · 11/03/2005 13:16

Wow - lots of Lancome fans!

charleypops · 12/03/2005 11:41

Right then I'm off to buy my new mazzy - seeing as I'm bring dp with me, I've decided on a Lancome one - I'lll have a look at Flextencils and Hypnose. Next time I'll try Bad Gal. I'll report back...

Got Flextencils! £19 but not a bad size. Very nice, understated at one coat, glam enough for me at three. Put it on before going out last night and it was still going strong at 4am this morning . Didn't notice that it curled my lashes up though. I think my lashes have straightened out since being pregnant(!), so will have to dig out the old lash curlers after all.
