Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

wow, a lot of gleeful faces in my post there, I note. Who'd've thought blocked tear ducts would induce such mirth? (actually can't end this post without another ; physically incapable of doing so) ()

tortoiseshell · 03/10/2008 12:07

marina - she sounds fantastic. I have problems dressing the bloody lovely Polly Pockets and would get someone else to do it if I could. Sounds like she really knows her own mind! With ds2 (and I wonder if you've found the same with dd) it's just annoying because it's lots of small things, so I feel a bit like a 'paranoid mother' for getting them all checked out, but they seem to be things that are 'just' over the 'check them out' boundary.

Rumblings still very much going on - one of these days I'll write you an update email which I'm sure you will enjoy...we have now moved into the realms of total lunacy but fortunately that is now recognised by some!

L&S - we left the tearducts, and they do seem very much better now so I think it was the right decision.

Cammelia · 03/10/2008 13:32

Polly Pockets dd used to get dh to dress and undress all hers. I refused as I couldn't do them either was too busy.

Girls like to have slaves

Marina · 03/10/2008 13:34

"Girls like to have slaves". You have met my dd, clearly Camm
When my parents asked her to pick up her shoes one day, she rolled her eyes and said in a martyred fashion "Do I have to do everything round here?"
And let's not dwell on the time dh brought her breakfast in and she told him "I didn't order this"

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/10/2008 13:55

Arf @ your dd Marina. Sadly in my house boys and girls like to have slaves.

My ds2 has the odd thumbs Marina - actually he's quite bendy generally, also only learned to ride his bike at 12, spider-like handwriting and 'unique' pencil grip. His speech was quite incomprehensible until he was 3. We have a video of him on holiday that year; he was just turned 3 and the most understandable bit of his speech is 'a pickkkkkeeeeup'. My back suffered for years. His speech problems were ENT related and he ended up with grommits/tonsils and adenoid surgery. Top it off with his OCDness and he's a one-off!

Anxiety levels not lessened and not likely to for a while addied to which my drains are still grumbling - I fear that they need a good rodding!

foxinsocks · 03/10/2008 14:55

my goodness you lot can write a lot on a friday. Don't you know I'm supposed to be napping on the couch and mumsnetting working from home

how funny...you know what, perhaps we inspire little junior school council members because dd also went up for school council. I was so SO proud of her because it's very unlike her to do anything proactive at school but she apparently stood up and said her speech. She came second so wasn't elected but I was so pleased that she did it.

Both mine were subjected to hearing tests - dd because she couldn't hear (but spoke perfectly) and ds because he spoke fast but couldn't pronounce anything. I guess it's always better to check and it puts your mind at ease. Mine were DEVILS in the test. They had to put their hand up when they heard a noise and after about 5 mins, the tester realised they were taking the piss, little charmers but hopefully tortoise, your little one is too young to muck about and you'll get a proper reading. Fingers crossed all is ok.

Nearly the weekend now.....dh is back but because of the reshuffle is now Missing In Action (grr) and sister goes back tomorrow so calm may FINALLY reign in the fox household on Monday!

and lol at oi marina. Made me chuckle.

Hope you all have booze filled relaxing weekends.

Cammelia · 03/10/2008 19:28

Yes, funny re school council incumbents

My dd has been voted onto the Food Committee this term

unknownrebelbang · 03/10/2008 21:03

Oh, I can go to the other extreme ...DS2 has received his first detention, although to be fair, not totally his fault (DS1 says so, and he rarely sticks up for his brother!) Oh hum.

TS, DS3 hardly said a word til he was 3ish, boy has he made up for it since! Good idea to get DS2 checked over all the same.

Sending positive vibes CptnJaneway.

Have a Good weekend everyone.

eemie · 03/10/2008 22:44

In our house the cat likes to have slaves.

Dd had glue ear, grommets at 15 months, multiple infections, speech delay, the lot.

I knew she was getting better at two and a half, the day she toddled in to the kitchen just as I looked into the tumble drier and realised I'd forgotten to run it. My comment was sotto voce and directed into the machine, but then from behind me I heard a little voice say 'Oh bugger Mummy' .

