Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Versdesociete, sad to say that to me Seymour means one of two things: Ellen Greene and Rick Moranis belting out Suddenly Seymour in The Little Shop of Horrors; or, even worse, that horrid little plastic man Seymour Bunz, who could lower his pants and moon at the car behind from your parcel shelf
Am ill, stressed and not bootcamping well enough, tut
Water intake should not be a problem as have cystitis
As it lays me pretty low I ought to be at home but in fact have had to come in really as it is part 954 and counting of our computer saga - migration to new platform (one which does not require PhD in programming to maintain), right here, right now.
Ds is more cheerful currently, although I could have done without having to explain how advances in medicine have made it possible for couples living with HIV to have a healthy baby while Desperate Housewives was on downstairs
Have staggered from surgery to pharmacy then in to work but power walking it ain't.
Mine's a cup of cranberry juice with a Cystemme shot and trimethoprim croutons, cheers
Am SURE lots of people are having a better day than I...do hope so.

bundle · 02/10/2008 12:33

oh marina, sorry about the waterworks tis truly not what you need

the pooter stuff sounds horrid, we had a desktop rebuild yesterday (reboot if the light has stopped flashing afte 22 to 35 mins.. ) and things just Haven't Been The Same Since..

bootcamping a joke atm i'm afraid
had book group round - heaps of creamy pasta with mushrooms/spinach, plus baked apples, banoffee ice cream and lashings of cava

have been doing lots of walking and knitting is making me happy (more on that in next series of All In The Mind!)

I refuse to put sunscreen on at this time of year, specially seeing as i've run out and only have night cream

LoveAndSqualor · 02/10/2008 18:56

Ooh, bundle, I have just bought three lovely new balls of wool this very afternoon, and am about to pick up my needles again for the first time since DS pitched up. As soothing as a foot rub and a mug of hot chocolate

Marina, absolute bugger about cystitis - I hate it. Well done for catching it before it morphs into a kidney infection though

Batters, belated happy birthday!

All ok here. Work burden slackening somewhat; have filed a bunch of stuff, now going through proofs. Have been spending as much time as possible tramping about outside with DS in the gorgeous autumn air. V breezy here, and he finds wind hilarious (insert obvious joke here ) so coos and giggles away to himself in the pushchair as the gusts come along; rather endearing of him

Food has, I must confess, been less than bootcampy as a result of sudden work crisis. Am aiming to address that tonight with something in the lentil line. On the plus side, however, have started doing my sit-ups again, and goodness, can I ever feel it

unknownrebelbang · 02/10/2008 20:05

Sympathy Marina and Saggars.

I am feeling very proud of the fact I resisted a cream cake at work today. (although I succumbed yesterday .

Salads and walking aplenty though.

Thank fk it's Friday tomorrow. I have been swearing in RL farrrr too much this week. It's not good.

LoveAndSqualor · 02/10/2008 21:02

ps Vers - I'd have let you call DS Seymour

ureb, plaudits on cream cake avoidance!

CaptainJaneway · 03/10/2008 08:22

Am proud of myself for responding to one of THE MOST stressful weeks I've had in years NOT by throwing myself into a vat of wine, but by walking, having early nights, arranging to see a counsellor about my vile family, eating well and sticking to I/N. And I have an interview today but have made myself have breakfast first. And it's Friday so tonight I will be drinking.

Hope everyone else has had a good week.

tortoiseshell · 03/10/2008 09:02

Saggars - sorry you're stressed. WOrking it off in the gym has to be a good thing though. Hope your stress reduces today.

Marina - sorry you're feeling unwell as well AND had to go into work. Hope you're feeling better today.

bundle - "heaps of creamy pasta with mushrooms/spinach, plus baked apples, banoffee ice cream and lashings of cava" sounds absolutely delicious!

L&S - well done on the situps - I must try and start doing some, but I fear my stomach muscles disappeared forever when ds2 was born!.

Ureb - well done on resisting the cream cake! Do you remember that ad from years ago for cream cakes - 'naughty but nice'. I always think of that (obviously made a BIG impression when I was little!) when I see a cream cake!

Captain Janeway - that all sounds good - sorry you've had a hideous week, but well done for your ways of coping! Hope you have a better week this week.