She had a hospital appointment that afternoon. I told them I was no longer worried about her hearing.

Big crisis with Dh today about the house (non) sale - he still wants to hold out for a reasonable price, I'm desperate to sell.

If we let it out, all the work and worry will fall to me and I'm already running close to empty.

If we accept a painfully low price in order to sell it, we'll still be in a good position because prices have started to fall in the area we've moved to as well.

Aargh and aargh again.

And aargh again.

And the puppy has kennel cough (I'm a right little ray of sunshine today).

But dd is fine and bootcamping not bad apart from Friday beer.

Have good weekend all

foxinsocks · 04/10/2008 11:12

all the politicians started somewhere cam ;-)

ever since reading about your cat having slaves eemie, I keep dreaming about having my own, preferably ones that would have answered the phone at 8am this morning when dh phoned to say he thought he'd lost his credit card in Birmingham and could I find the number to call because he is obviously incapable couldn't and then I looked up his card online and found he used it at home since he'd been back and then he thought he had left it in his trousers, but couldn't remember which pair and of COURSE, he has left his clothes spread all over the house and could I check all the pockets....SCREAM.

I'm sure I am turning into Sybil from Fawlty Towers.

Eemie - house decisions are never easy are they. You can only do what feels right! Sorry you are low on reserves. That feeling is too awful isn't it.

Hello all and hello Issy (I remember you flirting with us once!).

I think the recommended exercise advice is 30 mins 3x a week (and it doesn't have to be all in the same chunk) so that sounds fine to me (the non-expert here though!). Maybe you could increase running gradually to 30 mins?

I have read your posts so sorry for not responding as am in bad mood - dh deigned it ok to stay out all of Friday even though he was off to a stag do yesterday, and to seemingly spend at least £140 on one night out (not including the train fare and all booze I'll bet plus curry) which will now put us in the red even though I specifically told him to go easy on how much money he took from our current account . He's back soon but he'd better stay well out of my way (caresses rolling pin).

So happiness - at a slightly low ebb, although on the plus side my body has gone into overdrive this week, resulting in 7lbs lost in 8 weeks (snail-pace but not as bad as it looked last week). I even managed a 4 mile run in under 40 mins , although when I tried 2 days later I could barely run 2.5 miles.

I know it was a bad week but where is WWW? Have I missed something?

What is this 5htp or whatever it is called thing you all talk of?

Eemie - am sending positive vibes for you - I so loathed moving house and making all the relevant decisions in a reasonably good economic climate.

I am now waiting for dh to grace us with his prescence so that I can go out for a stomp walk. Even if it is p*ing down with rain.

Marina · 05/10/2008 14:12

Afternoon all! Welcome back Issy
Moonshine, it is a l-tryptophan supplement designed to boost serotonin levels in the body - a natural way to reduce anxiety and increase happiness levels. It does work very well for a lot of people (Healthspan's Happy Days has the same product in it) but it didn't suit me and I have stopped taking it. I'd prefer to be awake and grumpy than asleep and happy 24/7 IYSWIM. May cause drowsiness, indeed! . Catatonia more like!
WWW is taking a break from posting here right now but I'm sure she'll be back and I know she is lurking (wwwaves).
Foxy, worse things to be than the estimable Sybil (I know, oh, I know, I know, and of course the "Only one watt but plenty of volts" followed by dirrrty laugh).
It sounds like men in the bootcamp slammer this weekend, mine has cooked up a cunning but really not useful plan to make coarse fishing bait with ds. Where, pray? So he has not been on the lam with the joint account, or failed to find his arse with both hands, but....
I had a great day with the dcs yesterday (dh working) and that included a brisk walk with them and their scooters. Water, cream, happiness - check. More exercise needed and (sneaks big confession in at weekend) am away from SW at the moment as our evenings are so packed that even this was turning into an imposition rather than a support)
Enjoy what is left of the weekend everyone and come on in all you skulkers!