Yesterday for me;
Food - small baked potato with small spoonful egg mayonnaise, couple small slices of cheese, and a chocolate biscuit .
Water - not enough - instead, too much tea and diet-coke. I MUST try and substitute water for diet-coke, but when I'm trying to eat less, diet-coke is a good substitute I find. Any suggestions? I already keep water in the fridge so it is lovely and cold, but somehow isn't as appealing as the evil diet-coke.
Walking - hardly any - was a day when I was going from one place to another end to end, but I DID take ds2 swimming and managed to swim a little bit myself (until he disgraced himself - all I can say is thank goodness his swim nappy was effective...)
Bedtime - not too bad - 11pm I think, but was out at a meeting until 10 .
Alcohol - none
Creams etc - 0/10. Am going to the Mall later and am going to treat myself to some sort of moisturising cream - certainly for my face as my skin is horribly dry atm, especially under my eyes.
Happiness - not bad - still lots of stresses (you know what I mean marina), and I'm trying VERY hard not to be worried about ds2's speech which is VERY slow - was at the GP for something completely different today, didn't have ds2 with me, but I asked the doctor what she thought, and she has referred him for a hearing test. So fingers crossed there isn't a problem there, but I will be very pleased when he starts chattering away. Not made any better by the 'Should I be worried by how much my child is talking - he never stops' type posts on here, and also at toddler groups etc.'

Marina · 03/10/2008 09:10

Torty, dd was like an Easter Island statue until she was two - just sat there eyeballing us. She is extremely chatty now and it all went whoooomph just after her second birthday. First word, Bruvva, followed by "supreme being" and "sterminate". I think you can guess who was doing the coaching. Tbh a hearing test is a good idea, dd had had ear problems all that time and they could have contributed to her taciturnity.
Good to see you posting captain, have been wondering about you and your week. Will drop you a mail and well done for getting through that lot still standing.
Am feeling better today - although I wonder if this 5-HTP stuff is right for me as I feel very puzzleheaded with it - so marched to work and am now sipping soothing tea. Ds has to combine the dentist with being on the stump for School Council today so he was a little ray of sunshing from the off too. Oh, and dd had a slightly dicky tummy last night. I cannot bear to describe what happened next.
LOTS of water, happiness - a work in progress tbh.

Marina · 03/10/2008 09:10

What are situps, please? I am better at lie-downs, I think

tortoiseshell · 03/10/2008 09:29

Thanks marina - he is chatting a bit, but single words, JUST starting to put 2 words together - but as he's 2.5 I was starting to think I might be negligent if I didn't bring it to their attention - so am glad he will have a hearing test to check things are ok. Doesn't hurt anyway. Just a bit fed up of the 'my child is SO advanced - but don't worry yours will get their...' type comments. Oh well.

Ds2 was up for election for School council too marina - I was so proud of his poster he made - it had a pic of him holding hands with his best friend and another friend who is a girl, so it showed that he 'values friendship with boys and girls', and he wrote underneath 'I am good at maths and reading and spelling but I am BETTER at making choices and being kind'.

He didn't get on, which he was VERY sad about, but is a good life lesson I think.

Hope dd is better this morning - and last night wasn't TOO hideous. xxx

Marina · 03/10/2008 09:45

Ds' USP is that he will pass his classmates' opinions on, even when he does not agree with them
And he could be on a roll as he was on Council last year and they devised the extremely popular Pyjama Day which took place yesterday...I really cannot believe ds2 is 2.5 already . Good luck with the follow-ups. Dd has always ploughed her own little furrow really - we've had several referrals for various, minor things, right from birth. Spina bifida occulta, excessive weight loss in first month (am sure her mother having C Diff caught in hospital had nothing to do with that ), late sitting, late walking, ears ears ears, oppositional thumbs (!), non-standard pencil grip, and NOW she is having 1-1 support for maths too. Pleasingly, she doesn't realise about the maths support being because she is not quite keeping up with everyone else.

Marina · 03/10/2008 09:47

And I meant to say, that ds does not expect to be re-elected either as he assumes people would like a new rep this year. So agreed, a good life lesson. He has illustrated his "My Track Record" slide with a large train...

LoveAndSqualor · 03/10/2008 09:54

Zooming through, but wanted to say, Tshell - I have it on excellent authority (my mother's) that I wouldn't talk At All (apart from saying 'no' ) until I was gone two and a half. Mother convinced I was deaf and dumb. Seems once I started, however, I could not be stopped. Def good call to get the ears checked out though, well done

tortoiseshell · 03/10/2008 09:54

He sounds great! Ds1 took out his disappointment by writing a 'newspaper' with the headline 'Shock that ds1 wasn't made Scool Cancel'. .

Having had ds1 and dd with no problems whatsoever, ds2 seems to have had a string of 'non-things' iyswim - he was referred for blocked tear-ducts, which SEEM to have resolved now - at the last appointment the consultant said 'we can either operate, which will involve a GA, and sticking two metal probes down his eyes, or we can discharge him - up to you.' Then he had an xray for suspected clicky hips, but was fine. Now he's got hearing test, and at some point soon will be referred for a vision test (simply because dd has glasses). He is also the only one to have had a ride in an ambulance after he was sick all over dh and then went floppy. NHS Direct sent emergency ambulance, by half way to the childrens' hospital he was recovered...I think he just wanted a ride!

That's good that your school has the facility to offer 1:1 maths for your dd - and also good that she doesn't realise! What are oppositional thumbs btw?

Snaf · 03/10/2008 09:57

Just marking thread because I can't bear to admit to my bootcamping-uselessness this week.

(Tortoiseshell - if it helps at all, ds didn't say anything intelligible until well past 3 years. I was beginning to get a bit panicky, then suddenly the floodgates opened and he's not stopped since...)

tortoiseshell · 03/10/2008 10:01

L&S and Snaf - thank you, that's really encouraging! I'm not seriously worried, it's more that I don't want to be negligent in not getting something that COULD be a problem checked out iyswim!

Marina · 03/10/2008 10:07

They bend back too far.
She does seem to have some fine motor skills issues - we are not talking generalised hypermobility here. After a rather depressing (but very helpful and professional) convo with her marvellous teacher yesterday, I went away and checked out the dyspraxia spectrum and there are one or two things on there that struck me - dd has always dodged jigsaw puzzles and never really played with Lego. Even now she asks me to dress/undress her dolls/polly pockets, and I think I am going to have to get tough as I think she can do these things, she just finds them tricky. I have never met such an intriguing combination of determined pluck and bone-idleness and it sounds like you have had similar ups and downs with ds2. Dd is also the first person in our house to attend a & e with an open wound after she chinned herself by "jumping but forgetting to move my feet".
LOL at School Cancel, bless him. Any connection to the Bored of Governors?
Sorry to hear the same old same old is still rumbling on btw

Marina · 03/10/2008 10:07

Am also LOLing at snaf and L&S ever having been in a situation with nothing much to say for themselves

Snaf · 03/10/2008 10:09

Oi

Marina · 03/10/2008 10:15

Why bring foxinsocks into this snaf

bundle · 03/10/2008 10:21

great re: knitting L&S! I have found a psychologist to interview on one of my programmes about the therapeutic benefits of handcrafts (on things like depression, chronic pain etc)

marina, friend's child got dyspraxia dx last yr, but he was much more "classic" (not able to ride bike, lots of writing issues etc) and now getting help - does help too that his mum's a teacher at his school!

anyone else freezing today? does that help to burn more cals? (have just had my friday treat - latte and bacon sarnie) dd2 forgot her library book so that's another traipse up a giant hill and i may try to get into the rothko exhib today..

Marina · 03/10/2008 10:40

L&S, I missed that. Hook up with me and bundy on the Mumsknitters forum in Ravelry, you know you want to!

TheDuchessOfNork · 03/10/2008 10:58

Hello all.

Quite good from me this week. I have already walked the dog for an hour and been up and down the cellar steps with huge boxes of pre-school crap stuff, which I've just gleefully dumped in the new Chairs car and waved goodbye too.

And now I'm going swimming with DD2.

TheDuchessOfNork · 03/10/2008 11:04

Oh look, I'm so gleeful that I used 'too' instead of 'to'!

LoveAndSqualor · 03/10/2008 11:10

Ooh, marina, link to mumsknitters, please!

Bundle, yes, am absolutely freeeeeeezing (in fact, am going to have to buy some fingerless gloves for computering (I gather that's what the technical folk call it ) because my hands get so cooooold in the winter months!

and tshell - snap again - DS has the tearducts thing too - am currently dithering over metal-probes-in-eyes option (why doesn't it appeal? can't think ). Reckon I'll go for the doing-nothing-and-hoping-it'll-clear-up option (why deviate from a winning formula? )
